Chapter 2
A black and white blur swerves down the snow covered streets. Piloting this motorcycle was Gotham City's famous Dark Knight vigilante known as Batman. Completely decked out in a black leathered armored bat suit.
Murmurs were heard around the room, they sounded excited seeing Batman.
"Who in Merlin is that?" A pure blood student asked, confused at all the commotion when this man dressed as a bat appeared on the screen.
A muggle born classmate gave him a look, "That's Batman! He's the one who protects his city and works with a powerful hero team called the Justice League. Majority of them have powers they use to save the world."
The pure bloods around the students couldn't help but scoff at the outlandish idea. No way was anyone out there more powerful than them.
His stiff body and deep scowl across his face makes an intimidating figure, but laying behind his rough exterior would show a frightening amount of worry and anxiousness.
Glimpsing down at his tracking monitor was blinking beacon that had him scrunch up his eyebrows under the cowl. Every blink taunted him, mocked him on whether his daughter would be alright or not.
Batman pursed his lips, "Almost there sweetheart, just a few more minutes. Everything's going to be just fine." The last part was to reassure himself more than anything. Silently cursing, he revs the bike and shoots off toward the beacon.
Jayden, who was still being comforted in Dick's arms, looked at Bruce on screen. She didn't know how to feel right now and it was kind of pissing her off. Baby bat did say that out of B's children she was considered the emotional one. 'Which by the way Damian, fuck you. That's why Tim's my favorite.'
There was a time when she wouldn't have given two shits about what happened with bruce during this time of her life. But the more she watched, the more it was beginning to hurt.
Back with Ra's, he walks towards the window with his back facing his follower, arms clasped behind him. "Where is the detective now?"
"He's on his way sir...though there's no guarantee he'll make it there on time."
Ra's was unhappy with the news, if anything he looked resigned. This wasn't what he wanted at all. If Batman couldn't make it, then the girls life was at the hands of fate, whether the outcomes were good or bad. "I see..."
Tim raised a brow and stared at Jayden. Feeling his gaze she turned, locking eyes with him, sending a narrowed eye look. "Why're you lookin at me like that? Dickhead make him stop."
Dick being the oldest decided to mess around by teasing his younger brother. "Timmy, are you jealous?" He asked, with a large teasing grin.
"N-no! Why on earth would I be jealous?!" Tim sputtered, flailing his arms around. Both Jayden and Damian snorted, or at least Jayden did. Damian successfully covered his snort because he was allergic to feelings. To be fair they all were emotional constipated shits.
Dick playfully rolled his eyes as his hand glided through Jayden's hair. "Oh I don't know, because Ra's seems more concerned with Jayden's well being than he is yours nowadays?"
Tim crossed his arms, glaring at Dick as he scoffed. "Well excuse me for being curious! The man took my spleen in case you've all forgotten! My SPLEEN!."
What??? He took his SPLEEN?! Their life sounds terrifying! Majority of the hall shared their collective thought.
"I mean Tim-tam does have a point. But hey as long as he ain't obsessing over me I'm all good. Don't worry replacement, he's all yours." Jayden has this smug look on her face and Tim kinda wants to punch it really hard. It's the least he could do after everything she's done to him.
"Unless he starts acting upon his creepy pedophilic behavior, then we're gonna have a problem. I'll castrate him just for you since he still has your spleen." Jayden say this with a sweet sickly smile, it caused those around to flinch at her statement. Even Dick who tensed with a nervous laugh.
Okay his craving to deck her in the face has decreased. Only a little bit. He tends to forget that Jayden likes to act like she doesn't give a shit, but when it comes to her family she'll do whatever it takes regardless of the consequences. Apparently she's the only one that has the right to make us suffer, Bruce more than anyone.
Batman gritted his teeth, already at max speed plowing through the streets. Knowing the Joker more than likely put his paws on Jayden made him want to rush to the destination more than he was, but he hit max speed awhile ago. Fortunately the location was close by and he prayed to any deity out there for Jayden to make it out okay.
The warehouse door opens showing the joker walking out adjusting his coat. "Okay kiddo, I gotta go." He grinned, more teeth than anything and thoroughly pleased with himself and his 'accomplishments'. "It's been fun alright," Joker looks back inside the warehouse, staring at the battered bloody form of Jayden, debating whether she would answer or not.
"Well maybe a smidge more fun for me than you. I'm just guessing since your being awfully quiet. Anyway, be a good girl, finish your homework, and be in bed by 9. And Hey!" He pauses, throwing his hood over his head and smirks at her, "tell the big man I said... hello." His voice was low and he lets out a cackle as he shuts the door closed.
Throughout the hall, everyone could feel their neck hairs rise and shivers running down their spine hearing the sinister tone of voice. The children who knew of the outside world already had an idea just how dangerous this man was, and that's without power. The same couldn't be said for the pure bloods, they were confused that this muggle who had no powers whatsoever had made them feel as if they were talking to their Lord Voldemort.
Regulus and Sirius clenched their fists, eyes hardening seeing their older sister's younger form in such a state. Their eyes strayed towards their father, who blanched at the scene. They hoped he felt like shit because this was heartbreaking to witness. It could have been prevented if he had brought her into their family from the beginning, but what's done is done.
Making sure the joker was completely out of sight Jayden opens her eyes and flips her body onto her back. Hissing in agonizing pain, she gathers any strength she has left to act quickly. The only thought was getting the hell outta here and finding Batman. Jayden's flexibility allowed her to roll backwards landing on her knees and pulled her arms under each leg.
With her hands now placed in front, she was free to move. Everything hurt, it feels like a damn truck hit her and didn't finish the job. She couldn't even open one of her eyes, regardless of the pain she couldn't waste time. Taking a moment to concentrate and gather her thoughts was difficult, getting hit with a crowbar on the head repeatedly left her dazed, a concussion most likely.
Doesn't matter now, she needs to get to the door and leave. So she lifts herself up and stumbles. Her body felt heavy, knees shaking from trying to maintain her body weight. The second she took a step towards the door her body dropped, face planting on the familiar dirty floor.
The sound of her face meeting the ground made them wince. Students who were familiar with pain brought upon their family slightly winced but they were sure that younger Jayden couldn't feel as much since she was reeling in the previous beating from that clown.
'No, not like this. I refuse to let that freak of nature win. Like hell am I bowing to anyone, let alone that son of bitch who never should have been born in the first place!' Lifting her head, her eyes narrowed at the door holding a hard determined look in her eyes.
The Black family felt a bit of pride hearing those words because it's true, for the most part. Blacks never bow to anyone. Those who sided with Voldemort had no right to speak since they were bowing before him.
"I still stand by that." Jayden sits up straight, eyes narrowing at the screen. "Also, I'm a bit unnerved that we can hear my thoughts. Whatever happened to fucking privacy man." She crosses her arm, defining her biceps which had a few older students gawking. Jayden was fine as hell and she knew it. Regulus and Sirius' groups were of course included and they received harsh smacks to their head by said brothers.
Dick and Tim laughed at her misery, they know they'll never get another chance because any other time she'd either beat their asses or shoot at them till they got hit. "Can't do much about it now little wing. Just hope that Lady Hecate doesn't included everything." Dick squeezes her shoulder in attempt to comfort her.
Tim grins and give a thumbs up, "Dick's right, just hope for the best. Not like it'll do much with your current shitty lucky." He teases because karma's a bitch.
"Fuck you replacement." Jayden flips him off before returning her attention towards the screen.
Jayden's vision was hazy, she was trying her best in concentrating on the door, but it seemed so far away. It looked like it was miles away the longer she looked at it. She panted and shook her head softly, deciding to drag her broken body. The more she dragged herself, the longer the bloody trail followed.
It seemed like forever until Jayden finally reached the door. It was a struggle to get up since her body still felt heavy, nonetheless she managed it anyway. 'Fucking finally.' She smiled as her hand shakily grabbed the handle and pulled.
"She made it!"
"Of course she did, she was Robin."
"Thank goodness she'll be alright!"
These statements made the Bat family flinch, Jayden more so for obvious reasons. No point in correcting the wixen, they'll see it for themselves in a few moments. She could feel those piercing gazes on her being, staring at a few adult she could see they understood the statements coming from the students were incorrect.
Jayden also knew her wizard brothers were staring at her hoping to confirm, but she avoided locking eyes. This was fucked. Having all these strangers witnessing, especially children made her angry. Children shouldn't have the need to see this, but there was something telling her that the table full of snakes had shitty lives too.
Something to investigate during a break because if there were students being abused in this community, she'll do whatever it takes to change that. Even if it means burning the abusers at the stake, they should know all about that right?
Her bloody smile faded in an instant. Pulling again and again and it...it wouldn't budge.
It was locked.
She panted heavily and let go of the handle and fell against the wall since it was obviously useless. There was no way she was getting out of here now. Jayden closed her eyes and released a shaky breath. 'Fuck. All I want is to go home and cry. Maybe apologize for going after Joker alone. Mmm definitely ask Alfred for some of his hot chocolate or tea. Hell I'll even take Dickie's stupid octopus hug and cuddle with Bruce. Just let me go...home.'
BANG! Everyone jumped at the sudden noise, looking around only to see Jayden's head on the table with her arms wrapped around it and body trembling whether it was from anger or her crying they didn't know. Her adopted brothers looked stricken with guilt, grief, and anger. The youngest with more grace than any pure blood in the room raked his fingers through her hair in hopes to cheer her up.
Many looked at her with pity, those who were cruel didn't care and believed she deserved it for being a pathetic squib. Children who had more feelings than most had tears in their eyes because Jayden was a child on the screen who wanted to go home alive.
Sad to say waiting it out was the only option for this fucked up situation. That is if they even knew where she was in the first place, even so she held on to hope with a firm grasp.
Eyes still closed she focused on her breathing and clutched her side when the pain increased. Though she does end up hearing this annoying beeping sound. She didn't particularly care at the moment. Her body hurt okay it's fucking valid, so she shrugged it off.
A few seconds passed when her eyes snapped wide open and it struck her hard and bad. 'Bomb. It's a damn bomb!' She scanned around the room and there it was on her right side. A timed bomb that counted down, which had 9 seconds left.
The ones who knew what a bomb was gasped with a look of terror on their face. Though the less knowledgeable individuals looked on in confusion.
"Why're you all gasping? What even is that?" Some random wizard asked.
"That's a bomb. To keep it simple it's something that causes large explosions. Being that close to one only means the worst."
The Bat family hated this community so much, they didn't even know what a bomb was! Absolutely ridiculous. Man so many of these guys wouldn't last very long in the real world, considering they weren't allowed to use magic in front of people.
Her heart raced as she stared at it. Devastation and horror smacked her right on her mangled face. She couldn't couldn't breathe at first, about to break out into a panic attack, but forced herself to reign it in and relaxed her body. 'No way am I leaving here alive. They probably don't even know I'm here so saving me is out of the question. Well I suppose its part of the job as Robin...knowing and forcefully preparing for your own possible death HA!' She internally laughed, patiently waiting for her incoming death.
The timer in the silent room was so loud and grew louder as she sat there numb. It echoed in her ears with each beep. All hope she tightly grasped onto slipped through her fingers, completely diminishing when her body hit the ground. She closed her eyes, fully accepting her incoming death after reading the timer at 2 seconds left.
'Goodbye B...'
It was silent in the hall, no one spoke, you couldn't even hear anyone's breathing. Just there in a room watching a young girl about to die, a child who accepts death like an old friend.
Said girl now a woman still had her head down on the table, but if you listen very carefully, there was a choked sobbing sound. It was only noticeable if you really pay attention to her. No one blames her though, she's reliving a severe traumatic event that has her up at night.
Around the corner Batman makes a sharp turn, Jayden's tracker is a few seconds away. His eyes under the covers scanned the warehouse that sat on top of the hill while driving his bike. Everything seemed fine, his body still tense, muscles that were screaming at him from the amount of strain he's been pushing out of himself.
2...
Batman revs his bike and shoots up the hill, snarling aloud, practically baring his teeth. He all but abandons the bike mid air, cape opening to glide him safely to the ground. The second his feet touched the floor he shoots off towards the building.
1...
'I'm here sweetheart!' He cries out in his thoughts.
BOOM!
"JAYDEN NOO!" He screamed with agonizing fear and panic in his voice.
'Damnit!' Jayden gritted her teeth as she flinched from hearing Bruce, green flashing in the corner of her eyes. She noticed Damian's hand tensing while running through her hair. Jayden couldn't see Dick or Tim, but there was no doubt they were affected as well.
Batman shielded his face with his armored cape to protect himself from the blast and pieces of flying rubble on fire.
A large explosion set off in the warehouse. The warehouse exploded. The disgusting building his daughter was located in, who was waiting for her father to save her exploded. 'My baby...I failed'.
He failed his little girl.
The only thing he could hear was his heart beat, thundering in his ear. A bit dazed, but focused enough to begin his search. Looking for any possible signs of a body, but there was nothing. He threw pieces of all sizes around, lifting crumbled walls around until he found her.
There she was, her battered torn up figure. Batman gently picked Jayden's fragile body up into his arms, cradling her limp body as if she were precious treasure. Jayden's body was covered in frightening burns, large amounts of blood, and gashes of all sizes everywhere. He could only assume that her suit was already torn up before the explosion and that pissed him off more. Didn't even want to think of the possibilities of that happening.
Dick was really going through it right now. Guilt eating away at him from the way he treated Jay when she was younger. They were able to fix that before he left on a mission. He still remembers how he wasn't even informed of her death when he was off planet. 'Bruce should've just the joker die when I killed him.' There were times where he wanted to do it again, but he knew Bruce would go ballistic.
All Tim feels is grief, as a child he worshipped Jayden during her time as Robin, a little puppy crush some could say. But seeing her on top of buildings or flying through the air with that charming smile of hers made his depressing childhood amazingly happy. Viewing this tragedy made him relive those saddening feelings. He knew his brothers were more than ready to deal with the problem when they get back, and he's definitely sure Jayden's biological brothers will be more than happy to help deal with the trash. 'Bruce can get on board or respectfully fuck off. Piece of shit has messed with this family long enough. I'm done.'
Damian has always had a hard time dealing with feelings, the one he welcomes the most is anger. He knew of Jayden during their times in League, it was why he could get along with her. Sure when he found out she was Redhood he provoked her with rude remarks and insults, but that doesn't mean he wants to see her in the state the joker left her in. They were better now, back to being actual siblings like they were in the league before she left. 'Father has let that pathetic imbecile live for far too long. It's time to deal with the situation at hand. It shall occur one way or another.'
Knowing that he's holding his baby in his arms doesn't stop him from tightening his grip on her. The more he took in her battered appearance made his eyes tear up. He knew it was too late... Jayden most likely died thinking no one was coming for her. And that had his heart aching as it dropped to his stomach. Those tears finally spilled from under his cowl, falling rapidly.
The only sounds in the area were the crackling flames lighting the two figures and the heartbreaking sobs of a grieving father for his daughter.
He knows he has no right. It was his fault, there was no denying that. All of this was preventable. Orion envied this Batman, Jayden's father. It was clear to anyone that this man loved Jayden enough to let out his emotions. Or at least that's what those surprised faces he was seeing on the students who knew of Batman were telling him. He doesn't expect his daughter to forgive him let alone be on speaking terms, but if there was even a small possibility of talking to her, he'll take it. Walburga can go to hell for all he cares.
