Forgotten(Ashley)

You loved Ashley. You really did, but the last two months he'd been working nonstop. Your second anniversary was coming up though and you hoped he'd make it up to you. So you tried to ignore the fact that you hadn't seen him in days and focus on finding the perfect gift for him.
"Ash? You here?" No response. You sighed, "Of course not. You never are any more." You set your bag down and pulled out your phone.
Will you be back soon? You sent the text and waited.
Idk. Maybe nine or so. You sighed again. You made dinner for yourself and then cleaned the kitchen before doing laundry and taking a bath. It was almost ten by the time you decided to call it a day and go to bed.
At ten to one in the morning you woke up to Ashley getting undressed and crawling into bed. He laid down and put an arm around you. Without missing a beat you moved his arm off you and got up. Taking your pillow you left the room and went downstairs to the guest room. You locked the door behind you to ensure that Ashley didn't come after you.
Surprisingly he was still there when you got up the next morning. It was your anniversary. You'd been preparing for weeks. After a quick shower you dressed and did your makeup before heading to the kitchen for coffee and toast. Ashley was shirtless, leaning against the counter p, drinking a cup of coffee. His hair was still damp from his shower and you were finding it very hard to stay mad at him. So he'd been late. Again. It was okay. Today was your anniversary. He was probably planning a surprise for you or something else, something romantic.
"Morning." I kissed him on the cheek and poured yourself a cup of coffee.
"Morning. Why did you come down here when I got back last night?"
"I was sorta pissed at you, but I'm over it now. I got go. Work. But I'll see you tonight? For dinner? Or something, right?"
"Uh. . . maybe. I don't know how long I'll be working, but I'll try to be home earlier today." You nodded and gave him another kiss, this time on the lips before grabbing your things and going to work. All day you waited for a text or a call. Just some indication that he hadn't forgotten. At five when you got out of work you went home, hoping for him to be there ready to surprise you. Or at least have left you note. There was nothing. You sighed and got your gift for him out and set it on the table. You sat and texted him.
What time will you be home? He responded almost immediately.
Probably not for another few hours. You couldn't believe it. He'd forgotten. You waited for three hours before you were too upset not to do something about it. You drove to the studio and went in. Ashley, Andy, Jinxx, Jake and CC were sitting around the room on various pieces of furniture with sheets of paper strewn everywhere. Ashley was laughing and seemed to be enjoying himself.
"Oh. Hey Y/N. What are you doing here?" You were on the verge of tears and so mad you were barely containing it.
"Do you even remember what day it is?!" You practically scream at him. You clenched your fists in the sleeves of your sweater and tried not to cry.
"Wednesday?" He asked. You saw the other guys cringe, knowing he had just fucked up.
"NO! You-you asshole! You've barely been around at all the last two months and I thought 'maybe he'll make it up to me.' but no. You can't even be bother to remember one important day. And for the record my birthday is the eighteenth not the twenty first!" You were crying now. "We're through!"
"Y/N, I'm sorry about your birthday. That's not even kind of ok, but what's so important about today?"
"Absolutely nothing." You wiped the tears off your face and stormed out.
"You are so screwed." Andy said after you left. Ashley glared at him.
"Don't you think I know that?" He snapped. "What is today's date?"
"The eighth." And then he realized what he'd forgotten.
"Oh my god. I have to go." He grabbed his jacket and left. You weren't home when he got there. Sitting on the table was a box wrapped in blue paper. He sighed. "Goddamnit." He pulled his phone out and called Y/BF/N.
"Yello?"
"Y/BF/N have you seen Y/N?" He asked. Y/BF/N sighed.
"Yeah. She's here, but she really, really doesn't want to see you. You fucked up big time." Then she hung up. He sighed. Getting you back would require something drastic. Something he'd been thinking about for awhile now.
The next morning you went to work and tried to forget about the events from the day before. Work went like it always did and you were ready to crash when you headed to Y/BF/N's house. When you got there Ashley was standing in the living room. You tried to walk past him, but he stopped you.
"Y/N. . . I'm sorry I forgot our anniversary and I'm sorry I screwed up your birthday. I'm sorry I've been working so much, but I can't lose you. I know I'm not good at this whole relationship thing, but I'm trying. And I'll try harder from now on. So. . ." He got down on one knee and held out an open jewelry box with a beautiful ring in it.
"You proposing will just magically fix everything? Two months, Ashley! You can't really expect marriage to be the answer to all of our problems."
"I can't lose you."
"Really? Because I think you're a bit too late. Why are you even still trying? You didn't care enough  to try while we were still together." He was getting pissed. This was not going the way he'd expected.
"I know that. I promise to try harder. I promise to be there for you."
"Why?" You asked. He sighed and stood up.
"Because I love you, goddamnit. And I'm trying to fix my mistakes. I'm not perfect, okay? I make mistakes and I forget dates. Loving someone means taking the good and the bad. Love is sacrifice. And I know you've made a lot of sacrifices for me. It's my turn to make sacrifices for you. I'm sorry for everything that happened and I know I don't deserve a second chance, but will you give me one?" He held out the ring again. You were silent for a few minutes as you thought through everything he'd said. He had made some good points and you believed in second chances.
"Y/N?" He asked when you didn't respond. You smiled.
"Yes. I'll marry you." He grinned and put the ring on your finger before wrapping his arms around you and kissing you.
"I'm so sorry."
"People make mistakes."
"Now I need food and I'm guessing you do too." You nodded in confirmation. "So dinner and then," he wiggled his eyebrows, "Desert." You giggled and kissed him again.
"Sounds like a plan, Mr. Purdy."
"I love Soon-to-be Mrs. Purdy."
"I love you too. For some godforsaken reason." His mistakes weren't forgotten, but eventually they would be. After all he was right. Loving someone means taking the good and the bad. Love is not a feeling or an emotion but an action. Them before you. Giving up things you loved for someone else. And it's hard and not always fun. But my god is it worth it.

Hope it lives up to your expectation, Starelf555!
