Untitled Part 6
The water was blue, splashing against the cliff. On it was an oval centered building stacked like layers of cake. It was concealed and isolated due to the heavily populated trees that followed it, allowing the building to stand at the edge of the cliff.
"Whew, really. Why did Rubymontes have to choose this lousy place as her residence." Elzeble wondered. He was of brown hair and different colored eyes. He was back from an errand. Having swam all the way to their hideout, Elzeble was weary. "Gosh! She's got no style. Not only that, she has a horrible personality too." Elzeble reached his hand into the doorway, where it rippled and ridged. Loosening the barrier, Elzeble built his face in smile and walked in. "Hi! Ruby-Ruby. Ruby's C.U.T.E. Elzeble is here!" There was nothing but silence and a human sized fish. It was purple with blue flailing tail Who went by the name of Gamode. "Ha...She's absent I see." Elzeble proclaimed, holding his head.
"If it's Rubymontes you're looking for, she's out." Gamode spoke.
"Oh, really. She must really like the human world." Elzeble said folding his hands.
"Why are you so wet? Don't tell me you swam all the way here."
"I did. There were so many things that looked exactly like you."
"That's very unpleasant to hear. Can you get away from me? You reek of fish."
"Huh? You're one to talk." Then with a doubtful face, Elzeble continues. "But why are you in that form? Ruby told me to stay in my human form so I can get used to it."
"I know but...It's uncomfortable."
"Heh. Since we're all the way in the human world, you might as well enjoy it a bit."
"Unlike you, I'm not here to play around."
"Whatever you say."
.....
Magic school, Helios, was for people who felt and could use mana. It was a place to raise talented individuals into true magicians with marks. And as such, they are separated into three classes: The upper class, Hereis, middle class, Klad, and lower class, Idun, depending on their skills. Students who enter Helios always start from the lowest class, Idun and can advance to the next class through an annual promotion test.
"Alright, everyone." Professor Baise called. "Because of his sickness, he had to join our class late." He gestured to Rood who was standing awkwardly with all the stares he was getting. "Mr. Rood Chrishi. Just because he was a little late. Don't bully him or anything." Mr. Baise turns to rood and puts his hand on his shoulder. "Mr. Rood Chrishi, please introduce yourself."
Rood awkwardly looks to the crowd of students. "Uh...Um. Nice to you." was all Rood could say. Then scanning the crowd, Rood found his target. He was separated from the rest of the students, sitting at the very back. "The duchess's second son. Lidusis Dien Artian" Rood thought. Lidusis had long silver hair that covered his eyes. Unlike the chatty students, Lidusis had his face downward, looking at whatever was on his desk which made Rood wonder why he was there by himself.
"Now then, Mr. Rood Chrishi. Go sit on the empty seat there." Professor Baise said, pointing towards an empty desk.
"Yes." Rood walked over, setting his bag on his desk. He glances over at Lidusis, wondering what kind of move to make. Just then, he received a wave from a student holding royal blue hair and light brown eyes.
"Hi! Nice to meet you, Mr. talented." Dio said with a smile.
"What?"
"You got a perfect score on the entrance exam, right? You're amazing. How old are you? You look young."
"Fifteen..." Rood replied.
"As i thought, you're younger than me. I'm 17. Dio Varus." Dio extended his hand. "You can call me Dio.
"Yeah...Thanks." Rood said, meeting Dio's hands.
.....
When classes were over, Rood was surrounded by a mob. It was filled with introductions and salutes. It was mainly about Rood's mysterious illness and how he managed to pull off a perfect score at the entrance exams. Indeed, it was a cover-up for Rood's late admittance. Rood was overwhelmed with all the questions and attention but was later saved by Dio.
"Hi again. This me...Has received an important mission of showing you around the school!" Dio pulled Rood out of the gathered crowd and away. Before exiting the classroom, Rood searched for Lidusis who had already left.
"You're so amazing, Rood." Dio exclaimed once they were outside. "To be the first perfect scorer...You probably don't know this, but i was in last place." Dio looks at Rood with a half-hearted smile. "We're polar opposites."
"I was just lucky." Rood forced a smile."You're amazing too, you know."
"Huh?"
"Out of all those freshmen, you're in last place. Not everyone can do that. That'd be hard even if you tried." Then with a serious face, Rood added. "Simply amazing."
"Um...Can you not say that with a serious face? It sounds real."
They wondered into the library, where it was very much quiet. "The Helios library!" Dio proclaimed. "You see that?" Dio said pointing over at a round table. Two students occupied the table and in the middle stood a blue mana stone that floated aloft its supporter. "It's used to cast soundproof magic. The circular table is its range. so its a perfect place to read a book without being bothered." Dio smiles at Rood. "so? Cool isn't it? The library is separated into three floors, but we can only access the first floor."
"Why?"
"Well...It's because we're in the lower class-"
"Hey, you with dark blue hair." Dio flinched as he heard the statement.
"Hmm?" Rood murmured and looked up.
"Hi." Chevel called. Chevel willed long yellow blonde hair tied up in a half ponytail with bangs swept to the side accompanied with gold eyes. He leaned over the balcony that separated the floors. With him were a hereis and a klad. "You're in professor Baise's class, right?" Chevel asks.
"Ye... yes, sir. I am" Dio replied suddenly nervous.
Rood glances at Chevel and notices the gold mark of a hereis on Chevel's left uniform arm.
"So how is...the monster from your class doing?" Rood becomes alarmed when Chevel finished.
"H-he's...doing well. Yes."
"Really? That's a shame." Chevel turns to leave. "Then. Continue with your business."
"I thought my heart would stop." Dio says as Chevel left.
"Why are you so tense?"
Dio just looks at Rood with a pitiful face.
"Rood. Your poor soul who has not yet learned the truth of hierarchical society..."
"What are you saying?" Rood said sighing.
"Rood, never go against the upper class, Hereis. I mean, there are only about twenty of them, but each of their power and privileges equal to that of about a hundred of us Iduns. If they come to dislike you, your peaceful school days are over!"
"O...kay."
"Also, among the Hereis, be especially wary of Chevel Phon Hadelio."
"Who's that."
"That's the blonde you just saw. Be careful not to anger him and try to avoid him as much as possible." Dio scratched his head. "We don't run into Hereis that often, but if you do, it's best to watch what you say." Dio leaned in and whispered to Rood. "They're all skilled...but their personalities are...well..."
"Messed up?" Rood finishes.
"Don't say it loud!" Dio puts his hand over Rood's mouth. "Chevel is especially notorious. Once he targets you, he'll go at it forever" He lets go of Rood's mouth and folds his hands.
"So...what's this monster he was talking about?" Rood was trying to get some information quickly.
"I guess it's prime example of what happens to you if Chevel comes to dislike you." Dio Slung his hand over Rood's shoulder. "Let's stop talking about something something like this. We've still got lots of places to go, my friend. Let's go!"
.....
It was late hours and Rood was exhausted from all the sight-seeing he did with Dio. They had gone through all accessible Idun areas. Rood wondered into the check-in area of the male dorms. He hadn't prepared his room for the day and was getting a little worried.
"Uh...Um..." Rood wasn't sure what to do.
"Rood Chrishi?" The receptionist called.
"Yes?"
"I was waiting for you. So did you have a good look around?" The receptionist was bright and cheery.
"Yeah. I did..."
"As for your room, just use the guest room until your roommate is decided."
"It hasn't been decided yet?" Rood asked.
"Well, yes. It should be decided in two or three days, so don't worry about it."
"Isn't there a room?" Rood asks. "Lidusis Dien Artian, was it? I hear he's using a room by himself."
"But...Rather than just picking, it's probably better to go after the room adjustment." The receptionist smiles all while talking. "You need time to get used to this place,too...so..."
"Please." Rood used a sincere smile. "You've probably heard...But since I was late, I'd really like to make a friend."
The receptionist couldn't say anymore.
.....
Rood walked up the series of doors. Each door was double set. It gold with number tags above. Rood strolled down the hall with his bags over his shoulder while tossing the room keys he was tentatively given. Rood stopped in front of a room listed 105. Rood was more or less hesitant to walk in, but he inserted the key and twisted, releasing the door open. It was dark and Rood fumbled to find the light. It was unusually large even for two people.
The room was equally divided among the roommate accompanied with the same look. Rood walked into the lighted room looking across for Lidusis. He was very much asleep, under his cover. Rood walked over to his bed, setting down his bags to unpack. By surprise, Lidusis dashed towards Rood and by reflex, Rood grabbed Lidusis's hand over his shoulder before he could connect. Rood then spun around in confusion.
"W-What?" Rood asked.
Lidusis only looked at Rood, not sure what to do. He sRood's and simply walked back to his bed. Rood was left wondering what just happened on his own.
"Um,hey? Hello?" Rood tried engaging in a conversation with Lidusis, but he only went to bed and covered his entire body with his cover, leaving Rood to wonder again.
It was a day break like no other because Rood had always woken in a loud and noisy environment. Either for his master's dumb requests or an emergency. Rood slept a gratifying one, and it was more than enough. Rising from his bed, Rood looked over to Lidusis's bed. It was nothing but an empty well made bed. Lidusis had already left. Rood woke from his bed and over to the window which united the divided room. Rood unlatched it, viewing the scene below. The were Iduns walking and chatting. Rood stared around, looking if he could find Lidusis. Just then, an Idun caught sight of Rood and Gasped.
"Hey,over there!" The Idun called, alarming the others. Rood now received the stares of pity from Iduns. Rood soon shut the window and leaned against it. "Could it be...Because this is Lidusis's room?" Rood thinks.
The hallway was as noisy as that morning was. It was mostly filled with what the students had witnessed that morning. The were hints of sympathy mixed with the chatter. Rood did nothing but walk, ignoring the conversations. Dio soon joins Rood with an unsure appearance. He grabs Rood over his neck and pulls him away. Once they were alone, Dio turns and looks at Rood.
"Rood! What was that for?" Dio yells.
"What...?" Rood asks confused.
"The thing about you being all buddies with lord Artian."
"Well, we're roommates." Rood answers back.
"Switch right away!" Dio puts his hand on Rood's shoulder. "Listen, the one everyone shuns because of Chevel That's him, Lidusis Dien Artian." Dio sighs heavily. "You'll be the one suffering if you keep talking to him."
"How did that happen." Rood asks.
"Huh?"
"It's not like he's from a low class family, and he looks just fine too. What could have happened in just one month...To be called a monster?"
"The reason why Lord Artian is being called a monster..." Dio shrugs. "I don't know,ha. But i know something, just not exactly. I know that Chevel started it, but it wasn't this bad at first. Everone started calling him monster after that incident."
"Incident?"
"About a week after the school year started, something happened in the library. Afterward, everyone started avoiding lord Artian."
"What happened?"
"I wasn't there, so I don't know exactly. But from what I heard, that day, Lord Artian...Turned into a terrifying monster." Dio gestures with his hands. "There's a story that he had three eyes or had hair sprouting everywhere. Or even grew six extra arms."
Rood was dumbfounded. "The hell are you saying? If you're lying, I'll smack you, really."
"I told you I don't exactly know! I wasn't there!" dio scratches his hair. "But since the library was closed for a couple of days, something definitely must have happened. Stop worrying about lord Artian and let's go switch rooms. The rumor only spread among the iduns, so it's a matter of time before the Hereis get a wind of it."
"How about you?"
"Huh?"
"If I don't switch rooms, will you avoid me too?"
"Eh..."
"You won't right, friend. Though it's only our second day." Rood smiles warmly at Dio.
