Chapter 7: Almost Missed Her

During your break you decided to watch some TV in the lounge room instead of going to your room. It just sounded better. Natasha and Clint were there just chatting when you walked in.

"Hey (Y/N)." Clint greeted as you took to the couch adjacent to them and grabbed the remote, turning on the next episode of Supernatural.

"Hey Hawkie." You greet back as you begin to eat your second bowl of strawberries today.

"Loki being annoying or have you managed to shut him up?" Clint asked.

"He's actually been pretty amazing. This morning he said he was sorry for what he had done to New York. I was surprised, but he seemed to genuinely mean it." You answer happily, your wings giddily rippling at the thought.

"You do know that he is the God of Mischief, right (Y/N)? For all you know, he could be lying." Clint shot back.

"I don't think he is. I trust him enough to believe it. He's changed since you last saw him." You defend.

Clint scoffed in disbelief at what you had said. He didn't think that anyone as 'evil' as Loki could ever change, no matter what happened or what was done to him.

"Do you really think he's changed (Y/N)?" Natasha spoke up.

"Yeah, I do." You say, "He's not nearly as rude anymore, he doesn't try to hurt me emotionally or mentally, he can't physically, he doesn't get snarky when you talk to him, and he doesn't talk down the human race. Earlier he even said that he recognized that each person is different and that we aren't all dull creatures with no purpose." You finished, looking happily to the two on the love seat.

"Wow. That's... that's amazing (Y/N). What have you done to him in there to get him to say that?" Nat said, impressed by what you had said.

"I just talked to him," you contemplated going on. Clint had gotten up to get a snack so he wouldn't hear you, and you knew Nat could keep a secret, so you went on, " I was actually thinking about asking him to join-"

You were cut off by Thor's voice yelling through the halls.

"Lady (Y/N)!" He bellowed worriedly. When he came into view he had a terrified expression on his face and sweat was falling down his forehead.

"What's wrong Thor?" You ask quickly and worriedly, as he grabs your arm and pulls you up towards Loki's cell.

"It's my brother, Loki. I think something's wrong. I was only talking to him about how he had grown fond of you and how he was lucky to get to know you and we started talking about your past missions because he wanted to know more about you and your personality, when I brought up that one mission where you almost died because you had been stabbed in the gut by a HYDRA agent and the fact that he almost never would have met you and he froze and fell to the ground and backed against a wall and brought his knees to his face. He won't respond to me and he keeps muttering your name." Thor finished his rambling right as you got to the door.

When you entered, tears almost fell from your eyes and you brought a hand to cover your agape mouth. Your wings immediately dropped at the sight of your green and gold friend curled up on the floor of the cell, rocking back and forth, mumbling your name quietly wile tears fell from his eyes onto his perfect face.

You ran right up to the glass and crouched down, trying to get Loki to notice you.

He didn't.

"Thor, I need to get in there. I think he's having either a panic attack or an anxiety attack. They are somewhat common, but they're dangerous. He won't notice me from out here. I can't help him from here." You gave Thor a pleading look.

Thor looked at you with concern. He was worried about his best friend being in his formerly-extremely-dangerous brother's cell. He was just worried about your safety.

"I don't think Fury would approve. What if Loki hurts you while you're in there? What if he lashes out and you're caught in the midst of it? What if-"

You interrupted Thor with a force in your voice you didn't know you had until now.

"Thor!" Thor stopped talking, surprised by your outburst, "This could become a life or death situation if you don't let me help. He's worried, he's scared, his breathing is far from regular and he is living his worst nightmares in his head right now. He thinks they're reality and he's terrified. Let. Me. Help." You command.

Thor seems to realize the danger of the situation and shows you how to get into Loki's cell. You enter the cell, folding your wings completely flat against your back to make yourself smaller and less intimidating.

You slowly make your way to Loki so as to not startle him, and you gently sit next to his shaking and rocking form. You're not too close, in case he moves suddenly or violently, but close enough for him to reach out to you if he wants you.

"Hey, Loki," you softly speak to help calm him down,"it's alright buddy. It's me, (Y/N), I'm here for you."

Loki doesn't seem to respond, so you go to your next tactic.

You gently grab his hand from around his legs and rub soft circles into the skin on the back of his palm. You cautiously move a little closer and set his hand in your lap, one hand still rubbing it softly as your other finds it's way to the back of Loki's shoulder, rubbing there to soothe him.

Loki blinks a couple times before slowly looking over to you.

"(Y/N)?" Loki questions quietly. His voice is nothing more than a strained whisper as he looks back at you. Your wings relaxed once he said your name. You hadn't even realized they were tense.

"Yeah buddy, its me. It's (Y/N). I'm here for you." You spoke in a gentle, hushed voice, smiling at him.

Once Loki realized that it was you, he slowly reached his shaking arms out to wrap around your waist and pull you closer. He leaned forward off of the wall to lay his head on your shoulder, and you wrapped a wing softly around him.

"Is this alright buddy?" You ask to make sure your wing was okay where it was. Loki nodded in response as he tightened his grip and hugged you closer, "Okay, that's good. Hey, I need you start breathing a bit slower, okay?"

You placed a hand on his chest to convey what you meant.

"Come on, in... and out... and in..." you continued for a while until his breathing was regular again and he could speak properly. He had stopped shaking, and nuzzled closer into your warm, comforting wing.

"Do you wanna try to stand?" You asked in a more normal tone of voice, but still a little soft in case he was still uneasy.

"Yeah." Loki replied as he used your shoulder to push himself up. You kept your wing around his back in case he fell backwards and you let him keep his hold on your waist. Once he was steady, you slowly walked him over to his bed and let him sit on it.

"Thank you (Y/N)." Loki said as he reluctantly let go of you and you retracted your wing.

"It's not a problem Loki. You're my friend and that's what I'm here for. To help you." You say with a smile as you turn to leave his cell.

"(Y/N)?" Loki calls out before you reach the door.

"Yes Loki?"

"You won't tell any of the others about this will you?"

"No Loki, not if you don't want me to."

"Thank You."

When you exit the cell Thor, who has been standing outside the cell the entire time, gives you a speechless look of shock. The look on his face saying what he was thinking.

"How did you learn to do that Lady (Y/N)?" Thor asked, awestruck.

"Before I was an Avenger, while working on my degrees, I was trained as a therapist and I helped many people who had attacks like that." You concluded simply, walking back to your chair and taking a seat.

"Ah. Interesting. You're shift hasn't quite rolled around yet Lady (Y/N), you still have some time to talk with the others and finish your earlier conversation." Thor suggested, still feeling a little guilty about breaking up your conversation.

"That's okay Thor, I would rather stay with him to make sure he's okay. You go take what's left of my free time off." You say kindly, motioning with a wing to the door.

"Thank you Lady (Y/N). You're far too kind for your own good." Thor says as you stand to offer him a hug.

Thor gladly hugs you, both holing each other tight for a second before letting go.

"So I've been told." You say.

Thor walks to the door and right before he opens it you yell back to him.

"And Thor, thanks for letting me know about Loki!"

"I'm glad I did!" Thor replies in his booming voice.

With that Thor leaves and you train your eyes on the Norse god in the cell, who is peacefully napping away.

Hey Y'all! It's me! It's been a while since this chapter was published and I wanted to clear something up.

The way that I wrote this, Loki's panic attack is triggered by Thor saying that you almost died. This you know, but he's not so much bothered by the fact that he never would have met you (of course be now he's likes you a little so that's a veeeeeerrrrrrry small part), but it's more that Thor saying that reminded him of is mother and how she wasn't saved when she could have been. Memories would have flooded in about Frigga and the rest of his family and being a Jotun that he would have been overwhelmed.

I hope this cleared a couple things up.

Much Love
