4 Years Later

"Yeah, Dad everything is fine." Lyric tried her best to sound convincing. Her parents were always calling to check on her since she had refused to move back in with them after finding out she was pregnant with Symphony, and finding out about the horrible break up with Killian.
"Are you sure sweetheart? You sound stressed. Do you need us to come up?"
"Dad, for the last time you and mom can not just drop everything and come to New York. What are you going to do with Quin? I told you everything is fine, Tink and I have everything covered."
Lyric felt a tug on her pant leg and looked down at her four year old.
"Momma, my tummy hurts." She said.
"Is that my baby?" Darren asked.
"Yeah she just got up from her nap, she said her tummy hurts so I have to g-" Lyric didn't finish her sentence before Symphony threw up all over her pants.
Lyric pinched the bridge of her nose and tried her best not to scream in frustration. She had just finished getting ready for work.
"What was that?" Darren asked.
"I have to go Dad,"
"Okay, well are you still planning on coming to Storybrooke when you get your time off?"
"Yeah should be in a couple weeks me and Sym will come down to visit, she misses you guys and Quin.. and..I do too." Lyric said her eyes welled. She did miss her family but going to Storybrooke was always risky for her, She didn't want to see him. She had spent four long years getting over him and He had no idea that Symphony even existed. Lyric hadn't spoken a word to him since he broke up with her. He made it clear he was done and she was not about to let him get remotely close to Symphony only to walk away and leave her, like he did Lyric.
"We miss you too baby." Darren said. "I haven't seen satan around in a while.. So you should be good."
"You still haven't said anything to him.. Right?..you know about Sym?"
"Lyric I would never do that to you. Anyways, we love you and we will see you soon." Darren replied
"Love you too Dad." Lyric said "See you soon." she hung up the phone and scooped up Symphony.
"Lets get you cleaned up yeah?" She asked and carried her to the bathroom and started the bathtub. She put her hands on Symphony's cheeks and frowned.
"You are burning up." She mumbled and adjusted the temperature on the tub to be cooler. She helped the child out of her clothes and picked her up and put her in the bathtub while the water filled she put some toys in the tub to keep her busy for just a moment.
"Be right back. Don't move." Lyric said and hurried across the hall to the bedroom to grab her change of clothes and hurried back to the bathroom to change not wanting to leave Sym alone for longer than a couple of minutes.
"Oh.. My. God.. I left you for just a minute!" Lyric let out an exasperated sigh looking at the wall of bubbles forming in the bathtub and all over the floor.
"Look momma, bubbles." Symphony said.
"Look Symphony, a mess." Lyric replied with her hands on her hips.

Lyric had to be at work in another 40 minutes and Symphony was not getting any better. She paced the living room floor with her phone to her ear keeping an eye on her daughter laying on the couch.
"Yo." Victor answered.
"Please don't answer the phone like that you are supposed to be becoming a doctor Vic." Lyric sighed.
"Okay, so Yo, it's Doctor Whale."
"You are impossible." Lyric said and shook her head.
"Whats up? I'm kind of busy studying."
"I know you aren't officially a doctor but I need you to come check out Sym. Her pediatrician can't see her until monday."
"Everything okay?" Victor asked.
"I don't know, shes got a fever that won't break and she's complaining that her tummy hurts and she's throwing up. Please just come look."
"Okay, I'll be over in a minute." Victor said and hung up.
Lyric put her phone back in her pocket as Tink and Jefferson were walking in the apartment.
"You look positively frazzled." Tink said.
"Sym is sick. Victors coming over to look. I hate to do this, I know you guys were having date night, but on top of everything my back up sitter can't come over, and If I call off one more time I'm going to get fired. Can you guys watch her?"
"Of course!" Tink smiled
"Yeah, we'll just order pizza and watch a movie with Sym." Jefferson shrugged and plopped down on the couch next to Symphony.
"Whats wrong kid?" He asked.
Symphony just whimpered and put her hand on her stomach. Lyric frowned she hated leaving Symphony home period, but leaving when she was sick was even worse.
There was a knock on the door. Lyric walked over and opened it and sighed in relief at Victor.
"Thank you for coming." She said.
"No prob." Victor said and walked over and started checking out Symphony.
"Hows it looking?" Lyric asked.
"Not good." Victor said.
"What??" Lyric said rushing over.
Victor smirked.
"Relax I was kidding. It looks like she might have a bug."
Lyric sighed and punched his shoulder.
"Not funny jerk!" She glared. "There were some kids being sent home yesterday from her preschool. But she never usually gets sick."
"Just make sure she gets plenty of fluids. Rotate tylenol and motrin for the fever every 4 hours and she should be ship shape by morning."
"Can you handle that?" Lyric asked Tink.
"You know I can." Tink grinned.
"Okay. I have to go. Thank you so much Vic. and Thank you guys for sacrificing date night and coming to my rescue." Lyric said and kissed Symphony on the forehead.
"You be good okay?"
Symphony nodded and winced in pain holding her stomach.
"Are you sure shes okay?" Lyric asked. Something in the back of her mind was telling her something was wrong.
"Yeah shes fine. I can stay for another hour just to be sure if you want."
"Please?" Lyric asked. "And call me if anything changes." Lyric said.
"We will." Tink smiled and shooed her out the door.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lyric walked into the smokey, loud bar and sighed. These places were much more fun when she wasn't working.
"Where have you been?" Ruby asked
"I'm sorry, my kid is sick." Lyric sighed as she walked behind the bar.
"Its fine, I covered for you." Ruby smiled.
"Thanks." Lyric replied. She wasn't sure why she wasn't friends with Ruby in high school, considering she was friends with her boyfriend Victor but Ruby turned out to be pretty cool too. She was always covering for Lyric if Lyric was late.
Lyric looked over at the stage at people setting up.
"We have a live band tonight?" She asked. Ruby shrugged.
"Live, band, some weird guy singing I don't know I didn't check the schedule. She said. Lyric laughed.
"You never do."
"When are you going to get back up there?" Ruby asked. "People loved you."
"I don't know Ruby it's not really my thing anymore." Lyric shrugged. That was a lie, Music was still her passion. She taught a small class of kids music on the weekends to help pay the bills. She could do it from home. She just hadn't really had the desire to play much herself for a couple years.
"I still think you were insane for leaving school. With your talent.." Ruby sighed.
"I didn't really have a choice. The first two years weren't so bad, but then Sym started walking, and running, and she was harder to keep up with, and you know me there are three people in the world I trust with my kid for any extended period of time, and those three people aren't always available." Lyric shrugged "Its fine. I don't need to be a master of music, I can play just fine without the fancy paper." Lyric said and walked away to go clean something before she got angry. Everytime someone mentioned her quitting Juilliard she tended to get upset. She left so she could be with her daughter, and her daughter was the most important thing in the world to her, she would quit a thousand times over again for her, but it was still a little upsetting, Lyric liked to multitask she wanted to be able to do it all, but under these circumstances she just couldn't.
"Lyric, can you bring our entertainer some water? He's in the back." her boss said.
"Yeah. Sure." Lyric said what she wanted to say was why couldn't he walk his happy ass out to the bar and get it himself, but She had dealt with a lot of these musicians around here who thought they were better than everyone else. Lyric grabbed a few bottles of water from behind the bar and walked towards the back room stopping dead in her tracks as the entertainer could be heard rehearsing.

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences; open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

Over the last four years, Lyric had finally gotten to a place where that song wouldn't reduce her to a sobbing mess, and it wasn't the song that was getting her this time. It was the voice. She knew that voice. She hesitantly walked down the hallway towards the room where the voice was coming from. She got to the door and when she saw who it was she dropped the bottles of water on the floor.

No. No. He can not be here.
The man turned around and Lyric was hit in the chest. He looked different than the last time she saw him. His hair was messier, and his scruff was.. Scruffier and his baby blues, were bluer?
No. Lyric. That's not possible.
"Lyric.. Love is that you?"
Killian ruined my damn life Jones. Of course it's him.
Lyric turned around and walked away without a word. She couldn't talk to him. She couldn't see him.
"Hey, wait!" Killian said and put his hand on her elbow and it was as if the four years of heartbreak meant nothing, she was hit with that familiar spark the second his fingers touched her skin. She pulled away and shook her head.
"No. Killian.. I can't.. I can't do this."
"Lyric..please just talk to me."
"No! Why the fuck would I Killian? After what you did to me.." Lyric turned around making her first mistake of that night. She faced him. She looked into those damn blue eyes. They looked lonely and full of remorse.
"Lyric.. I am so sorry." Killian said.
"You're sorry?" Lyric scoffed. "You know what.. Fuck you. How dare you come here? How dare you sing that song. How did you even know I was working here?"
"I asked around. As big as New York is there is only one Lyric Mckenna.." Killian shrugged.
"Charming as always." Lyric spat. "I don't have time for this. I have to go to work." Lyric turned again walking away from him.

"Holy..Moses. Is that Mr. Jones??" Ruby asked watching Killian sing with a fuckstruck look in her eyes.
"Mmhm." Lyric mumbled and rolled her eyes. "You're dating a future doctor and you are ogling that?" Lyric asked and nodded her head at Killian.
Ruby smirked and put her hands on her hips.
"Its okay to look, and not touch even though I really want to touch him." She said.
Lyric rolled her eyes again and finished mixing a drink and slid it across the bar to a customer.
"Wait, weren't you two a thing? It was like hot news in Storybrooke after graduation the quiet shy girl was dating the teacher."
"Keyword, were. Ancient history." Lyric mumbled.
"Whoa. Wait. Symphony.. She's..." Ruby started.
"She's not his." Lyric lied.
"Well then whos is she?" Ruby asked.
"Scarlet." Lyric shrugged.
"No. Way." Ruby said. "You and Will?"
Lyric sighed. "Can we please not talk about this?"
"Fine." Ruby said and went to go check on tables and get a closer look at Killian. Ruby wasn't the only person who Lyric told that lie to and Will was aware of it. He told her that if Killian ever found out about Symphony to say that he was her father, or if anyone got a little too curious. Very few people knew the truth.

Lyric let out a disgruntled groan as Killian finished his set and started approaching the bar. He sat down on the stool directly in front of her and Lyric was suddenly aware of the irony in this situation, When they had first met they were on opposite sides of the bar.
"Sorry, the bar that serves assholes is down the street." Lyric said and took the drink order of the customer next to him.
"You can't just refuse to serve me." Killian scoffed. Lyric reached down and picked up a sign and slapped it down in front of him.
"This bar reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.." Killian read outloud and sighed.
"Okay, so.. You can. Come on love.."
"Is this guy bothering you sweetheart?" The guy next to Killian asked.
"Nah, I can handle it Jim." Lyric said and popped the top on his beer and handed it to him She turned to Killian and glared as Jim walked away.
"What do you want?"
"You know what I like." Killian insisted.
"You'll have to refresh my memory. Love You see, I just spent the last four years erasing your existence from my brain."
"Fair enough. Rum and coke." Killian said.
Lyric rolled her eyes and made his drink.
"So.. hows life?" Killian asked.
Lyric slid his drink to him. "10 bucks."
"The sign says 5." Killian argued.
"Ah. Yes, but I add an idiot tax when I get asked stupid questions."
Killian glared and pulled out his wallet and handed her a 10.
"Seriously though.. I figured by now you'd be just finishing your program with Juilliard not mixing drinks."
"Well, I quit school two years ago. My scholarship got dropped somehow and getting a mixology license was much cheaper than a 200k tuition." Lyric shrugged.
"I'm.. sorry." Killian said and put his hand on hers. Lyrics entire soul was set on fire at his touch.
Ruby walked over to the bar.
"Can.. you cover for me?" Lyric asked. "I'll be back."
"Yeah sure." Ruby said and nodded. Lyric pulled her hand away from Killian's and hurried off to the bathroom.
"Ruby.." Killian greeted.
"I like the emo bangs Jones." Ruby grinned.
"Right.." Killian sighed and stood up walking off into the direction Lyric went and looked at the bathroom knowing somehow thats where she was.

Lyric was trying to breathe.
No Lyric, you can't let him do this to you. Not again.
Her eyes welled with tears. She had moved past this. Killian Jones did not exist until suddenly he did. He was here and everything she had worked on was about to implode.
Someone pounded on the bathroom door hard enough to make it shake. Lyric slammed the side of her fist into the door in response.
The knocking only got louder. Lyric turned around and pulled the door open
"How about you just fuck o-" She started to say but she was pushed into the bathroom and then pushed against the door and then Killians lips were on hers igniting those long forgotten feelings and effectively turning her brain into mush. She could feel the tingle from the spiced rum still on his lips.
Lyrics phone rang in her back pocket but she was ignoring it.
"I've missed you. So fucking. Much." Killian said as he placed open mouth kisses along her jaw line up to her ear nipping at her earlobe before pulling away and crashing his lips back into hers. Lyric tangled her fingers in his dark locks bringing him closer.
Her phone started ringing again. She sighed and pulled away and pulled it out of her pocket looking at the ID it was Tink. She put the phone up to her ear answering it.
"Hey." She mumbled trying to bite back a moan as Killian trailed his lips down her neck and to her collarbone.
"Lyric, something is wrong. You have to meet us at the hospital. Its Sym."
And just like that, Lyrics out of body experience was over and she had come to her senses. She pushed Killian off of her.
"Wait. What? What hospital? What's wrong?!" Lyric asked panicking.
"Bellevue I'll explain when you get here. Just hurry."
Lyric hung up the phone and shoved it in her pocket.
"What's wrong?" Killian asked. "Everyone okay?"
"No. Just.. no I have to go."
"Let me drive you. You..are too upset to drive Lyric what is wrong?"
"No! Okay. Just.. stop." Lyric shook her head and walked out of the bathroom
"I just want to help!" Killian said following her.
Lyric turned around.
"You want to help? Stay the fuck away from me." Lyric said and turned back around walking away from him.
