Chapter Four: A Close Call

"So, how was it?" Gabby asked softly with a smile. She was laying on the couch with a blanket covering half her face. Jaeyde smiled.

"Gabby...when I tell you it was so perfect...oh my God...it was perfect."

Gabby sat up. She was interested now. "Do tell..."

"Well we had dinner on the pier...just us two...no other people walking around or anything. It was kind of romantic."

"On the pier? Wow. That is romantic. He went all out."

"I know, right?"

"Did y'all share a kiss after the date?"

"Mhm." Jaeyde replied, her cheeks turning a beautiful bright red. "It was very sweet. He was a very different man tonight than before."

"Really? How so?"

"He was more of a gentleman tonight instead of the I-want to-do-you Daemon I met prior to..."

Gabby nodded. She remembered what Jaeyde told her about Daemon. "Maybe you guys are realizing you have something more than just sexual chemistry."

"Maybe..." Jaeyde replied, smiling a little. It felt good to know that she and Daemon could actually go out and have fun without making love.

"Well...I'm going to crash here tonight if you don't mind."

"Of course you can. You're more than welcome. Plus, I haven't seen your behind in a minute. We need to catch up."

"Indeed we do, Jae." Gabby said with a yawn and smiled. "See you in the morning."

"See you in the morning." Jaeyde replied softly with a smile, turned on her heels and went to her bedroom.

Jaeyde grabbed all the things she needed to wash her face and take a shower and went into the bathroom. After doing her nightly routine, she went back into her bedroom, grabbed her brush and brushed her hair up into a bun. She secured her bun with a scrunchie and placed a scarf on her head before climbing into bed and pulling the blankets up over her torso. Her cell phone buzzed on the nightstand. She smiled as she leaned over and looked at the caller id. She picked her phone up off the dresser and answered it.

"Hey..."

"Hey, were you sleeping?"

"Not yet I just got in the bed..."

"Oh, good I'm glad I didn't wake you up. I just wanted to make sure you didn't give me the wrong number." Daemon replied jokingly with a smile as he climbed into bed and pulled the blankets up over his torso.

"You really think I would do something like that to you?"

"Hey I wouldn't blame you if you did. You could think I'm a serial killer or something, which I'm not, but still." he replied. She giggled softly.

"Okay, point taken."

"You can't be too careful these days. People are crazy out there."

"Right."

"So...what are your plans for tomorrow?"

"Gabby and I are going to hang out. You know, a girls day and whatnot..."

"Oh okay. Sounds fun."

"Yeah. We haven't seen each other in a while so it'll be good for us."

"Mhm..."

"And what about you?"

"Just work. We're almost done filming. We just need to put the finishing touches on it..."

"Oh, that's good. I can't wait to see it."

"I can't wait for you to see it either. It's going to be great."

After talking on the phone with Daemon for about an hour or two, Jaeyde yawned and rubbed her eyes. She was beginning to feel sleepy. She yawned again before speaking.

"Daemon..."

"Hmm...?"

"I don't think I can keep my eyes open any longer."

"You're getting sleepy, Jae?"

"Mhm...But I still want to talk to you..."

"Okay. We can talk until you fall asleep."

The next morning, Jaeyde woke up with her cell phone in her hand. She picked it up and sighed when she saw Daemon had hung up. She hadn't expected him to be on the phone when she woke up, but still. She stretched and yawned before tossing the blankets off of her and getting out of bed. She decided she would eat something before getting dressed. Her growling stomach wouldn't allow her to do anything until it was satisfied.

The smell of pancakes, eggs, and turkey bacon wafted in the air as Jaeyde descended down the stairs. Her mouth watered and her stomach growled furiously. It smelled so good. Gabby must be making breakfast.

"Good morning, sleepyhead." Gabby said with a smile when she saw Jaeyde walk in.

"Good morning. It smells so good in here."

"Thanks. I thought I'd make breakfast before we leave." she said as she placed the pancake she just finished cooking onto Jaeyde's plate.

"Well, I'm glad you did."

Gabby chuckled. "I'm done here, so we can eat now."

"Okay." Jaeyde replied as she helped Gabby take their plates into the dining area.

Once they were done eating, Gabby and Jaeyde decided it was time to get dressed and head out. Two malls and ten shopping bags later, Jaeyde's feet were screaming for help. That's what she gets for wearing the wrong shoes.

"Gabs hold on. I need to sit down. My feet are killing me."

"Oh, mine too."

"Look, there are some chairs over there."

"Okay." Jaeyde replied as they headed over to the chairs and sat down. Jaeyde's feet began to feel a little better as well as Gabby's.

"Remind me never to wear these shoes again when we go shopping." She mumbled as she made small circles with her ankle to try and relieve some of the pain.

"Ditto."

As they were sitting there, Jaeyde looked to her left and saw someone she never thought she'd see in a million years. She gasped and looked away before they could make eye contact. Gabby noticed something was wrong with Jaeyde. She looked as if she saw a ghost.

"I think we should go now..."

"What's wrong, Jae?"

"He's here."

"Who? Daemon?"

"No. My ex. Anthony. He's here. I just saw him."

"Oh shoot..."

"I don't feel like dealing with him, so can we...?"

"Yeah, sure." Gabby mumbled as they stood up to leave. They grabbed their bags and were on their way.

That was a close call. Jaeyde didn't feel like dealing with Anthony right now. Not ever.

The weekend went by so fast for Jaeyde. Before she knew it, It was Monday and she was back at work again. She yawned and placed her arms out in front of her, stretching out her tired limbs before going back to typing up a few things her boss needed from her. She'd done a good job on that article about Daemon. Her boss loved it. She was sure that everyone else would love it too when it hits newsstands everywhere.

A knock at the door caused Jaeyde to look up. If it's Kelly, she wasn't in the mood for her nosiness at this point.

"Hey, Jae."

Jaeyde smiled, a little relieved.

"Hey, Joan..." Thank goodness it wasn't Kelly.

"Mr. Macklemore wants those papers done by 3:00 instead of 1:00."

"Oh, good. That gives me plenty of time now."

"Yup."

"You know, I'm glad it's you delivering this message and not Kelly."

Joan laughed a little. "I'll bet you are."

There was a knock at the door. Joan answered it.

"Yes?"

"Delivery for a Miss Jaeyde Wiese..."

"I'll take those. Thank you."

"You're welcome." Kevin, the delivery boy, replied and left. Joan closed the door with her free hand and walked over to Jaeyde's desk, handing her a bouquet of fresh roses.

"Oh my God...who sent those?" Jaeyde wondered aloud. They were beautiful.

"I don't know...wait there's a card..." Joan replied, grabbing it and flipping it over. "Saw these and thought of you. I hope you like them. Love, Daemon. Wait, Daemon. As in, Daemon Blackheart? That Daemon?"

"Yes, that Daemon." Jaeyde replied, snatching the card from her.

"That must've been some interview y'all had."

"I guess so..." She replied softly, sniffing the roses. She smiled. Daemon was so sweet.

"Are you going to call him?"

"Yup. Later."

"Better yet, you should just tell him in person."

"I will. Bye Joan." Jaeyde mumbled softly. She couldn't risk Joan becoming like Kelly.

"Hey! Okay, Okay, I'm going! I'm not like Kelly, I swear!" Joan said as she opened the door and walked out, closing the door behind her. Jaeyde shook her head and laughed softly.
