Kael's in his room again. The feeling of being isolated weighing ever so heavily on him. He clutches to his chest and tries not to burst out in tears.

He has no idea what he could have possibly done wrong to deserve such hostile treatment from Santa and Edward. Infact, if not for the love Mrs. Claus shows to him, he would be insane by now.

He wipes away the tears that managed to escape from his eyes. He takes in a reassuring breath. He replaces the pain with the delusion of things being better. “Maybe it's a test” he thought to himself.

He clears his throat and stables himself as he sits at the edge of his bed. Suddenly, there's a subtle knock on the door.

“ Come in,” he sniffled.

The door opens and a big, hefty, reindeer, man like being holding a candy cane spear walks in. He bends down to enter as to avoid his antlers from getting stuck.

Kael just stares at him.

“ Someone's here to see you,” He said with his gruff voice.

“ Uh, okay?,” Kael replied softly.

The being grunts and walks out.

“ Oh, sorry! Excuse me,” A feminine voice spoke softly outside the door.

Kael tilts his head to see who it might be. Then, there's a subtle clanking of shoes as the individual approaches.

A girl with blonde, silky hair, almond shaped eyes as blue as the ocean, a small pointed nose, thin matching eyebrows, a slightly chiseled oval face, and her skin was fair and spotless. She wore a red flowing hostess gown with white intricate lines. Her shoes were glass and winter themed:

And she has a small ice crown on her head. After all, she is the princess of snow.

Layla!,” Kael called her name with happiness and with a tone of relief. It's been ages since he last saw the only other person he treated him like he was some disease.

“ Whoa!,” She exclaimed. “  Your hugs have gotten tighter since we last saw,” She giggled.

“ Oh, I'm so sorry,” Kael apologized. “ I shouldn't have touched the future queen of ice like that,” He said with remorse as he looked down, avoiding her gaze.

“ Oh, stop it!,” She waved off dismissiv “ No matter my title, you'll always be my best friend,” She cupped his cheeks and reassured him. “ And that means free hugs and touching for life!,” she said and hugged him tightly.

Kael hugged her back and enjoyed the warm feeling of love and acceptance he felt at that moment.

Kael let her go and they smiled at each other. With her hand in his, he led her to the bed where they sat and prepared for the catching up of a life time.

“What are you doing here?” Kael asked, his tone cheerful. “And how’s the queen training going?” His face lit up with curiosity.

Layla smiled and sat down beside him on the bed. “Well, as you know, the crowning ceremony is coming up fast. Since Edward and I will be crowned on the same day, I thought I’d come practice the ceremony with you beforehand.”

Kael nodded, his expression thoughtful.

“Oh, don’t even get me started,” Layla groaned, rolling her eyes. “It’s been the most stressful—and boring—training of my life.”

“ How can a training that took over..like 10 years be boring?,” Kael asked with a confused face.

“ Well, there was the reading of gigantic books about being a royal queen, then there was the book on ice powers, then I had to read about the history about the other royal's before me”...

“ Whoa! Those are a lot of books!,” Kael exclaimed.

“ Ugh! If you think the books were enough, you should have seen the quizzes...I had to learn so much!,” She said dramatically which made him chuckle softly.

“ But then...I guess it started getting a little interesting,” she said.

“ A little?,” Kael smirked.

“ I mean, yeah, there thought me how to make ice, make snow, dissolve it, make an ice storm, choke someone with an icicle-”

“ -what?,” Kael asked in slight horror.

“ Impale my enemies”

“ Oh my goodness!”

“ Give frostbite that kills”

Kael stares at her with an agape mouth.

“ And so on and so forth,” She concluded.

Kael raises an eyebrow- his mouth still open.

“ So, let's talk about you,” she held his hands. “ How's being a toymaker been for you?,” She asked as she leaned in and payed close attention to him.

She noticed the uncomfortable shift in his expression. Her smile faded and worry set in.

“ What's wrong?, she asked with concern.

“ Uh,” he chuckled softly as he tried holding back his tears. “ It's a bit different than we thought,” he said. “ But I'm glad your dreams are unfolding just the way you wanted it to be,” he said genuinely. “ But for me.... I guess it might take more time?

“ Oh, my sweet boy. I'm sure everything will work out just fine,” She consoled.

“ I don't know if it will though. I'm Santa doesn't even look at my direction. I think something's wrong with me”

“ Wrong with you? Wrong with you!!? Honey, there is nothing wrong with you! You are spectacular. You're.... inspirational?

“ Really?,” Kael tilts his head and raises an eyebrow with a blank face.
