Lyric looked at her little girl in the car seat in the back of her car in the rearview mirror as they sat in Killian's driveway. She felt anxiety creeping under her skin. She had never been away from Symphony and she kept tearing up on the way over here and it didn't help that Sym still wasn't talking to her. She watched Symphony's eyes light up and then looked out the window as Killian was approaching the car. She rolled the window down.
"You've been sitting out here for 10 minutes Lyric." Killian said. "Come inside. I want to show you her room."
Lyric hesitated. "Okay." She said. Killian smiled and walked around to the backseat and opened the door getting Symphony out of the car seat.
"Do you need to take that?" Lyric asked as she got out.
"No, I've got one in my car." Killian said shutting the car door and carrying Symphony inside. Lyric followed him inside the house.
"Where's my room Daddy?" Symphony asked.
"Its up the stairs, come on." Killian smiled and put her down. Symphony started running up the stairs.
"Walk, please!" Killian scolded her gently and she walked the rest of the way. Lyric followed behind. Killian led Symphony to a room where Her name was painted on the door with music notes.
"You ready?" He asked.
"Yes!" Symphony said excitedly. Killian smiled and opened the door. Symphony gasped and ran into the room. The walls were painted a pastel purple, and there was intricate designs all over the walls in a light blue color.
"Wow.. this is beautiful Killian. Who did this?" Lyric asked.
"I did." Killian shrugged.
"I didn't know you could paint too." Lyric said.
"I'm a jack of all trades." Killian smiled.
"Whoa!" Symphony yelled and ran to a corner of the room where there was a Guitar, a piano, and a small Symphony sized drum set.
"I wasn't sure what she might want to play." Killian said.
"She plays my dads drums all the time and he gets onto her, so She'll be thrilled to have her own." Lyric said watching Symphony run around the room.
"I..should go." Lyric said.
"You can stay for a bit." Killian offered.
"I better not. Its best to rip the bandaid.. You know.." She said and walked over to Sym.
"I have to go Sym. I'll see you Monday after school okay?" Lyric asked. Symphony was quiet.
"Come on Sym.. please talk to me." Lyric begged but to no avail. She sighed. "I love you Sym. be good." She said and turned around.
"Call me. If anything happens." Lyric said to Killian. He nodded.
"I will." He agreed. Lyric walked past him out of the room and down the stairs and just barely made it to the door before Symphony came running down the stairs followed by Killian trying to get her to slow down.
"Mommy wait!" Symphony cried and latched herself onto Lyric's legs. Lyric reached down and picked her up.
"What is it?" Lyric asked.
"Don't go." Symphony pouted.
"I have to go Sym, I have to go to work."
"Technically, I am your boss..so..you really don't." Killian shrugged.
"Your brother is my boss. Not you." Lyric said and raised an eyebrow.
"As always you have problem with authority." Killian chuckled.
"I have never!" Lyric scoffed.
"Mommy please!" Symphony begged with tears in her bright blue eyes. "Don't leave us."
"How can you say no to that face?" Killian asked.
"You are not helping here." Lyric sighed and looked at her daughter who was begging her, and clinging to her.
"I didn't bring my things Sym. Only yours." She said.
"Call grampa he can bring it." Symphony said. "I don't want you to go." She said clinging to Lyrics neck.
"I have a guest room." Killian offered.
Lyric sighed. She couldn't leave Symphony crying like this.
"Okay, Okay. I will stay. One night, but saturday and sunday, I'll be back home. Got it?" Lyric asked. Symphony nodded and smiled. Lyric wiped her daughters tears away and set her down.
"Go play in your room while I call your uncle Liam to tell him I can't come in."
"I..already did." Killian said. "Before you came."
Lyric crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him.
"You planned this."
"Not exactly, I just knew as soon as Sym started crying you wouldn't be leaving." Killian shrugged.
"Mmhm.." Lyric said skeptically and pulled out her phone to text her Dad to bring her an overnight bag.
-----------------------------------------------------------
After the three of them ate dinner, they sat in Killians living room together watching a movie that Symphony picked. Lyric couldn't help but think, that it felt nice to spend a quiet evening with just the three of them, without her Parents or Quin being in the other room. It felt natural. Symphony was curled up in a blanket on the floor in front of the tv and Killian and Lyric were sitting on the couch, Lyric had put at least a cushions space between the two of them when the movie started, but as they were closer to the end, they had somehow gotten closer, Lyric didn't even notice until Killian's leg brushed against hers. She looked down and hadn't even noticed that she had her hand on his thigh on top of his. She pulled her hand away and awkwardly adjusted her glasses and looked at the clock then cleared her throat before sleeping.
"Uh, Sym it's just about bedtime."
"But Mommy!" Symphony whined.
"Yeah, Mummy!" Killian pouted at her.
"Don't you start too." Lyric said and narrowed her eyes at him.
"Come on love, it's friday night, let her at least finish the movie." Killian said.
"Okay, fine. I'm going to pick up the kitchen but when the movie is done its bed time."
"You don't have to pick up my kitchen Lyric, I'll do it when she goes down for the night." Killian said as Lyric was standing up.
"No, Its fine. I'll do it." Lyric said walking into the kitchen. She watched as Symphony stood up and got on the couch next to Killian to finish her movie.
As Lyric was finishing up loading the dishwasher. Symphony wandered into the kitchen yawning with her blanket wrapped around her. Lyric smiled and closed the dishwasher and picked her up.
"Ready for bed?" She asked.
Symphony nodded and laid her head on Lyrics shoulder. She carried her up the stairs and to her room. Killian was in the room getting her bed ready for her. He stepped aside so Lyric could lay Symphony down. She was already pretty much out. Killian pulled the blankets up and tucked her in and kissed her on the forehead. Lyric did the same.
"Good night Sym." She whispered.
"Night mommy. Night daddy." Symphony replied and closed her eyes.
"Night little love." Killian smiled as the two of them left the room turning out the light and leaving the door open just a crack.
Lyric walked down the stairs and opened her overnight bag and pulled out her bathroom bag and walked to the downstairs bathroom and started brushing her teeth. Killian leaned against the door frame watching her. She paused and raised an eyebrow at him
"What?" She asked.
"Its just you're beautiful even with toothpaste dripping out of your mouth." He smirked. Lyric rolled her eyes and shook her head and finished brushing her teeth.
"No." She said and then leaned down to spit and rinse.
"No what?" Killian asked.
"No, we aren't doing this." Lyric said and rinsed her toothbrush, put it back in the holder and into the bag, where she retrieved her facial cleanser to wash her face.
"Doing what Lyric?" Killian asked.
"You know what." Lyric sighed and started lathering her face with the cleanser.
"I honestly don't know Lyric." Killian sighed.
Lyric rinsed her face and grabbed a towel off the rack to pat it dry.
"Actually you do. You are just trying to use reverse psychology, and get me to tell you, what it is that you are doing, and then turn it around on me, to make it seem like the only reason I assume that you are doing what you are doing, because I want it, and not you." Lyric explained. Killian just stared at her for a few seconds and then shook his head.
"Well.. do you want it?" Killian asked.
"Want what?" Lyric asked.
"Whatever it is you think I am doing." Killian said.
"No. I don't want to get back together with you," Lyric scoffed.
Killian smirked.
"Damn it." Lyric grumbled and walked out of the bathroom back to her overnight bag.
"So you think I am trying to get us back together." Killian said. "And you think, that by admitting thats what you think I am doing, that I will think, that you only think that, because it's what you want."
"Exactly." Lyric nodded.
"Is it what you want?"
"No. Killian I just told you that. The only reason I am here is for Sym."
"Then what do you want Lyric?" Killian asked.
"I want to go to bed." Lyric said and walked past him.
"Suit yourself." Killian smiled. He knew Lyric, He knew that she wouldn't have mentioned it if she didn't want it. It gave him hope that he would get her back, in time.
"If you decide, that going to bed, was not the only thing you wanted. You know where I'll be."
"Well, don't stay up all night waiting on a miracle Jones." Lyric mumbled and walked into the guest room and closed the door.
She put her bag on the bed and pulled out her pajamas and peeled her clothes off before slipping into her pjs she grabbed her phone charger and plugged it into the wall and looked down at a picture frame in between the bed and the nightstand. She picked it up and looked at it and frowned at the engagement picture of Killian and Anna. He actually looked happy. She scoffed and opened walked over to the closet and opened it to toss the picture in there.
"What the.." She mumbled and looked at the box in the closet labeled.
"Anna"
She opened the box and there was a bunch of pictures of Killian and Anna, there were some of her clothes, and some jewelry. Why did he still have this stuff?
--------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning Killian noticed that Lyric was more quiet than normal, in fact she didn't even speak to him. She spoke with Symphony and that was it. As far as he knew when she had gone to bed last night she wasn't mad at him, so what happened to change that?
"Can I go play now?" Symphony asked. Lyric nodded and picked up Symphonys empty cereal bowl.
"Go on, I'll be up in a minute and then I'm going back home and I will see you monday." Lyric smiled.
"Okay Mommy." Symphony smiled and hopped out of her chair and ran off to her room. Lyric rinsed out the bowl and put it in the sink and walked past Killian not even looking at him.
"Did I do something in the 8 hours you were asleep to piss you off?" Killian asked.
Lyric scoffed and went to the guest room and started putting her things in the bag.
"Come on Lyric, just talk to me.." Killian sighed.
"I have nothing to say to you." Lyric shrugged and closed the bag and put it over her shoulder.
"You obviously have something to say so say it."
Lyric glared at him and walked over to the closet door and pulled it open and pointed to the box of Anna's things.
"Shit.. I forgot that was in here." Killian sighed.
"Why do you still have it? Do you have a Lyric box too?" Lyric asked
"What? No. I hadn't really been here after you lost the baby and I just packed up her shit and put it in there I was going to ship it to her parents."
"After I lost The baby? You mean after your psycho bitch of a fiance killed our baby!" Lyric spat.
"Were you even going to leave her??"
"What do you mean?!" Killian demanded.
"If she hadn't done what she did? Were you going to leave her? Or were you just going to keep getting the best of both worlds? Because I looked at the pictures Killian, you can't fake that happiness."
"Yes Lyric, I was going to leave her. And yes, I was at one point Happy with Anna but when I saw you in New York..that changed."
"You should have never come looking for me." Lyric said and shook her head. "I'm glad you moved on, but I didn't. It took four years to get over what you did to me and then you came back and fucked up my life all over again!"
"I'm sorry! Okay? I'm sorry. I never wanted this to happen. But you aren't so innocent either You should have called me the minute you found out you were pregnant with Sym! I lost out on four years of her life!"
"I didn't want you to do to her what you did to me! I didn't want her to get attached and then when the wind shifts you are gone, I refused to let you hurt her too!" Lyric shouted
"I wouldn't have!" Killian yelled.
"I'm done with this. I'll come get Symphony on monday."
"Don't you see she wants you to stay?! Now who is hurting her?"
"Don't you dare put that on me!" Lyric snapped "Everything I have done for her was for her best interest! Why would I stay with you Killian? Its obvious this is not going to work!"
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"I mean maybe we should get lawyers. I'm taking Symphony home with me." Lyric started up the stairs.
"The hell you are, she is my daughter and she wants to stay!" Killian shouted and followed her.
"I am her mother. I make the decisions Not you!"
"I am her father!"
"You've been her father for what? A few months?!" Lyric argued.
"I would have been there from day one if you would have fucking called me Lyric!"
"You never should have left me you fucking prick!" Lyric screamed. "This is on YOU not me!"
"I didn't want to leave you! I had no choice!"
"You had a choice Killian you made the wrong one. So now you get to live with it."
"Lyric please. I left to secure your future!"
"What the hell are you talking about??" Lyric asked.
"Jack. He told me if I didn't leave you, he would tell the board of admissions at Juilliard about us. If he did, it would have meant immediate expulsion for you because I am the one who got you the audition, I am the one who sent the letter of recommendation. Our relationship would have been seen as favoritism, even if I did quit, I was still employed when you were accepted. I left you, to protect you. If I had known you were pregnant.." Killians eyes welled over. "I have regretted leaving, every day for the last four years."
"Killian why didn't you tell me?!" Lyric asked."I would have said to hell with Juilliard I didn't need it. I needed you."
Killian thumbed away a tear from her eyes.
"I couldn't be responsible for destroying your dreams Lyric."
"Dreams change Killian, the second I met you, You were all I wanted. All that mattered. You should have told me."
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Killian said. Lyric went to speak but stopped suddenly hearing soft whimpering coming from Symphony's room. She hurried the rest of the way down the hall followed by Killian and opened the door.
"Sym?" She asked looking around the room. "Where is she?" She asked frantically. Killian walked over to the closet that was open just a crack and pulled it open Symphony was sitting on the floor in the closet with her hands over her ears crying.
"Lyric." Killian said. Lyric walked over and sighed. Her and Killian had been so busy screaming at each other they had completely forgotten Symphony was up here listening to every word. Killian crouched down and crawled in the closet next to her. Lyric crawled in and sat on the other side of her and pulled her hands off of her ears.
"Its okay Sym." She said softly.
"No more yelling. No more fighting." Symphony begged. Lyric nodded and looked at Killian.
"No more fighting." She agreed. Killian gave her a quick nod of agreement and a smile.
