I wake up with a startled gasp and press my hand to my cheek. There's silent tears running down my cheek and casper runs to my side.
He holds me close as I break down into a sob on his shoulder.
"Is Javier going to be okay? Is something wrong with our son?"
I don't seem to find my voice, I open my mouth to try and reply his questions but only sobs come out.
He hugs me tighter softly stroking my hair and murmuring words of consolation. When I feel better, I pull back and take his face in my hands.
I stroke his cheek with my thumbs and give him a forlorn smile, I don't know if it will be a good idea to tell him about Adrianna. I don't know how to tell me that she suffered unimaginable pain before she died.
I lean into him so we're touching foreheads and I look into his eyes, "Javier is okay for now. I don't know how long till he reaches a terrible state." Casper sighs in relief.
"I keep speaking to a man who I believe is behind all this." They all look at me in confusion and I continue, "I speak to him in my dreams."
"Who is it then?" Isabella asks.
I shake my head, "I don't know. I've never seen him before and it's dark whenever we speak. I spoke to him yesterday and it seems like he's also after me."
"The vampire king and I have reason to believe that the person behind this all is just a normal human who must have been wronged or harmed by a supernatural and is now out for revenge."
I tell them everything about the man. How he wants to eradicate all supernatural creatures. How his plans tie in with the children descended from powerful supernatural lines. How the creatures feed on the soul of the children he goes after.
"There's no way a normal human is powerful enough to be able to summon a whole race of creatures and know exactly which children from which descendant to take the lives of."
I look at victor, replying to his comment, "It's possible. They might have dabbled with something powerful or they must be getting help from somewhere. It's possible he isn't working alone."
"So, if you're right about this, how do we find the human then? They're so many out there and how do we find him without exposing our existence?"
"I-don-I don't know." I put my head in my hands as Casper rubs my back in comforting circles.
"Can you all get off her back. She's doing enough already." He snaps at them.
I try to rack my brain for a solution or just anything at all. Sebastian is right, how do we actually find the human we don't even have any piece of information on?
The air is tense and I'm sure everyone is just frustrated and tired. There's no way we can start anything without a solution or picking up a lead. Then I finally remember.
"What about Mason?"
Again, for the second time today, I'm met with looks of confusion. My head hurts as I continue to speak, grasping at straws—hoping to find something to latch onto.
"I spoke to him in prison sometime last year."
"How did you manage to do that?"
"Not physically but I did see him with the help of Dakota and—" I sit up and snap my fingers trying to remember what he said "—I think he said something about coming to kill me because someone wants me dead."
They all start to see where I'm coming from, "What if the incident that happened at the SAG is somehow related to this and can help us find a a clue about what the hell is going on and who is behind all this."
I look at them and they all look deep in thought, "You're definitely onto something but are we sure about this?" Casper says.
"It's definitely a start. This is our only choice now." Alexa says.
"Do you think that the elders will let me speak to mason immediately?"
Casper frowns, "I don't like the idea of you speaking to Mason one bit but if I have Martin put in an urgent request tonight, we might have a reply before tomorrow morning."
I look at Alexa who is nervously playing with her fingers, "Is this really okay with you?"
She nods.
"I don't really care. As long as we get to save our children at the end of the day, then I don't really see a problem."
"And what do we do if this is a dead end?" Isabella asks and stands up from her spot in the chair. She stretches and victor rushes to her side.
I take Javier's hand in mine, "We keep looking. Nothing is going to happen to Javier and my family ever again, not if I can help it."
Casper and I are laying in bed later that night as I contemplate telling him what about Adrianna's death.
"Odetta?", he asks breaking the silence first.
"Hmm."
There's silence at first and then he speaks, "I am so sorry."
I look up at him to see him giving me a dejected look with tears in his eyes.
"You told me to take care of Javier while you were gone and—and," He closes his eyes, "It's all my fault, I've failed you once again. Please forgive me."
I kiss his jawline and hug him tight, "You are not at fault. No one is. Not me and most definitely not you. We're going to find the bastard who did this and make him pay."
He takes a hold of my hand, intertwining our fingers and gives it a squeeze, "Will everything be okay?"
"It will. Javier will wake up and we can go back to how we once were."
Silence descends on us again and this time, I'm the one who decides to break it.
"Casper I have to tell you something."
"Is something wrong?"
I take a deep breath and try to correctly phrase my sentence wondering how I come about approaching this, "It's about Adrianna."
He stills beside me and after a few seconds, he sits up and I follow suit.
"What about her?"
"I—um—I saw how she—how she died."
He looks at me in confusion, "When I went into Javier's subconscious, I saw what happened the day she disappeared.
He buries his head in his hands and struggles to get the next words out, "how-how die she disappear?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"Yes." He doesn't hesitate.
"I don't think I could get into detail but she suffered Casper. I saw the shadows tear her apart limb by limb and finally take her mangled body away."
"Was she alive all through the whole ordeal?"
I flinch when I remember her agonizing screams. He doesn't say anything for a while, then , I see his shoulder shaking.
"I make an incompetent mate and father. I let my mate die and I can't even protect my son either. I can't believe she went through that."
"No you're not. Trust me. She was a strong woman. She didn't surrender to them." I say to reassure him as I hold him tight as he cries.
