chapter 16
•••
I fold my clothes into a suitcase for the second time in two months. I zip up the suitcase this time with less hesitation and struggle to drag them out of my room.
Casper looks at me struggling and his lips quirk up. Of course he smiles when he sees me struggling. That little bitch.
"I will haul my suitcases back to my room and cancel this trip if you're going to be like this."
He looks at me and the big suitcases before chuckling, "you're struggling with them." He states and for some strange reason, I actually think that he'll help me, "I'd like to see you take them back." He simply says and leaves the room.
"Fucker." I mutter and walk around the apartment switching off all electrical appliances and checking if I'm forgetting anything. I don't want to come home to a burnt apartment.
When I'm done, I drag my suitcase out of the apartment and lock the door behind me.
"Let me help you with that."
I shake my head at Sebastian, "I can do it."
"I don't mind, I didn't pack much."
I look at the black bag he has over his shoulder but I still shake my head.
"It's no problem really."
"Oh fucking hell." Alpha Casper exclaims and he grabs my suitcases and steps into the elevator. He holds them like they weigh nothing.
"Hurry the fuck up." He growls.
I roll my eyes as Sebastian and I step into the elevator. The elevator ride is silent except for the soft music playing so I hum along with it.
"Can you stop that? The elevator already has a sound system, It doesn't need you." Alpha Casper snaps.
This man is getting on my nerves, I wonder how I'd survive the rest of summer with him. I ignore him and continue humming. I resist the urge to smirk at his annoyance and Sebastian tries and fails to hide his amusement. It's easy to rile him up.
The elevator dings opens and Sebastian steps out. As I'm about to step out, Alpha Casper yanks me back.
"Remember that I'm an Alpha odetta." He tells me, his voice deepening. I realize that he's using his Alpha voice with me and if my wolf was present, she might've reacted.
I scoff and try to tug my arm from his not so tight grip but he doesn't bulge. "One, I'm not in your pack so your alpha tone shit can't fucking work for me on me and two, Remember that I'm the daughter of an Alpha, I also don't do well with disrespect."
He releases his grip on my arm and I glare at him before giving the receptionist my keys.
"Did you return your key?" I remind Sebastian as he puts his bag in the trunk as Alpha Casper's driver puts mine in too.
Alpha Casper and I sit in the back seat while Sebastian sits in the passenger seat. I glance at him to see that he is on his phone and a huge stack of files sitting beside him. I don't even try to peek at what the file says and mind my own fucking business.
After thirty minutes, we arrive at the private hangar that were his private jet is waiting for us. We go in and I sit as far away from alpha Casper as I can with Sebastian beside me.
"what's the tea between you and alpha Casper?" Sebastian chuckles.
I spare a glance at Alpha Casper. He doesn't react like he's listening but I know he can hear us. I raise my eyebrow at Sebastian, "Tea? Are you fucking kidding me? How old are you?"
"I turned twenty eight last month."
"Last month? You could've said something. We didn't celebrate it."
"It's not a big deal." He says sheepishly and scratches the back of his head.
"It is to me." I smack his arm and he rubs it like it hurt, "That would've been a good excuse to get piss drunk at a club or something."
"You know I wouldn't do that. I'm here to protect you. That also includes you and your poor decisions."
"Fuck off." I smile and smack his arm again.
"So you and alpha Casper." He reminds me.
I sigh, "It's nothing much except the fact that he really gets on my nerves and hates my guts. I hate to say it but the feeling is mutual."
"You two are going to have to suck it up sooner or later."
"I pick later." I say and settle into the plush seat. He does the same and shut his eyes.
"How long are we staying?"
I shrug, "who knows?"
"I'm going to sleep. I have a few hours to do what i want. I don't need to protect you here." He says.
"Who know, maybe we'll murder each other while you sleep."
"Don't be dramatic."
Sebastian falls asleep almost immediately and I pass the six hours away, watching random movies. I get bored of watching movies I have no motivation to understand or pay attention to so I turned to watching alpha Casper. He didn't sleep once through out the trip—he was so focused on the files beside him and when he did mistakenly doze off, it wasn't even up to five minutes. He didn't even eat when the air hostess brought food for us three while I wolfed down mine and half of Sebastian's.
"Finally." I stretch and buckle my seat belt as the air hostess gives the speech before we land. I wake Sebastian up and he grudgingly buckles his seat belt and goes back to sleep.
When we land, I wake Sebastian up again and we step out of the Jet after Alpha Casper. There's already a sleek porsche waiting for us. We wait for the driver to put our bags in the trunk and step into the car.
My ring tone blares. I shrill tone that pierces through the silence in the car. I scramble for my phone. Tucked away in my purse and give Alpha Casper an apologetic smile as I answer the call but he scowls at me.
I ignore him and put the phone to my ear, "You didn't tell me you were going to the capital."
"It was a last minute decision."
"Are you running away again. Did something happen?" He asks.
"No, it's not that. I just wanted to see Javier. You remember him right? Alpha Casper's son."
"Are you sure about that? His Dad is a stick in the mud." He lowers his voice.
Don't i know.
"Noel you worry too much. You have a pregnant mate and your Alpha duties. I can take care of myself okay? And if it makes you feel better, you'll be the first to know if anything happens."
He sighs, "I know, I know but I just don't trust alpha Casper. And I also don't trust you two not to kill each other."
Alpha Casper let's out a grunt, "You do know that he can hear you."
"I don't fucking care."
"I don't tolerate disrespect."
"I'm not on your land alpha Casper." He snarls through the phone speaker.
I don't want any trouble between them. "How about I call you back when Alia has calmed you down."
"Okay but don't forget to send my greetings to our grandparents, it's been a while. We might visit later in the year."
"I won't forget and I'm sure they'll be happy to see me."
"I'm surprised people other than my son find joy in your company" Alpha Casper murmurs.
I hang up and glare at him, "Are you ever not an A–hole?" I'm starting to regret my impromptu decision to travel several miles away from my home with him.
"Am I?" He smirks. It might've been sexy if he didn't look so proud of himself. I want to wipe that smirk off his face.
"Don't pretend not know what I'm talking about."
He seems to end the conversation there because he doesn't answer me and turns to keep busy with his phone.
"Mother Fucker." I hiss and press my forehead against the window.
I can feel him burn holes at the back of my head and I smile in victory. I knew that would get his attention. I spend the next few minutes counting the big buildings that we pass by. I try to not gape in awe lest Aloha Casper has something to make fun of me about. If i thought the City was big and bustling, the Capital was so much more. The last time I was here was maybe ten years ago. So much has changed.
"What now?" I snap when my phone rings and I see Noel's name as the caller's ID.
"What did I do wrong this time?" Noel laughs.
"You literally just called me a few minutes ago?"
"Well I have something else to say now."
"Spit it out Noel."
"I just wanted to tell you to be safe and I love you."
That definitely is not the reason why. "Are you sure? Is that all?"
"Okay so—" He sighs, "—Alia just kicked me out of the room."
"What did you do this time?"
He gasps and I imagine him pressing a hand daintily against his chest, "what did I do? You can't be serious."
I stay silent and raise my brow at no one in particular. He fesses up, "Okay, okay. She said I was hovering and she kicked me out."
"Sounds like a you problem to me."
"Shouldn't you be comforting me or something?"
"Not my forte. Meet Quinn."
"She and Faye are out and Our parents are doing the devil's tango."
"The devil's tango?"
"I know right. At their age. And they're not subtle or quiet about it."
I feel him shiver in disgust, "I'm fucking traumatized."
"Look, I can't play therapist right now with you. Just suck it up."
I hang up.
"Is he always like that?" I can hear a smile in Alpha Casper's voice. He's still looking down at his phone.
"He is always like that. He was worse when we were teenagers. I don't know who suffers more between Alia and I." I groan.
We sit in relative silence for a while as the tall skyscrapers and buildings of the city fade to tall trees and woodland. He glances up and nods at something out the window. I squint my eyes and can't see anything but a dot. As we get closer, the dot slowly becomes a small house in a distance.
"I'm sure Javier will be happy to see you."
