13 - Collocation
"What do you mean?"
His words baffled you, there seems to be a deeper mystery than what you've expected.
"Oh, there they are," Namjoon completely disregards your question and scampers over to the rest of the guys who had just appeared swiftly.
You throw a look at the fountain and he's still there. Stood strikingly with both of his hands pushed inside the pouches of his sweatpants. He's studying and watching the whole scene silently, like a CCTV camera positioned at a view where every single one of you can be seen.
But everyone still doesn't appear to notice the man just in front of them and you wonder why.
"Guys, don't you see him? He's literally there," You point at the fountain and everyone's eyes follow suit. But they don't see anything other than a broken fountain adorned with years of grime. You had noticed now that they are back to their usual selves, and the stone statue had finally worn off and was dropped somewhere - although, you don't know where.
"Who?" Jimin asks and pushes through the bodies and swiftly takes your arm, "The only person we see is you."
A big house stands in front of you, but it's barely a function as the house has been depleted. Black and mossy green scatter the ends of the building, vines of green spatter throughout the interior, but the windows are still intact. It seems as though the house is something you could see in a Victorian era as it has a classical vibe to it, like princes and princesses would live here and dance all night long in their fancy attires.
Jimin pulls you close to his body as you push through the bodies to end up at the entrance of the house.
"Don't tell me we're going in there?" you ask with wide eyes. The statement was barely incredulous as it was more like amazement. What could possibly be in there?
Jimin hums in agreement, although it does not surprise you at all. He starts to stride forward but you stay rooted on your spot. The hold on your arms start to loosen as his hand falls gently to the tip of of your fingers, until you two no longer have contact. He turns to you and looks at his hand and back to you.
"What's wrong?"
"I have a question," you say, but before you could start to speak he cuts you off, rather adamantly holds on to your arm once again. His eyes on you are strong, unbreaking and harsh.
"I know what your question is, and this is not a perfect place to answer that," he says as he peers behind your form and to the boys, and this takes you aback. All your life your brother had never looked at you like this, not even tried to hurt your feelings with a single unfamiliar chord splayed on his face. He has never been harsh to you.
It seems as though your brother has changed, like a beautiful angel had metamorphosed into a gorgoyle and had attached itself on your brother. This is not your brother, this is not someone you know. You don't know what happened to him during his stay here for god knows how long but this is quite sickening.
He notices your puzzled expression and the slants of his eyes soften. He takes your hand into his and mumbles a quick apology, "I'm sorry, I know everything is confusing but you'll get your questions answered soon."
You nod, although forced. Thoughts start to oppress your mind as they bully the only sanity you have left inside of you. But fear is the only feeling standing out amidst the unvoiced chaos in you. Staying here in this place the longer, the more it sickens you, and you have to have the guts to walk into that shabby building in order to know the answers and go back home.
"Let's go inside," he says and pulls you, swiftly opening the shabby door as a long shriek of a loosen nail on the door hinge fills your ears, until it slows its pace and only a miniscule creak it emits. The door is wide open for you, welcoming you into the darkness inside.
It seems as though a monster would lunge at you any second now, the only way you could shake the small fear behind your head is to gather your courage and go inside. Although the darkness is your weakness you have come to know that it is not always scary, it is only in your perspective and view, once your eyes adjust to the darkness you will see everything inside.
Your brother studies your motion, tilting his head every now and then, like a mad bull ready to charge with flaring nostrils. Only that, he's silent and calm, which somehow frightens you a little as the unnatural silence starts to nag at the back of your head.
You push through the cavern, leaving Jimin a few inches behind. You are the first person to enter the building and it somewhat pulls a sense of pride out of you. But that sense of pride quickly diminishes once you take a look at the surroundings.
There's nothing to be scared of here.
It's just a shabby old building without any interesting ornaments or any other thing inside. What have you expected? A glowing monster? A floating candle? A magical mirror? Everything is completely ordinary and simple.
Layers of fine dust cover the wooden tables and windows, there is nothing in here and it makes you wonder why you had to go inside to get your answers. It seems like no one inhabits the place, like it was abandoned and was not taken care of properly. But the atmosphere kind of gives you an eerie vibe, it seems as though the place is unnatural, and it feels close to fake.
You throw a glance at Jimin and he's right behind you, although his expression does not hold the same as yours. His is somewhat unexpected and undescribable, but you know what it meant - he knows where you two are supposed to go, and it's not here.
He looks straight ahead without his eyes wavering. He pushes past you, momentarily sending a small rock skittering across the room, the small sound fills the echoing room.
And then he stops in front of a boxed-shaped mirror across the room which you haven't noticed until now, his eyes travel through the intricately carved lines and swerves of the mirror, traipsing up the darkened obsolete.
His eyes land on the reflective material and looks at his reflection and your form meters away from him. You two look at each other, your face puzzled, his lips set into a straight line. It was as though a fire was starting to brew in the hearth of your hidden messages. He's telling you something, but this time, it's different. Because, you don't have any idea as to what he's saying.
Namjoon steps inside the cavern and shares his reflection in the mirror. Ending up with all three of you staring at each other. Silence and awkwardness start to fill the atmosphere. Without moving much, Jimin's hand moves to touch the mirror, only to flick a speck of dust. And then his hand unfurls and grabs hold of the crest of the wooden, dusty reflective thing.
He pushes it gently aside to reveal what's behind, and leans it on the wall.
You gasp slightly.
There was a door behind the mirror. It was hidden very well, and the tactic amazes you. Jimin turns to you and stretches his hand out to you, "Come, we have a secret we wanna show you."
You turn slightly to see Namjoon's eyes are trained on you, pushing you slightly with his eyes and nodding at you impassively. With a gulp you start to draw to Jimin as your footfall squishes through the wooden floor, resounding underneath the ground only to come out as a heavy squeak and creak.
The door in front of you is good as new, the golden knob seems like it was polished and cleaned everyday, undeniably amazing with the contrast of the building and the interior. The burnt sienna is just inches away from your forms and light seems to push through the small slit under the door.
Without passing any second Jimin touches the knob and opens the door as light rapidly seeps through the small slat. It widens much more and the light becomes a fulgent mass, pouring the room with ambience full of life and light. You squeak a little at the stabbing pain as you give time for your eyes to adjust.
Without realizing, a myriad of specks of dust had flew and floated in front of your face as the ray of light travels through the seams of the specks, making the descending leisure pace more prominent and real. You were staring at one particular speck which was so close to your eye making you snap and wave your hand to remove the harrowing feeling.
This is the time you see what's behind the myriad of harrowed specks. Everything in front of you is indescribable, but there's only one thing that had stuck at your eyes and at the walls of your brain.
A castle.
A black castle stood at a top of a greeny hill, with gray clouds masking the green and azure up above. Darkened walls of brick surround the castle, acting as protection from posing dangers. Greens and flowers surround the huge mass.
But there was something to it that was scary and sad - there was an existing contrast of burned and bloomed in the whole scene.
The flowers just outside the darkened walls of protection are in full bloom and some are even sprouting from its beautiful metamorphosis, whilst the atmosphere inside the walls is wretched, weak, and rotten.
The flowers that have the courage to bloom in there could only breathe and live from its sprouting stage and die before hopping to the next, all of the mass of greens inside are withered and torn and burned. It's as if the whole place inside the walls does not allow beauty to spread and it immediately kills those that do not conform.
And one thing you have noticed about the place, particularly about the flowers is that once it touches just an inch of the wall of protection it withers and dies on the spot. Like a powerful poison was spattered and rubbed on the walls, killing anything on its way.
Although it looks scary it doesn't scare you or pull a fear inside of you, rather, it makes you sad. It was as if there was a hidden story to the castle and you're sorry, for you have wanted to find it out.
But there was something to it that's majestically beautiful and powerful. Although at places like this the castle would end up being the only ugly thing that gets in the way of the beauty of the surroundings, but this time is different. The blooming greens ended up being the backdrop of the blackened high-rise building.
There was something beautiful about the blackness of the castle, it glimmers underneath the radiating sun and you cannot fathom why. For all your life you knew that black absorbs light and this does not seem it.
It was a beautiful collocation that slowly blends into a wonderful scene.
You had never thought to see a place like this and it excites you much more than how you should be. The old, depleted building was just a front to conceal a hidden paradise just at the back of your hand.
Jimin gently rests a hand on your shoulder and takes in the surroundings encompassed with fresh air. You could feel his gaze landing on you, studying your expression, although masked from the gentle cascaded tresses caressing your face.
"Welcome to our home, y/n."
