chapter 15

•••

"For the last time Mum, I'm okay." I resist the urge to roll my eyes.

"Are you sure you don't want us to come over?" Mum asks.

"Mum she said she's okay. Let her be." Faye says in the background.

I laugh, "Alia and Quinn already came over yesterday with a bunch of junk food and we talked so I'm pretty sure I'm alright. You can ask them if you want to be sure."

"And Sebastian?"

"He is doing a good job of protecting me. One month and three days no harm." I've been counting

"Okay."  she sighs, "I love you. Please take care of your yourself. Bye." She reluctantly hangs up.

I tuck my phone in the pocket of my jeans and go to my room before putting on sneakers and a throwing on a random top. I pick up my keys.

"Are you ready Sebastian?" I ask as I lock the door to my apartment and turn to the smiling guard.

He nods, "are we going to that place we went to last week?"

"Yes." I sigh and I feel really hungry, "How could we not? they have the best pancakes and acai bowls in the whole universe." I gush.

"Oh I can't wait." he says and we enter the elevator.

Since my parents insisted Sebastian come with me for protection, my days have gotten less boring. This last few years was torture for since I had no friends and cut of from my family. Sebastian has become my only friend for the past month and it feels nice having someone fun around. I tried not to think about my parents paying him to be here at at first but it seems like he does enjoy my company.

We have this weekly Wednesday ritual were a small restaurant, ten minutes from my apartment, have a breakfast special. We've never missed a week. Not once. A sacred event, if i do say so myself. We leave the elevators and head straight out the doors into the busy street.

I lived in the castle surrounded by woods and hardly other people in sight. It was a nice change to come to the city bustling with activity, I might've actually moved for a different reason but the city grew on me.

It takes longer than ten minutes for us to reach the restaurant since Sebastian and I decided to take the longer route. We enter and walk over to the counter, the red haired who served us last week and who I suspected has a crush on Sebastian smiled at us—well more of Sebastian than me.

"Welcome, Should I get you our Wednesday special?" She asks still smiling at Sebastian.

He nods as I let out a yes which I'm sure she doesn't hear and she writes in a notepad before we go to sit in a booth.

"She has a crush on you Sebastian." I tease and he rolls his eyes.

"I'm not here for a relationship, I'm here to protect you."

I scoff and wave his comment off, "You can enjoy yourself you know?"

He groans and pinch the bridge of his nose, "Your parents don't pay me to serenade city girls."

"They also don't pay you to come with me for Wednesday Breakfast, yet here you are."

"It's part of the job." He shrugs and I laugh.

"I highly doubt.'"

"Your father will have my head."

"You just tell him that they're my orders"

"Orders to get into a relationship?"

"Oh come on, don't tell me you haven't thought of it."

He's silent for a while before he murmurs something that I can't hear. I tell him to repeat himself and he looks down at his hands with a blush. "I said, I'm waiting for my mate."

"Oh," I say and my grin widens, "I didn't know you could be so cute." I tease.

He just rolls his eyes at me and looks away.

"What happens when I get a job? Will you still follow me around?"

"It's my Job Miss Odetta."

"The kindergarten called me and I think I'm getting the job. Will you be there scaring the kids?"

"They'd love me." He scoffs like it's the obvious.

Before we can can continue, our food has arrived.

"Here you go." The red haired mutters as she places our food in front of us, "enjoy." She chirps before looking at a very oblivious Sebastian and leaving.

We both had pancakes and acai bowls but mine had different toppings.

"Oh—my—stars." I groan out, "This is so good."

"I know right." Sebastian says as he stuffs his face.

"Javier would have loved this."

Sebastian stops eating and looks at me, "It's been a week, you can stop mourning now."

"He doesn't even call." I whine. "Does he even miss me? I bet it's that Alpha Casper."

"I don't really know or care." He shrugs.

"Isn't it your Job to care? Maybe I'll go to the capital for Christmas." I say.

"No, please don't." Sebastian groans, "I'd have to follow you there."

"Come on the capital is awesome."

"The capital is ten times this city and I'm sure you'd love it. Think of all the food." That seems to convince him a bit.

"Plus my Grandparents live there. I promise, you'll love them."

"You have grandparents?"

"You know—my parents were just created and put in the world like that—awesome isn't it?" I deadpan at him.

"It was just a question."

"Both my grandparents live in the capital. They're neighbors."

I look at my finished plate of pancake and almost finished bowl of acai.

"Can we order some more?"

I shake my head, "We have to exercise self-control. This shit will just get us fat."

"Correction you'll get fat while I'll work out and remain built."

"So? I'm your boss and the answer is no. Let's go."

I pay for both our breakfast after Sebastian and I argue about who pays. He suggests he pays and when i refuse, he suggests we split the bill. I end up paying.

"You live right beside me. Nothing's going to happen." I say when we get back and he tries to keep guard by my apartment door.

"It's my job and I can't let anything happen to you."

I just sigh because I never win this argument and I enter my apartment. I spend the next few hours lounging around in my living room. I can feel faint traces of my wolf and I think going home helped. She's not there completely but i can feel her. I wonder what i should do to get her back. Do i need to talk to Mason? Do i need to just forget about him? What if i do and she doesn't come back?

"What to do, what to do." I mutter to myself after another few hours bored out of my mind. I could just hang out with Sebastian. To catch a movie or something. Maybe draw in the park.

I decide to go to the park and maybe sketch something. I peek my head out the door at Sebastian just leaning against my wall.

Doesn't anyone think he's creepy just standing there?

"Wanna go to the park?"

He shrugs and looks at me, "I guess. We can get something to eat for dinner on our way home later."

I just nod and go into my room, looking to pick out a simple outfit. Something I wouldn't mind getting grass stains.

"Miss Odetta?" I hear Sebastian call out.

I go to the living room and Sebastian is standing there. The door behind him not fully shut. It's quite a sight. This big man in my small, living room. The furniture looks small compared to him.

"You called?"

"There's someone here to see you should I let him in?"

"Who is it? I swear if it's Noel." I hiss.

"It's alpha—" He starts to say but is cut off.

"Casper" Alpha Casper completes as pushes into the room.

I try not to let the shock show on my face, "You can leave Sebastian." I say and he shuts the door leaving Alpha Casper and I alone.

"Why are you here? It's quite late." I look at the clock. It's almost five in the evening.

"Javier misses you." He simply says.

"I don't like you but my son needs you. I'm here to convince you to come with me. Even if it's for a week." He says.

"That doesn't really sound convincing to me." I roll my eyes at him.

"Look odetta, I'm not here to fight with you."

"Sure sounds like it. You could be nicer or maybe you know? Say please."

I narrow my eyes back at him and return his scowl.

"Is he okay?" I finally ask.

He shrugs, "He looks miserable. I don't know how but he seems really attached you. He hasn't been himself since we left."

"So you flew all the way here to convince me? I'm sorry but I can't."

"What do you mean you can't?" He narrows his eyes.

He'd have to do more than scowl and frown to get me to change my mind.

"It means what it means, I can't. Look, don't want to get more attached to Javier . He makes that impossible. I don't think we could part again if i came with you now."

"Don't say that," He raises his voice and I have half the mind to throw him out but I wouldn't want to put Sebastian in a position to disrespect an Alpha of the Capital. "You two are already attached so don't make things harder than it already is. Just come with me."

His voice softens and I look into his eyes, they're pleading to me. I bite my lips and contemplate it. It wouldn't hurt to see him and I do miss Javier.

"Look Odetta—if it's because of me, I can stay out of your way, I'll stop being an asshole. I know we don't like each other but my son likes you and if that means you're going to be around, then I will do better."

I honestly couldn't say anything. He was looking at me with so much hope and I was really still thinking of saying no. I can't just leave. It doesn't work that way. What happens after that one week? Do I just keep coming to make Javier happy? What happens when I find someone for me? Does it stop?

I think he sees hesitation in my eyes because he continues, "Is it because of mason? Do you feel unsafe", He runs his hand through his blond hair "I'll fucking protect you, I'll make sure that fucking bastard doesn't touch you and if he does, I swear I'll kill him. Nothing would ever hurt you when you're with me." He promises as he looks into my eyes this time. My wolf stirs and maybe just maybe, it would be good to go with him.

"I can't really leave Javier all alone, I leave tomorrow morning so I need you to give me an answer now."

I don't think I just talk and I give him my answer.
