Chapter 14 May Angels Lead You In

A/N: Again, I would like to say that I know nothing of medical stuff so none of this will be accurate XD

The flashing red and blue lights were blinding and the sound of the sirens were cutting in and out as Lyric slipped in and out of consciousness. She felt no pain, but she knew something didn't feel right. She rolled her head to the right looking at her grandfather who was lifeless beside her. There was broken glass everywhere. Everything faded out again. She heard voices all around her but they sounded muffled.
"We've got an elderly male, deceased." One of the voices said but Lyric wasn't comprehending it.
Lyric opened her eyes again as a bright light shined right in her face.
"There's one alive!" She heard a man shout.
"One?" She muttered.
"Don't worry sweetheart we're going to get you out of there. You're going to be okay."
Lyric mumbled something and lolled her head to the side closing her eyes again
"Hey, stay awake!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was late, most of the roads were completely shut down. Sarah anxiously paced back and forth while Darren tried both Jack's and Lyric's cellphones again. Both Quin and Melody were asleep in the living room but Symphony was awake and watching out the window.
"Come on Sym, its time to get some sleep." Killian said. Symphony shook her head.
"I'm waiting for Mommy and Grampa." She said. Killian sighed and sat down beside her. He was worried but he was trying to remain calm for her.

Finally the house phone rang. Everyone stared at it for a moment hoping for a miracle before Sarah picked it up.
"Hello?" She answered and then it came, the fear stricken look in her eyes that no one wanted to see. She dropped the phone.
"We have to go." She said.
"Go where? Sarah what is it?" Darren asked.
"That was the hospital. There was an accident." Sarah answered her voice was cracking but she was trying to keep herself together.
"Are they okay?" Killian asked.
"They didn't say they just said to get there."
"The roads are bad Sarah we have to th-" Darren started but was cut off.
"I don't care if the apocalypse is happening! I am going." She said.
"Ari and I will stay with Quin and Mel." Eric said not wanting to wake the two sleeping kids. Killian hurried to get Symphony's coat and boots on her and they left.

The three of them hurried into the hospital. Killian held Symphony who was yawning on his shoulder.
"Why are we here? Is Mommy sick?" She asked.
"I don't know love. Try to sleep." Killian replied softly as The Mckenna's were talking to the people at the front desk. It wasnt long before a doctor, and a nurse came out to speak with them. Killian joined Darren and Sarah to see what was going on.
"What happened?" Sarah asked.
"The Emergency response team says that Jack hit a patch of black ice and spun off the road. The vehicle flipped and landed in a ditch." The doctor explained.
Darren held his wife close and Killian braced himself for the worst. Every worst possible thought was going through his mind. How would he tell Symphony if her mother was dead?
"H..how are they?" Darren asked. The doctor frowned.
"Jack was DOA." Sarah turned into Darren crying into his shirt.
"And..Lyric?" Darren asked as if afraid of the answer.
"Lyric is alive miraculously. But she has sustained some injuries that we are still trying to figure out. We know for sure, she suffered a concussion and she's got some bruising in multiple areas but more so concerning is she seems to be experiencing some paralysis in her left arm we are working on finding out the cause now. She's awake, but she isn't fully aware of the situation. We wanted to wait for you to tell her about her grandfather and we wanted to wait for you to tell her about the paralysis."
"When can we see her?" Killian asked.
"Give us about 30 minutes to finish this next set of tests and move her to another room and a nurse will come and get you." The doctor said and gave them a sad smile "I'm sorry for your loss." He added before he walked back into the Emergency rooms.

-----------------------------------------------------------
It was too quiet. Lyric's parents, and Killian had come in the room 15 minutes ago and had hardly said a word but Lyric knew something was wrong, her mother and father were both crying. Her head was pretty foggy, and she didn't remember everything about the accident.
"Has anyone been to see grandpa yet?" Lyric asked. Sarah started sobbing uncontrollably. Lyric had never seen her mother this way.
"Dad?" She asked somehow she knew, her eyes welled over.
"The doctors wanted us to be the ones to tell you Lyric. But we spoke to the emergency team on the scene they said that he likely felt no pain, it was instantaneous." Darren tried his best to explain without being blunt. Lyric looked away, she hated crying in front of anyone but she couldn't stop the tears. It wasn't fair, they were making peace with each other, they were going to finally have the grandfather/granddaughter relationship that Lyric wanted and for him to be taken just like that seemed cruel. Killian sat down in the chair next to Lyric and shifted Symphony who was asleep so he could hold Lyrics hand. Lyric looked down at saw his hand she tried to squeeze it but she couldn't move her fingers no matter how hard she tried.
"I..I can't feel my hand." She stammered. She tried to move any part of her left arm but she couldn't feel it. She started panicking. "Why can't I feel my arm?!"
"The doctors said you had some paralysis in your left arm and hand. They are supposed to be coming back with more information." Killian explained softly.

--------------------------------------------------------

Lyric looked in the mirror trying to brush out her hair before the funeral. She was used to doing everything with her left hand so trying to do everything right handed was a task and she was still sore everywhere from the accident. The doctor did say that the paralysis in her left arm and hand wouldn't be permanent but it would take some time, and a lot of physical therapy and possibly surgery before she had complete use of her arm again. She was able to move her fingers a bit now, but couldn't grasp anything yet Killian stepped up behind her, watching her struggle with the tangles in her hair.
"Need some help?" He asked. Lyric shook her head.
"I've got it. Thanks though.." She said and continued to struggle. Killian sighed and put his hand over hers
"Here." He said and took the hair brush, brushing through her hair.
"Thanks.." She mumbled.
"You don't have to be afraid to ask for help love. How do you want your hair?" Killian asked.
"Just a ponytail." She said passing him a hair elastic. Killian put her hair up.
"I've been practicing with Sym." He smiled.
"How is she this morning?" Lyric asked. Symphony didn't quite understand that Jack was gone.
"She's adamant that he is just taking a really long nap." Killian sighed. Lyric frowned.
"How are you doing? You've hardly said a word all week."
"I'm fine." Lyric lied. Killian gave her a skeptical look.
"I'm fine." Lyric repeated and stood up wincing and holding her side.
"When's the last time you took your pain meds?" Killian asked looking at the nearly full bottle, getting his answer then.
"This morning." Lyric lied again. "I'm fine."
"The more you say it, the less convincing it is love." Killian frowned. Lyric looked over her shoulder at him and tried her best to give him a reassuring smile before walking out of the room to join her parents before the funeral.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The funeral was nice, there was a lot of people, Jack had a lot of friends, and knew a lot of people, there was also a lot of family that Lyric hadn't seen in a while so while it was a horrible way to bring everyone together again it was nice to see family again. After the service, everyone sat speaking about Jack. Lyric was quiet listening to the stories of the man she only knew as cold, and mean learning that he was anything but. He did a lot of good work that she didn't even know about. To all of these people he was a completely different man and Lyric hated that she only got a glimpse of that man before he died. Lyrics heart dropped when a coworker began talking about when he had asked for time away from work to go to a concert at Julliard a few years ago. Lyrics first piano concert. She didn't even know he was there. She never knew that he silently supported her and she felt guilty for saying the things she had. She stood from the table.
"I'll..be back." She said quietly and left the fellowship hall at the church.

It had been about an hour and Lyric still hadn't made it back inside. Killian approached Tink, Jefferson and Victor.
"Have any of you seen Lyric?" He asked. Tink shook her head.
"We were about to come find you and ask the same thing. Her parents were looking for her too."
"Do you mind to keep an eye on Sym while I look around outside for her?"
"Of course not." Tink smiled and took Symphony from him.
"Need any help?" Jefferson asked.
"No, I don't think she wants to be around a whole lot of people right now." Killian sighed. "Thank you though, I will text Tink when I find her." He said and left

Killian walked all over the church grounds looking for Lyric, she was really good at hiding when she didn't want to be found. There was a small wooded area behind the church that he started searching. He was about to give up hope when he came to a bridge with a frozen stream underneath it. Lyric was standing on the bridge looking down. She turned hearing Killian's boots crunching in the snow behind her. Her red, tear stained cheeks were evidence of the reason she wanted to get away. Killian knew she hated to cry in front of people.
"Hey, everyone was worried about you." He said softly and stood beside her putting his arm around her waist.
"Sorry." She mumbled. "You know me..and rooms full of people."
"I know love. I almost didn't find you. You picked a good spot to hide."
"I know. I used to hate sitting still in church when my grandfather would take me when I was little. I'd get anxious and start throwing a fit and we'd end up out here. He called it our quiet place. I'd almost forgotten about it until now. Somehow all the good times I had with him got washed away with all the bad and I forgot that underneath the tough skin he was human too." Lyric adjusted herself and winced holding her side again.
"You okay?" Killian asked. He knew she wasn't.
"Yeah. its just still sore from the accident.." Lyric said. "Its fine. I probably deserve it anyways."
"What do you mean?" Killian asked.
"Its nothing." Lyric shrugged.
"No, what do you mean? You don't deserve to be in the pain you are in Lyric don't do that to yourself."
"I do deserve it. I shouldn't have acted the way I did on Thanksgiving I shouldn't have left the porch. He wouldn't have come to get me, He wouldn't be dead. I pretty much killed him and I didn't even get to apologize for screaming at him! Because of me, my mother lost her father, the only parent she had left. And Symphony lost her great grandfather who she loved so much and she doesn't even understand! She thinks he's sleeping and he'll be back for Christmas because grandpa Jack would never miss Christmas! So yes Killian I deserve every bit of the pain!" Lyric was screaming, and the tears were free falling out of her eyes like a downpour. Killian pulled her against his chest. She tried to push away but with the one good arm it was no use. She tried using her legs but her boots only slipped on an icy patch on the bridge and she brought both her and Killian down into the snow but Killian still wouldn't let go Lyrics whole body was shaking from her sobs as she finally let it all out. Killian held her closely whispering soothing words to her while she cried
