Chapter 8
"I think I hate her father more thooough." Felix is somewhat drunk right now. He can speak clearly but he's slurring on his words at the end of his sentences. At least you're able to understand him.
"Why is that?" You're nursing on your first beer since after all, you have to make sure Felix gets back to the castle safely. You can't be drunk. That would be so irresponsible!
He turns quiet and you know his mind is trying to process his answer. "He's meeeaaannn!"
Ah, what an insult from a prince. You stifle a laugh. "Is that so?"
A nod from Felix confirms it. "Yes! Every time, he alwaaaayyss," He pauses to take another gulp. "Tries to push his daughter for me! And is mean to everyone below hiiiiimmm!"
Drunk Felix was a little talkative.
You're not sure what to say but smile and nod. After all, you're just a drinking buddy and all you have to do is listen.
"He's so mean, isn't heeeee?" Felix knocks down the rest of his beer. At this point, he's already drunk about three glasses and they were filled to the top. You think it's the best idea to have him stop for now and get him back to the castle.
"Felix, do you think it's time for you to return?" You ask.
His glossy eyes stare at you for a moment. "Oh I forrrgooott!" He chuckles to himself. "Yes! Let us ggooooo!" He stands up in a swift motion that makes him hit his knee against the table. Though fortunately, he's drunk and doesn't react to any pain what-so-ever. Thankfully, Felix paid ahead of time before his drinking as you weren't sure what you would have done if he didn't.
Surprisingly, he's a bit stable, walking confidently down the rows of tables and finally reaches outside. Once he gets outside, he pauses for a moment as the night air slaps him in the face compared to the stale air inside. He's looking up at the moon and then turns to you. "Look, how pretty the moon isss!"
You agree with him. "Why don't we get back to the castle?"
Felix nods and then you realize something. He's not as stable as when you're going through the outdoors. He almost trips over a stick and a rock at the same time. Although they're not even close. Admitting defeat, you ask for permission to lead him to the castle by dragging him by his arm.
Thankfully, the prince is quite relaxed and lets you lead him all the way to the castle where you face another problem. How the hell are you going to get him back into his room? There's a ladder and the possibility of him falling off. For a moment, you're dumbfounded since it's not like you can walk right in through the front doors. Or maybe the way workers of the castle come through...?
But your answer is invalid as Felix is climbing the ladder.
Your eyes widen in surprise and you hold back a gasp. Uh, okay. You guessed that solves the problem. Hurriedly, you climb up after him and you're watching with fear caught in your throat as Felix looks content as a cat walking back to his room.
By the time you arrive at his window, Felix is standing in the middle of the room, looking for something. You're quick to close the window. "Is there something you need?"
Felix blinks. "My sleeepweaaarrr?"
Oh! You quickly grab them off the back of the chair and hand them to him. Felix then starts to change right then and there. In a surprise move, you turn around, eyes wide. If the Queen had found out, you can kiss your life good-bye. Felix doesn't say anything but drags himself to his bed and flops down on it. You let out the breath you were holding and gather his clothes to be put in the laundry area.
His eyes catch yours and he gives you a sleepy smile. "Thanks for going with meee." You can see exhaustion written across his face, possibly tired from the whole ordeal he's going through.
Perhaps with the aid of the moonlight, Felix looks like a trapped fairy. In this very moment, you decide to try and repay his kindness by becoming someone he can talk to with ease.
"It's no problem, Fourth Prince," You say it since you're in the presence of the castle. "I will be happy to assist you anytime."
At last, Felix is out like a light and you leave his room. As you're walking to the laundry area, your eyes meet Jeongin's who gives you a nod. This was something that you weren't expecting tonight but honestly it seems like Felix is craving for friendship or something.
You're startled awake by the alarm. It's loud and you turn it off quickly. You stretch out your limbs and start getting ready for the day. It's quite normal and honestly nothing eventful happens. There's the usual tension but it's even more pressing as the King and Queen are always talking about the prospective marriage proposals.
So that's always a fun time.
It's when you finally retire for the night and not until a couple of hours have passed that the bell requires you to go up to Felix's room. Once you're there, you're given permission to enter and you see Felix beaming at you.
"Hi Y/N," He greets you and stands up.
You greet him back respectfully. "Is there anything I can assist you with?"
Felix shakes his head. "No, instead I would like to say thank you for being my drinking partner last night and having to take care of me."
"It's no problem at all." You reply. Honestly it wasn't since it seems he's a stable drunk and was able to get back on his own.
He shrugs. "Maybe but I would like to give you a reward."
"A reward?" You ask, dumbfounded.
With a smile, he hands you a small box. Confused, you take it and he urges you to open it. You do so and you bite back the gasp but your mouth drops open. Inside is a small stone. It's a deep green and you're amazed at the color. "I-I can't accept this." You say and honestly you can't.
"Please do so." He insists. "It would be my honor if you did accept..." Then there's a twinkle of playfulness in his eyes. "Or would I have to make it an order?"
"You do not have to," You accept the gift though you feel odd taking such a precious item for a menial task. "Thank you, Fourth Prince."
Now he looks happy that you finally accepted it. When you return to your room, you make sure to carefully place it at the bottom of the bag securely. At first, you thought this was going to be a terrible job, judging by how the maids serving the other royals (mainly the Second Prince and the King and Queen) looked but you find that it's not quite as bad. You smile a little. You see this as a wonderful opportunity now.
Though you must remember to keep the invisible boundary at all times. You're nothing but a lowly maid.
"You're going to decline?" The King's fury is pinned onto Felix who's standing strong and confidently.
Meanwhile you and the other maids are staring at the floor with such intensity and sort of cowering in the corner. How could you not with the intense glare and menace dripping from the King's voice. You won't lie, you're glad that anger is not directed at you but you don't feel bad for Felix who's taking it like a champ.
"I said what I said."
Oh. He's probably going to get himself exiled or something.
"Felix!" The King snaps and stands up from his throne. "Watch your tone! And you've given no reason to decline the proposal!"
"I don't like her so I don't wish to marry into that family." He shrugs nonchalantly which angers the King more. The tension in the room escalates even further if that's possible. Scratch that. It is and you fear for the life of the Fourth Prince.
