8. All You Need Is Love

Chapter Eight: All You Need Is Love

"Nothing you can sing that can't be sung. Nothing you can say, but you can learn." - Lennon & McCartney

The dinner with Audrey's family was a success. There was still one thing that was plaguing Paul's mind, where was Audrey's mother. He really wanted to meet her, but she wasn't at the dinner. Paul thought that she must have been busy with work or something. But Paul decided to let it go. There will be a time that he will meet Audrey's mother.

Paul smiled about his date later today with Audrey, he was hoping to ask her to be his girlfriend. After all her father did like Paul and was accepting of their soon-to-be relationship.

Paul was so lost in his thoughts about Audrey that he didn't realise that he had played the wrong chord. Everyone in the studio stopped and looked at Paul.

"What was the problem mate?" John asked as he stopped strumming.

"Nothing, just a slip of my fingers." Paul nervously laughed.

No one questioned it, because no one but Paul played the bass. Paul remembered when he had taken on the challenge of playing the bass, Stuart had walked out on them at Germany and there was and no one wanted to take up the task of playing the bass. So Paul borrowed Stuart's bass and played in the concerts. Paul thought it was only going to be a temporary placement, but that soon changed and Paul became the proper bass player of The Beatles.

"Right, we are going to have to take this from bar 17!" One of the stage directors said.

They were putting on a small concert in London. Naturally it was sold out. This made the boys even more nervous to put on a good show. Then in a few months they would by flying out to Europe to do a small tour to promote their next album that was coming out just before Christmas. It was going to be a mission writing and recording an album while they are on the road.

Audrey was going to come to the concert then Paul was going to take her out to dinner just after the concert. To say that Paul was excited for tonight would be an understatement. He was ecstatic! He couldn't possibly wait! For the concert he really just wanted to say: "'Ello London! Thanks for comin'! Bye!" But Paul will have to pull through for the concert. It wouldn't be all that bad. After all Audrey is going to be backstage watching the concert for herself.

They now had a short break and had to be back at the theatre at five for a final run through  before they go on. This was when he was going to pick up Audrey.

Paul went home and had a shower, the clock was showing 2:30. He knew that if he got changed fast enough he could get to the school where Audrey worked. So Paul quickly got changed and started to choose his clothes. He got into what he was going to where to the date. Which was a pair of black dress pants, with a matching blazer and a blue button-down shirt. As he wasn't wearing a tie Paul left the top three buttons undone. With a quick comb of his hair Paul soon left his flat and hoped into his car and drove off to the school.

**

Paul soon pulled up to a school. The sign was big, but it was an old school so the sign was faded. Paul had to stress his eyes to see 'St Mary's Catholic School'. He saw people walking out of the classrooms as it hit three. Paul smiled and hoped out of the car and walked to the main desk.

"Excuse me." Paul said to the office lady.

"Yes?" She replied.

"I would like to know what classroom Audrey Gilbert is in." Paul asked.

"And many I ask who is asking." The office lady said in a very professional manner.

"I'm a very good friend of hers." Paul said cautiously.

"Oh yes," the office lady said thoughtfully. "She is in the class 12a."

"12a," Paul mumbled to himself. "I'll be going then."

Paul walked down many of the hallways and he had finally reached her class. It was one of the class that faced the playground behind the school.

"Knock, knock." Paul said as he knocked on the door.

"Come in." Audrey replied thinking it was a parent and not Paul. "Oh hey Paul!" She exclaimed as she saw Paul in the corner of her eye.

"Audrey." Paul greeted her. "Are you ready for tonight?" Paul asked.

"Yeah I just have to finish off some marking and then we can go." Audrey said. "If you're hungry they're probably having lunch in the staff room."

"Do ya mind if I went?" Paul asked as he realised that he was very hungry.

"No, not at all!" Audrey exclaimed. "I'm busy here." She said gesturing towards a pile of papers. "Take a left at the start of the hall and you will see the staff room on your right."

Paul nodded and walked out if the door, closing it gently behind him. It was funny. To some extent Audrey had already met his co-workers and now he was going to meet hers. He is going to be in a room full of teachers. The very thing he feared when he was at school. Rounding the corner Pau saw 'staff room' written on the door. Paul smiled and walked toward the door and knocked. Paul heard stomping fee before someone opens the door.

"Your Paul." The person said as she opened the door. Unfortunately for Paul, he had just met one of Audrey's Beatlemanic friends.

"Yeah I am." Paul said in a bored tone. "And you are..."

"Lucy," Lucy replied. "I saw a photo of yo hand Audrey in a magazine a few days ago." Lucy said thoughtfully. "I'm huge fan." Lucy admitted shamelessly.

"Are you going to let the poor lad in?"

After a lengthy conversation with most of the teachers, Paul said his farewells and left to find Audrey. He followed the same path that he took to the staff room. He walked into the already open door.

"Had a good time?" Audrey asked as she was writing something on the board for the students tomorrow.

"I had a ball." Paul laughed. "This girl called Lucy was continuously obsessing over the band and everything." Paul said rather thoughtfully.

"Yeah she is a major fan." Audrey laughed. "She dragged me to see A Hard Days Night."

"Have you really seen that!" Paul exclaimed.

"Yeah I thought it was rather cute." Audrey smiled. "With you chasing after your 'grandfather' and all."

"Very funny." Paul laughed. "Are you ready to go?" Paul asked and instantly changing the subject.

"Yeah just let me finish up on the board." Audrey replied.

Paul nodded. He was beyond nervous to go out tonight. He doesn't think that he could handle the rejection that could happen later in the night. Maybe he will ask the lads for some help before the concert. Yeah that what he will do.
