We finally decide that maybe the werewolf territory is off the table and the vampire territory although safe, is predictable and would make it easier for that psychopath, who ever he is, to find me.
So, we finally decided to disguise ourselves and blend in in order to hide in the human world. We thought that it would be the last place that bastard would look for me. We also decide to take a sleeping Javier with me since Casper will be to busy cleaning my tracks to take care of him.
It's been a few days since then and Noel and I are finally comfortable in the small cottage almost isolated from the rest of the human world in a small town.
"I've just got of the phone with Alia. She wants to know where we are."
"Did you tell her?" I ask as he sits on the couch and leans back closing his eyes.
"No. The less people know, the better." he says and after a while, he continues, "I don't want to put her in danger and she understands that it needs to be done."
"You could've stayed with your mate you know. She's pregnant."
He opens one eye to peek at me, "She's not the one whose life is in danger."
"I know but she's pregnant. She'll needs you more than I do."
"Someone needs to stay with you while Casper finds a way to clean up this mess."
"Do you really hate Casper?"
"Not really, but he keeps letting you do dumb things even when you're it puts you in danger. The last thing I want, is you hurt."
"I'm sure he wants that too."
"Doesn't seem like it." He mutters.
"How did all this—" He waves his hand around, "—happen?"
"I honestly don't know."
"The ones suffering the most are these innocent kids." He shudders.
"He has to be a monster if he's okay with hurting kids."
"When I find him, I'm going to beat him to a pulp for even thinking of trying to hurt you."
"I really hate this." I let out a small breath and rub my shoulders, "I want you all to meet Maxine when this is over and hopefully have her be a permanent fixture in our family."
Noel stays silent for a while before he speaks, "I can't believe we have an elder sister." He sounds like he's in disbelief.
"You two would get along well I just know it." Noel throws a scarf to me and I wrap it around myself, "I just wish I could call and tell her that I'm okay. I'm sure news have spread that I'm wanted by now and she's worried about me."
We stay in silence for a while and my stomach lets out a growl.
"Are you hungry?"
"Not really"
He starts getting up from the couch. He's already large enough in this small living room but he seems larger as he squeezes behind the armchair to reach for his coat.
"I'm not all that hungry, you don't have to go buy food."
"Don't worry, I don't mind." He puts on his coat and looks out the window. "It's not that late, I'm just going to the nearby store. I'll be back before it gets darker."
He gives a mock salute and walks out the door.
I sit still for a few seconds not knowing what to do and I finally decide to try it again. For the past three day that we've been here, I've been trying to find a way to save Javier from the deep sleep state.
I finally found a method that might work but executing it seems difficult. I lock the front door before I go into my room where Javier is laying in the middle of the bed and get the herbs to mix the potion that I need.
Carefully, I tip his head back and have him swallow the mixture making sure it doesn't go down the wrong hole and when I'm sure that he has swallowed the right dose properly, i take my portion and lay beside him.
This time I take a little something and stuff it in my pocket hoping that it will bring a positive result as I grab his hand and close my eyes waiting for sleep to consume me.
I open my eyes to the grounds that I've come to familiarize myself with over and over again when I come here. I try not to panic at how foggy it is. It definitely not as dense as Natalie's but if I don't hurry up, it might become worse.
Pushing my way through the fog, I make my way to the house meeting the familiar scene of Casper talking to Adrianna and I walk pass not bothering because they cannot see me.
I rush up the stairs and into the room where Adrianna was torn apart and kneel to the ground beside the bed. I look under the bed and see current Javier who is trapped there rewatching the whole scene over and over again.
"Mommy's here. You can come out now."
His lips quiver when he sees me, "can I really?"
I nod and stretch out my hand which he takes and I pull him out. I pull him to a corner and hug him as he buries his head in the crook of my neck.
"I don't like it here." He sobs and I feel his tears.
"It's okay. I promise I'll get you out of here." I rub his back in soothing circles and wait for him to calm down.
Just then Adrianna runs into the room and shuts the door behind. I don't wait for the scene to continue playing out and I dig out the little powder I stuffed in my pocket.
"Here javi, inhale this."
"Will it work?"
"We won't know until we try," With shaky hands, I hold the powder substance to his nose and he inhales.
He immediately starts to cough and I pat his back. "It's okay honey just breathe."
"It burns a bit."
"I know but just endure it okay."
I hug him tight as the scene when the shadows start to rip Adrianna apart starts playing. I rub his back soothingly and whisper comforting things in his eyes hoping to drown out the screams of Adrianna.
After a while, he goes limp in my arms and I check on him. He's sleeping. Could it have worked?
I pull myself forcefully from the deep sleep dream and immediate open my eyes. I sit up and turn to Javier who is still sleeping.
"Javier?" I say hopefully as I try to shake him awake.
I call his name for a while and try to wake him up but he doesn't bulge. Tears burn the back of my eyes as i sigh in disappointment and frustration.I'm about the leave the room when I hear him groan.
"Javier?"
He groans some more and slowly, his eyes flutter open, "mommy?" His voice sounds hoarse and croaky.
"Shh don't speak." I stand up and rush to get a cup of water for him.
I leave the room shutting the door behind and stop in my tracks. I may not have seen his face in my dreams but I feel the familiar sinister aura around him and a chill run down my line.
It's definitely that bastard.
"You've all made this so easy for me." He says and there's no mistaking it, it's the voice of the man I see in my dreams.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
He ignores my question, "I see you've been able to wake javier up." He mocks a dramatic sigh, "I was hoping to wait a while but this just unnecessarily speeds up the plan."
"Stay away from us." I say and rush into the room and lock the door with a click.
"Mommy what's wrong?"
"Shh, everything is going to be okay." I grab a small dagger that laced with crushed, mixed, deadly herbs that dakota and I had been working on and tuck it into my boots before I pick Javier in my arms and open the window
"I won't be responsible for what happens next Luna. Surrender both yourself and Javier to me and you won't get hurt."
It doesn't even take some seconds before the door gets blown back. My eyes widen as I see huge shadows make their way into the room.
The bastard and I make eye contact before I jump out the window. I struggle to find my footing after the fall and a push immediately throws me back
I groan as I make contact with the thick wall and Javier falls a few feet away from me. I hear a loud crack from Javier's direction and then I hear him moan out in pain.
"Fuck. Please stop." I yell. "Stay away from him."
I try to get up from my position but I can't so I resort to crawling. I slowly make my way to Javier but the shadow is faster and I start to beg. I sob in relief as I see Noel rushing towards the shadow with the white convince store bag a few feet's away from him.
The shadow doesn't make it way to Javier before Noel throws the it back. He picks up Javier and rushes to me.
"More are coming. I'll fight them off but you drive as fast you can and take both you and Javier to safety."
"What about—"
"I'll be alright but right now, Javier is your top priority."
He assists me up and hands Javier to me. I hold him up with the one arm that has already healed. He then gives me the car key before pushes me, "take the car and go."
I try to convince him to come with me and I see the shadows, they're over fifty of them. "Noel no you can't."
"Do you not listen to me? Even if you don't care about your life, save Javier's. I can handle this so go."
I put Javier in the passenger seat and turn back to see noel turning into his big brown wolf before I turn forward and enter the car to drive off.
