BITTERSWEET
::  lxv. | trials and tribulations

The newly engaged couple had two things going on pretty soon. One, they needed to have that long overdue family meeting and two, they were finally going to ask Will about being the sperm donor. However, now, since florence is in the picture, it's no longer just asking will —— they had to ask florence as well. Just out of respect since those two are in a relationship.

They were just wrapping up lunch, Vanessa was cleaning the dishes as jj went to do her laundry. However, she wasn't the only one attending the dishes, Cole was helping putting them in the washer. They liked their things extra clean. Dirty is never on their agenda.

As the two were continuing the dishes, Cole's mind evidently remembered that her mom wanted to have a family meeting but it never happened because a lot of things were popping up. It was the arguing and construction on the apartment, but now everything seemed fine.

So Cole cleared her throat before speaking as she put another dish in the washer, "Mom, remember that family meeting you wanted to have? It's probably not as important since we never had it."

"Actually, it is important." Vanessa placed the dish back in the sink, "Thank you for reminding me. I'm going to talk to mama real quick, could you finish up for me?"

Cole then proceeded to do the dishes, eventually finishing up when she hears her name being called to meet in the living room. After closing the dishwasher then starting it, Cole wiped her wet hands on her pants before making her way to the living room.

She saw her parents, Vanessa was standing in front of the tv while jj was seated on the couch. Cole made her way over and sat next to jj, looking at Vanessa.

With a clap of her hands, Vanessa began, "Ok, so you know how we are wanting to move? Well, apparently the city wants to buy the house and rebuild."

"How much would you get?" Jj stood up.

"4K, but that's not the point." Vanessa continues, "I'm not selling and I was only telling you two as a courtesy."

Cole stay seated, "But it's 4K mom. That's way more than what we probably have now."

Jj nodded, "Yes, it is. However, once it gets rebuild, we can just move in there."

Vanessa immediately shot it down, "No. I told you two out of courtesy. I don't want to move forward with this and we can find a new place to live."

Vanessa then left the living room to go check on Henry, leaving jj and Cole alone.

Jj turned to Cole, "If mom ask, I'll be at the store. Will and Florence are coming for dinner."

"Is this an adult dinner?"

"Well . . . " Jj thought for a moment, "We are going to talk about having a baby."

"Yeah —— " Cole nodded, "I don't think I want to be here for that."

Jj kissed Cole's head before leaving on out. Then soon Cole retreated to her room and texted the group chat between her, Mia, Arlo, and Ashton. She wanted to see if they wanted to hangout that night since she wasn't going to be having dinner with her family.

After a few hours, Vanessa and jj were making final touches to the dinner table. Cole on the other hand, she was finishing packing up a quick bag for where she was headed for some of the night.

Five minutes later quickly rolled around and there was a knock on the door as Cole was leaving her room. As she walked down the hall to the kitchen, her moms and Henry came zooming pass her.

They had rushed to the door and as soon as they reached it, jj opened it. Will and Florence were revealed, big smiles on their faces as everyone went in for hugs. But Cole, she waited till they came inside to get her hugs in. After quickly hugging Will and Florence, the young teen was out the door.

Not only a few minutes later was everyone seated at the table ready to eat. Henry was in his high chair, already having food and his bottle in front of him.

"Not going to lie, but this dinner was unexpected considering how the last one went." Florence mentioned before picking up her fork.

"Me and Vanessa . . " Jj glanced her way, "Worked it out."

"But this dinner is kind of serious." Vanessa continued.

Will swallowed his food in his mouth, "Serious? What's going on guys?"

"Not serious serious, but it's important." Jj continued with a bit of nervousness, "So, Vanessa and I want to have a baby. However, with us that would require sperm and we know this is a big ask, but we were hoping the sperm donor be you." Jj looked at Will.

Will didn't look up, he stared down at his plate of what he had left. After a moment or so, he looked to jj, his eyes were narrow. "Could I speak with you alone?"

Will followed jj from the table and into Henry's room. The door could be heard closing. Apparently it was serious enough that he didn't want to talk about it in front of Florence or Vanessa.

"What's the matter, will?"

"What would my role be in this baby's life? I mean, the kid will have my dna and look like me. So, am I like the dad or what?"

Jj nervously chuckled, "Well, me and Vanessa would be the primary parents. You'd be around but not as their dad."

"Then who? The kid will look like me, jj. Who else would I be if not their dad?"

"A family friend, will." Jj's arms were crossed over her chest, "But if you don't want to do this, then I need to know now."

"Why'd you ask?"

Her arms fell to her side, "Because you're the most genuine person I know."

He nodded, "I appreciate that, but I can't do it." He sighed, "I'm sorry."

Will left out the room and back to the kitchen. A few seconds later, jj found her way back as well. Will then proceeded to tell Florence and Vanessa his decision.

Even though they didn't want to show it, the engaged couple was crushed. They really wanted Will, but they understood why he chose not to. That just meant now they had to find someone else, which was going to take a while.

Florence on the other hand, she supported will's decision and she supports her friends. Her heart did break for them a bit, but she told them she would help find someone. That was the least she could do.

You could say the dinner was a bit ruin by the sudden mood change but not drastically. There was an understanding and commitment between everyone. At the end of the day, all there really is, is love.
