I DARE YOU - LISA
[A/N: Thank you to jameloraine for requesting. I hope you like what I came up with!]
"So tell me," asked Lisa's mother, holding a cup of tea. "How did you end up with my daughter?"
I took a deep breath, fixed my posture on the sofa, and looked at her with a bright smile. "It all started with a dare," I replied.
"A dare?" Mrs Manoban asked, tilting her head.
I nodded and told her how Lisa and I turned our fake relationship into a real one.
~Five years ago~
It was our last class, and we had just received our Math test scores. As always, my score was barely enough for me to pass. I looked over to my friend's paper and saw his excellent score -- it wasn't anything new as Minho had always been passionate about the subject.
"What score did you get?" asked Minho, trying to take a peek at my result.
I quickly hid my paper, but Minho's eyes were faster, and when he saw my score, a huge grin formed on his face. "It looks like you're the one doing the dare I set for you," he exclaimed, a little too loud. The other students looked at us.
I rolled my eyes, smacking his head. I didn't say anything to him as we promised to do our dare, no matter how crazy it might be. Minho nudged me, and I looked at him -- he was wiggling his eyebrows while pointing at Lisa with his eyes, "you can't back out now," he whispered.
I looked in the direction he was pointing -- Lalisa Manoban, the transfer student from Thailand. It was only her fourth month in our school, and we hadn't talked to each other yet. The only times I ever heard her voice was when she introduced herself on the first day and when she did presentations.
"Do I have to do it today?" I asked, looking at Minho. I was not ready to talk to Lisa since I could get awkward around new people.
Minho nodded, "of course!" he answered and leaned closer to whisper, "But remember," he looked around. "You can't fall in love with her. It was just a dare," he added. The dare that Minho gave me sounded cruel, but I didn't care, as it was just a test for him to see if I had moved on from my last girlfriend. I pushed him away and leaned on my seat, huffing.
Half an hour later, the class ended, and students started to walk out of the classroom. I waited for the right moment, and when Lisa was packing her bag, I walked to her seat and cleared my throat.
"Oh, hi there," Lisa greeted me when she saw me. "You are Y/n, right?" she asked, and I nodded. I watched her put her books one by one in her bag awkwardly, and after she finished packing, I cleared my throat again.
"Hey, um... I know this is random, but..." I scratched my nape, trying to come up with words to say. Lisa put her bag on and waited for me to continue -- I tried to think of places she might like, but in the end, I chose the place I went to with my ex when we first started dating. "Do you wanna go to the amusement park? I mean, it's alright if you don't want to, heh."
I looked at Lisa, waiting for her answer. After a solid minute, she smiled, "I was planning on going to the cinema with Jennie and Chaeyoung later, but sure! I will go with you," she nodded.
A breath of relief escaped my mouth as I smiled at her, "thank God," I exhaled. "So um..." I looked outside the classroom, seeing Minho leaning on the wall while giving me thumbs up.
"Yes?" asked Lisa, following my eyes. When she saw Minho, the latter quickly looked away, pretending to admire the floor.
"Uh, anyway, let's go," I said, trying to ignore Minho as I offered my hand to Lisa. She looked at me with a smile and then at my hand before taking it. We walked out of the classroom and purposely past Minho, kicking his shin before walking faster out of the school.
I took Lisa to my car, and we got in it. I drove to the amusement park, which took me almost an hour to reach, and once we were there, I started taking Lisa to the rides I used to go to with my ex. We spent around four hours there. The sky was darkening when we got to my car.
"I had a lot of fun today," Lisa said. I looked at her and smiled -- I was surprised to hear her since I thought she didn't like any of the rides we went to today as Lisa's expressions were difficult to tell if she was enjoying it or wishing she could leave soon as possible.
"I'm happy to hear that," I replied.
There was no denying it. I was enjoying the time I spent with Lisa too. It was something that I wasn't expecting when I decided to take on Minho's stupid dare.
We got in my car, and I looked at her, "let me drive you home," I offered.
"Ah, you don't have to do that. Dropping me off at the school would do," Lisa looked at me and shook her head, refusing my offer.
"I insist," I replied.
After a while, she finally agreed and told me where she lived. I drove there, and Lisa and I talked along the ride, starting from the times we had at the amusement park to childhood stories. She eventually fell asleep after a while -- I never expected to get so close to Lisa within a day, and I certainly never thought I would fall for her. Two hours later, we arrived at her house.
"Well, we are here," I looked at Lisa, smiling at the sight of her sleeping. She continued to sleep, and I tried to call her again, "Hey, Lisa, wake up."
I shook her body gently, and not long after that, she finally woke up. Lisa looked at me, still half-asleep, taking her seatbelt off afterwards, "thanks for the ride, Y/n," she said sleepily and opened the passenger door.
"Wait," I called before she could get off my car. Lisa looked at me with a smile, "do you want to go out again tomorrow?" I asked hopefully.
She gave it a thought, nodding not long after. "Yeah, sure. I would love to."
I smiled, "It's a promise then."
Lisa nodded and got off my car before walking toward her front door -- I watched her quietly, and when she finally entered her house, I drove away.
~The next day~
The next day, we went to the N Seoul Tower, a place I hadn't visited in a while.
"It's beautiful," Lisa said, admiring the view from the observatory. I watched her quietly while smiling. I didn't have the chance to look at her up close before, and now that I had it, I couldn't help but fall deeper in love with her despite only going out for the second time today.
"Hey, I've been wondering," I started, and she hummed before looking at me.
"About what?" she replied.
I walked closer to her, "don't you have a boyfriend?" the question that I wanted to ask so much was finally out of my mind, and I never felt more relieved.
Lisa didn't answer for a while, and I was worried I might offend her since she kept staring at me. But when she finally answered, I sighed in relief.
"I don't have a boyfriend. Why do you ask?" Lisa tilted her head. "Are you interested?"
I froze and stared at her, flustered by her sudden confidence. "I..." I tried to talk but found myself unable to.
Lisa giggled and shook her head, gently punching my shoulder, "I was joking. You don't have to act so shocked," she exclaimed. I might not be the best at reading people's expressions, but I could tell that she was being serious about asking whether I was interested or not.
"No!" She looked at me with wide eyes when I replied. "I mean," I looked everywhere but her eyes, "I would love to be your boyfriend," I finally looked at her, hoping she wouldn't find me weird. I knew it was our second day going out like this, but I wanted to be closer to Lisa.
Lisa took a deep breath, "are you serious?" she asked.
I smiled and nodded before walking closer, taking her hands. "I am."
She stared at me, not saying anything. After a while, she giggled. "In that case," she stood on tiptoe and pecked my lips. "It is officially our first day as a couple."
I never thought I would be this happy to be accepted by a girl, yet here I am.
Lisa POV
Four months passed since the day Y/n confessed to me -- well, he didn't say he liked me or anything. It was more like an out-of-the-blue situation, but either way, I was happy.
"Hey, Jennie wanted to know if you would be joining us for the group dates she had planned for today," asked Chaeyoung, walking toward my table. I looked at her, shaking my head while smiling.
"No, sorry. Y/n and I are going out today," I replied.
Chaeyoung nodded and crossed her arms, "Oh, right," she looked at me, sitting on my table, "are you sure he loves you, though?" she asked. I looked at her, tilting my head.
"What do you mean by that?"
She shrugged and leaned in to talk in a quieter voice, "I mean, no offence, but I heard that it was just a dare," Chaeyoung said.
"Huh?"
Chaeyoung rolled her eyes and stood up, walking beside me before sitting on the empty seat beside me. "Y/n and Minho had dares for each other, and they decided who would do their dare based on their Math test scores."
I thought about it for a while, looking at the whiteboard and then at Chaeyoung, "so, Y/n lost, and he had to do the dare given by Minho?"
"Yes!" Chaeyoung nodded.
I sighed, resting my head on the table -- I couldn't believe myself. I thought Y/n would go out with me because it was his own will, but I was wrong. I lifted my head and looked at Chaeyoung, "I will go with you guys," I said. If Y/n can play around with my feelings, I didn't have any reasons to stay either.
Later that day, I went to the cafe where Jennie was waiting with her boyfriend and two of his friends. When they saw Chaeyoung and me approaching, they waved, and we walked toward them.
"So, this is Lisa?" one of the boys asked. I looked at him and nodded.
"Yup, that's me," I replied and sat beside Jennie.
The boy smiled, "I'm Juyeon," he introduced himself, and I bowed to him. "Jennie was right. You are prettier up front," he exclaimed, and I blushed.
"You are handsome too, Juyeon," I returned the compliment, and he smiled.
Author POV
Y/n waited for Lisa, looking around for almost half an hour, but she didn't show up. He looked at the time on his watch, sighing when he realised that they were late for their first destination of the day.
"Oh, Y/n!" Y/n looked in the direction of the voice and saw Nayeon. She walked toward Y/n, "were you waiting for Lisa?" she asked once they were close enough.
"Yeah. Have you seen Lisa?" Y/n nodded, hoping Nayeon might've seen Lisa somewhere.
Nayeon nodded, crossing her arms, "I heard from Jennie that they were going on a group date," Y/n looked at Nayeon with wide eyes when he heard the mention of a group date. Lisa was in a relationship with me. Why would she still go? That was what Y/n thought at that moment.
"Do you know where?" Y/n asked, looking at Nayeon. The latter nodded, giving Y/n the name of the cafe Lisa and her friends went to, and he didn't waste any time as he quickly got in his car and drove there.
Once there, Y/n entered the cafe, walking around trying to find Lisa. After five minutes, he found her sitting with her friends while talking to the boys.
Y/n walked toward them while clenching his fists.
"Lisa?" Y/n sternly called when he was right behind her. The whole table went dead silent when his voice rang out.
Lisa slowly turned around, seeing Y/n looking at her with serious eyes. "Y/n," she muttered. He gently grabbed Lisa's wrist and pulled her out of the cafe.
"What are you doing?" asked Y/n once they were outside.
"Jennie was introducing me to her friend," she replied.
Y/n raised an eyebrow and looked around, "and?" he laid his eyes on Lisa.
"And what?"
Y/n sighed and crossed his arms, "Lisa, I'm your boyfriend, am I not?" he asked, and Lisa frowned.
"You don't get to call yourself my boyfriend. You lied to me," she retorted.
"I lied? What makes you think that, Lisa?"
Lisa groaned and rolled her eyes, "don't act as if you didn't know what you did, Y/n."
It was confusing for Y/n -- he didn't understand anything Lisa was trying to say.
"I knew it was just a dare, Y/n. You didn't love me, did you? It was all part of your elaborate act," Lisa exclaimed, gaining the passerby's attention. Y/n sighed, shaking his head.
"I wouldn't last this long with you if I don't love you, would I?"
"You are lying," Lisa shook her head, denying what Y/n said.
He was too tired to argue, so he just gave up. Y/n took Lisa's hand and kissed it before looking at her, "It's up to you to believe me, Lisa. I won't force you to stay in this relationship, so it is up to you if you want to end it."
Y/n released her hand and walked away, leaving Lisa standing outside the cafe. She wanted to say something, but Y/n was too fast, and just like that, he disappeared.
***
That night, Y/n was sitting on the hood of his car while stargazing. He was at the place where Y/n took Lisa during one of their first few dates. He sat there alone until Lisa showed up.
"Hey," Lisa called out. Y/n looked at her, not saying a word before looking at the night sky again. Lisa sighed, walking toward the car, "Hey," she called again, this time softer.
There were no replies for a few seconds. "I thought you were on a date with Jennie's friend?" Y/n finally opened his mouth as he looked at her. "What happened?" he added.
Lisa sighed, shaking her head, "I'm sorry," she wrapped her arms around Y/n's waist as she said it.
"Why are you apologising? You did nothing wrong," Y/n responded, not looking at Lisa.
"I was scared that you were just playing around with my feelings," Lisa started and tightened her hug, "I thought you weren't serious."
Y/n gently wriggled out of Lisa's hug and cupped her cheeks, "It was true that it started as a dare, Lisa. But when I said I wanted to be your boyfriend," he kissed her forehead, "I mean it."
Lisa looked at him and smiled softly, "so you do love me?"
Y/n nodded, squishing her cheeks gently, "yes, silly. I love you," he replied.
"I love you too, Y/n."
~Present Day~
"So, that's pretty much it," I finished narrating and smiled at Mrs Manoban.
She raised her eyebrows and looked at Lisa, sitting next to her, and then back at me. "That's it? That's the story of how you guys started dating?" she asked.
I chuckled, shrugging, "Well, yeah? Why?"
"I don't know... I was expecting something like a Cinderella love story, I guess?" Mrs Manoban replied, and I chuckled.
"But the important thing is," Lisa stood up and walked toward me, sitting beside me. "We loved each other," I took her hand, wrapping it in mine, "and now, Y/n wanted your blessing to take my hand in marriage."
I took a deep breath and waited for her response. Mrs Manoban and I stared at each other for a while before she finally smiled and nodded.
"You have my blessing."
