After my conversation with mason, I decide that I need all the answers I need. We have some sort of lead now and we can figure out the rest if we join heads together.

Casper and I return home to see Noel waiting for us. He rushes towards us and I think that he's about to hug me—that is until he punches Casper right in the face.

"What the hell were you thinking?" He screams at Casper.

"Noel what the actual fuck?"

I try to push him as he takes another swing at Casper. Casper doesn't try to fight back, he just wipes his blood stained nose.

"You fucking bastard. I shouldn't have let you near my sister. Now she's involved in all this bullshit."

"Noel," I say and he finally looks at me. He takes my face in his hands, "are you okay ody?"

I shrug them off, "what the hell do you thinking you're doing to my mate?"

"This bastard here is always putting you in danger. It's only a matter of time before he makes a decision that gets you killed." He roars at Casper above my head.

"What the hell are you saying?" He tries to come at Casper again and this time, with the help of victor, I manage to stop him.

"First, you let her mingle with vampires—"

"I told you that it was okay Noel. The vampire king promised to pr—"

"What if the vampire king wasn't able to protect you?" He shouts, "just because the vampire king is accepting of your presence doesn't mean that the others appreciate that. Someone could have seriously hurt you"

He looks at Casper again, "and then you let her see the bastard that almost killed her. I thought you'd have more sense than that."

"She said that it was fine and I trust my mate." Casper spits back at him.

"And what if you all were wrong? What if something actually does hurt her? And now I hear from your beta that she's wanted by a psycho that we know nothing about."

"Calm down Noel."

"How the fuck can I calm down when you keep putting yourself in trouble." He lowers his voice, "I don't want anything to happen to you okay? This is the least safe you've been in a while and I'm scared for you."

"I understand your concern but you need to trust me on this one." I try to convince him and I see him physically calm down.

"The man who we're looking for was working with alexa's father," I blurt out. They all turn to look at me, "At least that's what mason told me."

"Do you really believe that bastard?"

I glare at Noel, "I do. I just have a feeling that he's telling the truth."

"Did you just say my father?", Alexa asks.

"Yes."

"I don't understand. My father has been dead for the past two year. How can this be possible?"

"I was honestly hoping that you'd have some answers."

Victor sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose,"Doesn't this seem like mason lying? I don't believe him."

"Me neither." Noel agrees.

She sits on the couch and buries her head in her hands, "I don't get it. How could he that? Isn't Natalie his granddaughter. Why would he want to hurt her."

"Mason told me that he has never truly cared for family. I think he got married to your mother just to have you as a vessel."

"Then why couldn't they use me instead?"

"You're marked already. Not from Mason but most probably as a child."

"What do you mean 'as a child'?" Casper asks and I keep shut to allow Alexa speak.

Noel sighs and presses a hand to his forehead, "Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on here?"

Everyone looks at Alexa and she shrinks back into the couch, "My mate was a vampire." She confesses, "Vampire mates are very different from ours. A vampire is usually born with half of a mark and spend their whole lives looking for the person with the other half. Since my mate was a vampire, I already had the mark from birth."

"Which means that your soul was already touched and your father couldn't use it."

"But all I really want to know is why he did this." She looks genuinely confused and hurt, "what did he gain from it?"

Casper's phone rings and leans towards me, "I have to take this call." He whispers before he leaves for privacy.

"What if mason is lying." Isabella says as Casper leaves the room, "maybe he's saying all these to throw us of a path or maybe there is no connection between these two."

"There is a possibility of that but this is our main lead and we can't abandon it." I turn to look at Alexa who has a tired look on her face, "did he ever seem off to you growing up?"

"Not really. He was always a distant father but he wasn't all that bad. My mother killed her self and I never thought anything of it but maybe she knew something about him."

"Mason also told me that he really insisted that he mate with you."

"Yeah, i found it weird how he kept on urging that I accept mason as my mate and now that I think about it, the circumstances surrounding his death seemed weird." Her brows furrows as if she's trying to remember something else.

"How weird?"

"There was no body and I was told that he drowned."

"Also, didn't—"

Casper rushes into the room cutting Victor's sentence short, "Odetta there's something wrong"

"There's always something wrong lately." Noel complains.

"I just got off the phone and—" He pauses and sighs, "—mason is dead."

I hear Isabella gasp and Alexa's eyes widen with shock. An expression of shock makes it's way unto everyone's faces.

"What the hell? I just spoke to him."

"That's a problem, you just spoke to him. You were the last person to speak to him and it seems like you're a suspect now."

"Great, so now she's a suspect and her life is in danger." Noel takes hold of my hand, "Odetta we have to leave and find a way to keep you safe."

I pull away from his grasp and turn to look at Alexa, "Alexa believe me when I say that I didn't do it."

She looks conflicted, "I-I trust that you didn't but it just seems weirdly strange and convenient."

"I think that confirms that Mason told the truth. Doesn't it seem weird that he just dies after telling you a whole bunch of important information." Victor tells me.

"And maybe they did this to shift the blame onto you."

Victor turns to look at Casper,"Were you told how he died?"

"Apparently there was no blood or injury, they just found him slumped in his cell." He sighs, "and she's more of a suspect since as the practicing oracle, they think she has access to herbs and shit that could kill him."

"So will they be coming for odetta now?"

"No way in hell," Noel threatens and jabs casper's chest, "I don't know how you'll do it but you steer them clear from odetta and fix this mess."

There's a moment of tension as the two alpha have a show down and it become suffocating. I almost step in when it seems that neither of them would back down and this could become something ugly but Noel tsks and steps back, "I'm not here to cause trouble for you odetta but I'm not going to sit by and let this happen."

"Your brother is right.", Alexa agrees, "if you go into the elders custody, who knows how long you'll be held there and we're running out of time. For our kids and to find the man doing all this."

"So what do we do now?"

"We have to hide Odetta."

"Are you crazy? Where do we even hide her? If the elder council realizes that odetta is running away, it might make things complicated." Isabella explains, looking at us with wide eyes.

"What do you think we should do Casper?"

He sighs and rubs his temple, "I have to agree with Noel on this one."

"Casper" Victor exclaims.

"I know it's not the best of decisions but she might be held for months. During that time, Natalie and Javier might fall into worse conditions and if someone was able to hurt mason in his cell, the same thing could be done for odetta. I might be able to stall them for a some time while we try to sort this whole mess in the background and hopeful get evidence that clears odetta's name."

There's silence for a while before Noel speaks up, "so where do we hide her now?"
