BITTERSWEET

She was stumped, at a loss of words, confused. Two weeks had gone by and she didn't even tell Will yet, she was pregnant. She's been trying to hide any tell for as long as possible.

When she went out with the girls last night, she was having a good time by dancing and acting getting drunk by in all reality, Vanessa was in the back of her mind. At first she wasn't going to say anything but now, all she wants is to talk to her — about everything. It was eating her up alive. Keeping the baby a secret, her true feelings, and she didn't know what she was going to do about Will.

Which is why she started breaking down in the women's bathroom at work. She didn't know what to do. She hated herself for having feelings for someone else when in a relationship and now she's pregnant. She hated herself because she knew this all could've been avoided if she came clean to Vanessa before meeting will. She wish she didn't know, then maybe she wouldn't be in the bathroom crying right now.

However, she also knew she had to get it out. The anger, the confusion, the sadness and she knew where to go. The source of her pain.

Vanessa.

The agent sat in her car, staring at the brown door. She immediately went over without a second thought and no, she wasn't nervous. She just didn't know where to start. So she sat for a few minutes longer before getting out and ringing the doorbell. Jj waited impatiently, her fingers tapping rhythmically against her thighs until the door swung open.

Vanessa was caught off guard but let her in anyway. She followed jj to the living room who sat on the couch. Jj's head was in her hands.

"Did you figure Cole wouldn't just tell me?" Jennifer mumbled. Jennifer finally looked up, "I mean, what did you really get from lying to her?"

"You weren't supposed to know. It's not like anything's going to change." Vanessa spoke.

Jj nodded, "You're right. Obviously nothing can happen. I'm pregnant and I love will." Jennifer sighed, "But that doesn't mean my feelings for you would just magically go away."

Vanessa been wanting to hear those words for so long. But not like this. Everything was weird, jj's with Will and apparently pregnant now. It wasn't fair to Vanessa that jj can just say that and nothing happening between the two but then again, jj could say the same thing.

Vanessa shook her head, "You can't say that then act like everything is fine. That's not fair."

Jj scoffed, "Didn't you do the same thing?"

"And who came to whose house?" There was a moment of silence, "Exactly."

The room fell silent. Jj was still sat on the couch while Vanessa now sat on the chair, on the opposite side. It wasn't necessarily awkward but it didn't feel normal either. The two didn't know what to do, what to say to make the other feel better.

Jennifer stared at the floor as Vanessa was leaning back in the chair. Their thoughts consuming them.

A couple more minutes went by and jj thought it was probably time to head back to the BAU. So she stood up, wiping her face.

"I'm going to go."

Vanessa stood up as well, "That's a good idea."

Jj headed to the front door. Her hand was on the knob as she turned back to Vanessa, "We can never happen."

Vanessa spoke softly, "I know."

The two shared one last look with one another before jj pulled open the door and walked out, heading to the car. Vanessa watched as jj got in and then soon pulled off.

She never felt her heart break like that before. She was heartbroken about Miguel when they were getting divorced but this is was worse. So many things happened all at once, yet she knew that would be the last time she would see jj for a while.

When she walked back in the house, door closing behind her, all she could think about was the many ways to now avoid Jennifer and keep her out her life. Because, having jj in it would hurt a lot more.

Cole hadn't spoken to Mia since the whole thing. Mia has tried to reach out plenty of times but Cole would just ignore them. However, one message definitely got her interest as she sat in the school library after hours.

Mia had sent a text asking if Cole was upset with her. The last thing Cole ever wanted Mia to feel was that it was her fault. She still felt guilty and she wasn't even sure about Mia and what that means to her.

Reading that text, she knew she had to say something. So Cole packed up her things and headed out to the nearest bus stop. She wanted to do it in person.

She waited for the bus then after about a couple of stops, she had finally arrived a block away from Mia's house. Just like every time when she goes there, she walked the rest of the way. Soon enough, Cole winded up at Mia's front door. The young teen took a deep breath in before knocking.

Mia made her way down from her room and to the door, there stood Cole after she opened it. She let Cole in after a second and two went to the living room after Mia closed the front door back.

They both sat on either side of the couch, quiet amongst each other. Cole bit the inside of her cheek wondering what exactly she should say.

"Do you hate me?"

Mia mumbled, beating Cole to the punch.

Cole turned to her, "Why would I hate you?"

"I ruined everything for you and Daniel. I heard about it." Mia basically told her the whole school knows.

"No, you didn't. I did." Cole paused, "I kissed you and I shouldn't have."

Mia looked at Cole, "Do you regret it?"

Now that question stumped her. She wasn't even sure. She missed daniel but where her and mia are now — she honestly preferred it.

"I don't know. I do know that it can't happen again." Cole continued, "We can never happen. It'll just mess up our friendship — way more than it already has."

Mia didn't agree but agreed anyway, "Yeah. Sure."

Did Cole believe anything coming out her mouth? Not in the slightest. Did she even know what she wanted? No, not really.

Just like jj, Cole was confused.

Just like Vanessa, mia knew what she wanted but that person didn't want her back.
