2. I'm Only Sleeping
Chapter Two: I'm Only Sleeping
"When I wake up early in the morning. Lift my head, I'm still yawning."
-Lennon & McCartney
Paul had soon finished recording Yesterday. Since he didn't want to anyone to know about he stayed behind and came in on days off to finish the song. Paul smiled as he listened to the finished copy. He liked George's idea to add in a string quartet. This was the first time that Paul had added in other instruments than percussion, guitar, bass and vocals. It was a whole new experience, he had some help from George and the members in the quartet to compose the ideal part for the strings.
Paul felt proud as he saw Brian nodding his head in approval as well as George. For the first time in a while Paul felt happy. Music always made him happy; whether it was playing, creating or even listening Paul had always felt a connection to music. I was a way that he could release his true feelings and not feel guilty about anything. It was a way to channel all of his emotions, rather than letting ascend to unimaginable heights.
"I like this a lot." Brian said as he placed a hand on Paul's shoulder. "Where did you get inspiration for a song like this?" Brian asked Paul.
"Just the past really." Paul said as he looked down at his feet.
"We could run this by the lads and see if they would like to release this as a single." Brian said to Paul as he looked over to Brian.
"I'll mention it tonight." Paul exclaimed excitedly. "We are all going to John's for a few drinks." Paul explained as he saw the look of confusion on Brian and George's face.
"Okay then Paul. See you later." Brian said as he walked out of the booth and started to clean up a bit before he walked out if the door.
"I'm going to go know George." Paul said. "Do you what me to help with anything?"
"No, Paul." George said as he turned everything off. "You've worked hard in the past few weeks."
"If your sure-"
"Completely."
"Right I will be off then." Paul said as he grabbed his coat from behind the chair. "Thank you for you help George!" Paul called out as he walked away.
"That's quite alright!" George called back.
Paul was soon in the car and driving all the way to John's house. Every week they would all meet up at someone's house and have a few drinks and talk about music. Normally when they were at John's (if they were up in Liverpool) they would have to wait for Julian to go to bed before they could start drinking. Sure when Julian was awake they had a few beers but nothing heavy like they would do at a bar.
Paul rounded another corner and ended up at John's place. He saw that Ringo was already there as his car was parked out on the curb. Paul pulled into the driveway and parked his car.
Paul walked out and walked to the front door before he knocked on the door twice. As he waited for someone to open the door Paul placed his hands in his pockets and started to drum a rhythm.
Finally after what felt like ages someone opened the door.
"Paul!" Ringo called as he opened the door.
"Hey mate." Paul replied as he took his hands out of his pockets.
Ringo stepped aside to allow Paul to step inside. Ringo locked and closed the door before he walked into the living room, leaving Paul alone. Paul hung up his coat on the coat rack and kicks off his shoes. He padded down the hallway and into the living room were John and Ringo were sitting with a few beers.
"Hey mate!" John called out to Paul as he walked into the room. At the same time John had lifted up his arms and some of his beer feel out of his cup and into the rug.
"John!" Paul replied with the same enthusiasm as John had when he had greeted him.
Paul took both a seat on the couch and filled a cup up with beer before he took a sip and got comfortable on the seat.
It was half an hour before George finally arrived to John's house. George apologised as he was with Pattie, an had almost forgotten if Pattie hadn't reminded him.
"I've bee working on something." Paul slurred after having his third drink.
"Really?!" John said as he took another drink from his glass.
"Yeah really." Paul replied coolly.
"What's it," Ringo said before burping. "Called." Ringo finished.
"Yesterday." Paul said with a nod of his head.
John sat and thought for a while before he clicked and realised what the song was. "Yesterday," John started.
"Love was such an easy game to play." All four of them finished together as they chuckled.
"You know the tune came to me in a dream." Paul said honestly.
"You're kidding?" George asked Paul.
"Yeah," Paul laughed. "When I first came up with the idea I thought that I had stolen someone's idea!" Paul exclaimed.
The night continued on a similar fashion with the boys constantly laughing about jokes and little childhood memories. It was well after eleven before they all had fallen asleep on the couches at John's place.

Morning rolled around as Paul woke up confused for where he was. He heard the snoring of the other lads and realised that he was at John's. Paul felt like there was a marching band in his head. He groaned as he turned his head on the couch and saw light streaming in through the curtains. Though Paul didn't have anything to do today, but he didn't want to be in the same house as a hungover John. He had learnt in Germany what he was like with a hangover.
Paul sighed as he got up off the couch just as Ringo was getting up. Ringo also groaned as put a arm over his eyes.
"I'm just heading out." Paul said as he grabbed his keys from the coffee table. Ringo just nodded and winced with the movement of his head.
Paul stumbled through the hallway and grabbed his coat off the rack. He shrugged it onto his shoulders and walked to his car. He was glad that George had also parked on the curb. It just made it easier for him to drive out and not have to ask anyone to move their cars.
Paul smiled as he rolled down the street. The thought of his being able to go straight home and into bed made him extremely happy. He was disappointed that he didn't get to talk to the lads about releasing Yesterday as an single. Paul did realise that he couldn't possibly had a decent answer out of the lads because they were all drinking and that's not the time to talk about band decisions. That is a conversation that has to be done when they are all sober and serious about music.
Paul pulled into his driveway and walked straight into his flat. Locking the door behind him Paul kicked of his shoes, chucked his jacket on the couch and his keys on a table by the door. Paul needed to relax so he had turned on the kettle and prepared a cup of herbal tea for himself. After the kettle had boiled he made his tea and walked up the stairs. He placed his cup of tea on the side table before he climbed into bed and quickly fell back asleep.

A/N: Here is chapter two! The fact that Paul thought he had already heard the tune of Yesterday is true! (Shots for my dad for that)! I've also decided try and name each chapter after a Beatles song. I hope that my chapters resemble as much as the 60s that it can!
