Chapter Eight: Return
Draco knew he'd went out on a limb with the dating thing, but was surprised when Harry said he didn't mind either. It was a pleasant surprise, and he couldn't concentrate enough to eat anything, which was fine because he was early and still had plenty of time to eat. Well that's what he thought, until Snape came towards him, at a slow yet long strided walk.
Draco took another sip of his pumpkun juice and he could have sworn that his godfather looked more nervous. When Snape stopped behind him, the two stared at each other, both waiting for the other to speak. Snape cleared his throat, "You and Mr. Potter are to be dismissed from your morning classes, and are to stay in your dorm together. We will send breakfast, go now." Draco had a strange feeling about this, but shrugged it off.
Draco stood up at the same time Harry did, and the two happened to meet gazes. Harry looked just as confused on the situation as Draco, and with a shrug, the two headed for the hall way that lead to their shared dorm. He watched Harry give the table one last glance before speeding up his pace before slowing down when he reach his side.
Harry turned to meet Draco's gaze, his brows furrowed over his blue eyes. "Why are we to report to our room until afternoon?" Draco shrugged, not thinking the question merited a verbal response. Harry frowned, and scratched the back of his head.
Draco glanced him over as they stopped in front of their dorm room portrait. "Were you just checking me out?" Harry asked cheekily, his blue eyes shining vibrantly. Draco scoffed, "Yes." As soon as the word left his mouth he blinked. He could have sworn he meant to say no. Draco's nerves flinched as the earlier bad feeling he had reintroduced itself.
"Oh," Harry replied, pushing his glasses up further. Draco decided to test his slow forming hypothesis. "Harry, ask me a question that I can lie to, please." Harry stared at him, thoughtfully, almost looking at him as if he were deranged; out of his right mind. "Ok? Why do you hate Ron?" Draco thought his answer out carefully, and decided he knew what he was going to say.
He's poor, stupid, and annoying.
"He took your attention away from me." It was just as he suspected, veritaserum. Now that he was certain, he could ask Harry everything, knowing he could only get the truth. Draco uttered their password and the two entered. Draco had been so lost in his thoughts, that he didn't even notice the blush Harry had acquired.
"Harry, did you really grow up with muggles? What were they like?" Harry frowned, "I did, and they were awful." Draco nodded slowly, as if processing this information."Why were they so bad? You don't seem to hate or hold a grudge against any other muggles." Harry nodded. "They beat me, and I wasn't fed. I did all the chores, and lived in a cupboard. But not all muggles are the same."
Harry replied, and then looked shocked, "I didn't mean to tell you that." Draco was fuming, his face red from anger. "They hit you? Have you told anyone? God I knew you were skinny in first year, and Everytime you came back from break you lost weight." Draco tugged at his hair, and paced around the room talking about every detail he noticed about Harry, while Harry watched in silence.
Draco paused his packing to see Harry staring at him wide eyed. "What?" Draco asked finally, Breaking the tense silence between the two. Harry's breath hitched, "I think I'm in love with you." Harry's eyes widened at the same time Draco's did. "Fuck I didn't mean to say that either, I don't know what's gotten into me, please forget I said that."
Draco paused, only long enough to close his gaping mouth, "I think I love you too." Draco watched as Harry's tan cheeks bloomed into a brilliant red color. "How do I come out to the wizarding world? Is gay even okay here?" He asked in a whisper, his voice soft, but filled with doubts and worries.
"Gay marriage is pretty common here actually, can't say your fans will be pleased though."
-
Draco was wrong.
His fans ate it up, cooing all over him, and if anything his fans doubled in size. There were attractive makes surrounding him from every angle, begging for a date, just one. And Draco was livid, he knew jealousy wasn't a good look, so he tried to compose himself, but it wasnt something he was very good at. Draco all but lost it. "Excuse me, move it, you're in my way. Sorry." After trying to work his way through, he realized he was getting no where.
"MOVE OR I'LL HEX YOU ALL!" He shouted finally, watching the crowd part like the guy from muggle book with the red Sea had done, kinda. He walked slowly, watching the eyes of most people that had moved follow him. Harry's back faced him, and he could hear him laughing merrily. Draco shouldn't be so jealous, after all he had no right.
Draco paused when that thought hit him. He had no right. After that, he turned around, ignoring the confused stares that looked at him. Draco suddenly felt alone all over again. A girl stepped in front of him, blocking his path. "I know you weren't just about to leave your man to the wolves." The voice was familiar, and comforting.
He met the gaze of Pansy Parkinson, and good he missed her. His best friend that abandoned him, had finally come back. He hoped she was there to stay. "He's not mine," he grit out, and Pansy wasn't having it. "Potter! Your boyfriend is sad and wants love!" The room stilled at the word boyfriend, and the chatter that was once a scream, was now a deadly silence.
Draco paused and began to wonder, just how did he end up in this mess?
