Chapter 6 - Cutting to the Chase
The day arrived for the new students of UA to start school. Izuku had slipped some supplies from a department store in the next town over, and was going over everything again to make sure he had what he needed. His sack wasn't the best for storing things, but his supplies fit. Paper, Pens, Bandages, and Colored Pencils (a bit of an oversight) were all accounted for. He was pretty sure that was all he needed. But a bigger question was presented to him. What was he going to do with Eri? He couldn't leave her all day at home, but he also couldn't have her be seen at school. But he would rather take chances with the teachers than with any villains hanging about still in his neighborhood. It still wasn't a good idea, but he decided to think about it on the way.
Sharanga was trying to stay still again. But as usual, he was shifting around. But this time, he noticed something. The reason Izuku's mechanical body parts couldn't use a quirk, despite the fact that he made quirk friendly augmentations, was that the motivators were decayed. So Sharanga set about replacing them stealthily. They needed DNA from the host, so it took some skin from Izuku's back and scalp to refill the motivators. It worked, on the body. Sharanga couldn't do the arm, it was in sight of everyone. But with the side active again, Sharanga had more space, so it was a bit less twitchy. Izuku was very grateful for that. So was Eri, who didn't like getting jostled while sitting on Izuku's shoulders.
It took about 40 minutes to get to the school on foot. But Izuku was still very early. He found a map, and followed it to Class 1A, where he ended up. Instead he found class 3D. Eri tried, still with him. They ended up in Class 2G. It continued like that for over 20 minutes, and Izuku walked into the wrong class a total of 7 times before he found 1A. But he found it at long last. Annoyed, he went inside and sat down in the back, to get situated. And to figure out something to do with Eri. But he didn't find anything. The classroom was barren, and Eri didn't want to hide with Sharanga in the ground, it was uncomfortable to stay like that for long. And then other students started filing in.
A very energetic yellow haired boy came in, with a somehow more energetic pink girl behind him, talking shrilly. Then the Pomeranian lookalike entered, and put his feet up. After a few more people entered, the rude blue haired boy entered, and started shouting at the Pomeranian for putting his feet on the desk. Izuku caught that his name was Tenya Iida, and that he was from a rich school.
Then of course Iida retargeted him after seeing him, again.
"You! The distracting boy from the exam! How did you even make it into this prestigious school? And your uniform is dirty as well! Do you not take care of your possessions? Or do you just live in filth?" He shouted, not taking a breath, somehow, while waving his arms very stiffly. He didn't notice Eri, who had started crying again. But Izuku noticed. Before Iida could get another words out, Izuku had used his crystal hands to shove him across the room. He had had about enough of him.
"Can you lay off? You have done nothing but belittle me on sight both times I have seen you! Maybe that Pomeranian lookalike has a good point. Clearly there's a pole up your ass, or at least something making you bossy and annoying! I was trying to relax a bit before class, but no, you had to come and ruin that! And you've made my sister cry, too! You did the same thing at the exam! Do you not have a heart, or is it as mechanical as your elbows appear to be?" He had more to say, as everyone in class could tell, but he stopped, and sat back down. "We are here to learn, and you are clearly not the instructor, so shut up and take a seat lime the rest of us." He finished in a more level tone. Iida was shocked into silence for a moment. So was the rest of the class.
The Pomeranian lookalike was about to inquire about Eri, but a fat caterpillar entered first, shocking everyone again.
"What's that thing?" Was the overwhelming response.
"That's him. Eraserhead. Be careful." Sharanga whispered to Izuku, making a tiny tendril in his ear, out of sight.
Sure enough, Eraserhead emerged for the sleeping bag, which the "caterpillar" was revealed to be, and tossed out a heap of gum uniforms.
"Put those on and meet me outside." He said, and he left.
Izuku took his uniform, and waited. Everyone else left the room, and he used Sharanga to change quickly, and get outside first with Eri, to avoid having to enter the locker rooms and show off his various scars.
Eraserhead raised an eyebrow, seeing Izuku appear oddly fast with a small child, from the wrong direction. But he decided not to ask about most of that, for the time being. The kid, however...
"You. What's with the brat?" He said, dryly and unamused.
Izuku shot up straight, and tried to think of an explanation.
"Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit... I didn't think this through at all did I? Oh no oh no oh no..."
Eri answered for him, however.
"Big brother is watching me today. I homeschooled, but mommy and daddy are at work. He couldn't leave me at home."
Izuku sighed internally. Eri had the perfect lie.
Eraserhead raised an eyebrow, but made no comment.
"Fine. Stay off to the side and don't get in the way." He said after a moment, already annoyed with these problem children.
Eri stood by Izuku as he stood around, waiting for his class. A duel haired boy with heterochromia arrived first, with a girl with a massive ponytail close behind. The rest of the class arrived soon after. A brunette with a blush raised her hand instantly.
"Mr..."
"Aizawa." Eraserhead said.
"What are we doing out here, Mr. Aizawa? What about orientation?"
"This is a high class school, and we teachers have a certain level of freedom over how we teach. Ceremonies like orientation are pointless, and waste time. Instead, we are doing something useful, and assessing your potential. Bakugo. You scored highest on the exam. What was your junior high school softball throw?" Aizawa answered.
"77 meters." The Pomeranian answered.
"Bakugo is the angry one... Gonna remember that." Izuku thought.
"Try with your quirk. Here." Aizawa tossed a softball. "Just don't leave that circle."
Bakugo stood in the circle, and readied himself. Then he tossed the ball with a massive explosion, accompanied by him shouting "die!"
"Die...?" Most of the class thought.
It landed out of sight. "769 meters." Aizawa said.
"Wow!" The brunette exclaimed.
"This looks fun! We get to use our quirks as much as we want!" The pink person cheered.
"Fun huh? How about this. Whoever comes in last will be judged to have no potential and be expelled." Aizawa said, smiling cryptically.
"What? But that isn't fair!" The brunette said, scared. "We just got here!"
"Nothing in life is fair. Get used to it. If unfairness puts you off, give up now. You won't get anywhere in life if you can't work around it." Izuku said, a hint of anger in his voice. The class clammed up again, before the ponytail girl spoke up. "Think of natural disaters, or random villain attacks. We have to be out best as heros to counter those, and they happen on a whim. There is nothing fair about those things, we have to combat the unfairness."
"At least some of these kids have rational thinking." Aizawa thought, internally pleased.
"Ehem. With that done, I will be accessing you in 8 different physical trials to determine your potential, and add in my own gauge for the non-physical quirks here. Now, we will start with a 50 meter sprint. Kaminari, Asui, get up here." Aizama started, beginning the trails.
Izuku did well enough. On the 50 meter sprint, he got a time of 3 seconds, a fair bit slower than Iida, and just slightly faster than Bakugo.
On the long jump, he used the hands on his feet to propel himself forward, but they were mostly for life in jumps, and he barely cleared the sandbox.
For seated toe touches, he was hopeless. Sharanga limited his flexibility extremely.
For grip strength, he shattered the matching by using 2 crystal hands, and Sharanga hidden underneath them. Aizawa gave him a score of 1000kg, the machine's cap.
Situps were ok. Sharanga aided his core strength, but he didn't really shine.
Side to side jumps he got one of the higher scores, by oscillating with 3 crystal hands firing tiny bursts.
Pushups were also great. His upper body was a lot stronger than his core.
And finally the ball throw came. Bakugo was exempt, as he did one already. Izuku stacked all 4 crystal hands on his mechanical arm, facing in a different pattern than the one from the entrance exam. With the strongest propelling shot he could make, combined with his mechanical arm's strength, he threw the ball just under 1200 meters.
"1200 meters?" Several of his classmates exclaimed, annoyingly.
"We're you at the entrance exam? He was the guy that blasted the Zero Pointer in one hit! Those hands are really strong!" The yellow haired boy said, still surprised anyways.
The last people to throw went, and Aizawa presented the results.
1.) Todoroki Shoto
2.) Yaoyorozu Momo
3.) Bakugo Katsuki
4.) Tokoyami Fumikage
5.) Shoji Mezo
6.) Iida Tenya

18.) Aoyama Yuga
19.) Koda Koji
20.) Minoru Mineta
Upon viewing the results, a purple haired midget started bawling.
"You were actually a little better, but your personality is not becoming of a hero. Don't think I missed you peeking on the girls at least once per trial." Aizawa said. "Pack your stuff and get out of here."
Mineta ran away crying. Several girls voiced their appreciation of Aizawa quietly to themselves. Izuku nodded as well.
"Good. Filthy scum like that would creep Eri out. And it's so vile. Even that Bakugo's infinite well of rage is better than a pervert. I bet his reason to be a hero is sick and shallow and well.
"Class dismissed for today. Go get ready for your next class." Aizawa said, dryly as always. The class turned to go about the rest of the day.
