Rebuilding From the Ashes
"Six months..." (Y/n) found herself answering honestly. She was quick to cover her mouth, she hadn't meant to answer, in fact, she wanted to stay quiet about the whole thing. Orion gave her a sympathetic smile, knowing that there really wasn't anything he could do.
The table fell into silence and the two are silently... well. At least Orion did. (Y/n) couldn't help but moan at the taste of her food. It had been so long. Orion couldn't help but smile and chuckle at the adorable woman sitting across from him.
"I'd love to take you out all the time, as friends of course. That way you'll be able to save up more to get yourself off the streets at least." Orion said, before indulging back into his food.
(Y/n) suddenly found herself smiling and tears pouring down her face. A sharp gasp followed by a sniffle was quick to catch Orion's attention.
"Thank you..." she muttered in a soft sob. Orion just smiled and continued to eat. The rest of their breakfast was just silence.
When the bill came, (Y/n) refused to look, not wanting to feel anymore guilty than she already did. They were soon back in the truck, (Y/n) well fed and ready to take on the day with a gentle smile. Orion found himself smiling as well, he enjoyed seeing the woman so happy and relaxed.
Soon, they arrived at the bus stop Optimus had originally found her. (Y/n) hopped out with a thank you and a smile and Orion nodded.
"Here. Take this." Orion handed the girl an envelope before closing the door and driving off. (Y/n) looked off in the direction the truck went in complete confusion. She soon went into work and finished getting ready.
(Y/n) worked a long shift. She went between the register to stocking. She didn't particularly care what she was doing, she just didn't like who she was working with. Customers were rude and so were the fellow employees. The first manager she worked with continuously made her clean, the second harassed her because he found her attractive. Unfortunately for them, neither could fire her, due to her being under protections from the boss because she was homeless.
He wasn't all that nice though. It was a publicity stunt and it was one of the best stunts you could pull in a small city like Jasper, Nevada. He had just given her the job under the condition she wouldn't smell and would smile for the news.
(Y/n) was practically falling asleep by the end of her shift. The food had digested and her body was finally relaxed. Now all she had to do was get paid and go to the motel.
Soon, (Y/n) was called to the back and got her check. She went to the bathroom and changed before heading to the bank. At the bank she cashed out the check and counted up all of her money. She soon stuffed it back safely into her bag.
(Y/n) suddenly felt relaxed and mildly content. A smile graced her lips as she made her way to the motel. She thanked Orion despite him not being present. Perhaps things were finally looking up. Maybe soon she could get a higher paying job with benefits and she'll work there until she gets the money from her parents inheritance.
She was happy that she might be able to finally move on with her life. Not to mention, if she gets a higher pay, that means therapy. Oh boy did she need therapy. She had been so close to letting everything loose on Orion, but thankfully the flood gates stayed strong.
Halfway to the motel, (Y/n) remembered the envelope she was given by the friendly gentleman. She removed it from her bag and began to open it as she made her way down the street. Inside, she found a piece of paper and $50.
(Y/n) blinked in shock and surprise and quickly pocketed the money in order to avoid getting robbed. Though it was dark outside, she stopped at a street lamp to read the note.
"I wanted to give you my number in case you ever needed or wanted to contact me. Please message me when you can and please treat yourself to some dinner. ~ Orion."
(Y/n) was taken aback by the neat handwriting and the sincerity contained in the written words. She couldn't help but smile once more as she continued her walk. (Y/n) kept the note nice, not wanting to fold it or ruin it in any way.
She felt touched, her chest and face warm. What she had used to feel all the time had now felt so foreign to her. Her swiftly beating heart could hardly handle it. She wanted to squeal and shout out from just pure happiness, but she kept herself restrained.
(Y/n) found herself outside the motel and reread the sign to make sure she was reading it right. "$20 per night." The motel was two stories and was very run down and old. The front desk was run by a cranky looking older man who just gave her a key and held out his hand for money.
"How many nights?" He grumbled. His eyes not moving away from the screen. (Y/n) gulped and began getting the money from her bag.
"I-I'll be paying for a week for now." (Y/n) replied, handing over the money. That's when the older man glanced at her and sighed, giving her a paper to sign.
"Another homeless bitch... sign here please. Nothing crazy, just an agreement that we can kick you out if you're causing a problem." The rude old man grumbled to the young woman. (Y/n) frowned and nodded, skimming over everything before signing. The man just took the page and returned his focus to the screen.
(Y/n) just took her key and left to her room. Surprisingly, the room was nice and clean. It had a single twin bed with a kitchenette, a desk, and a bathroom. She didn't care if it didn't have a table, it was home for now. (Y/n) threw her stuff down and stripped down to just her underwear before throwing on an oversized t-shirt.
She flopped down onto the bed and groaned, satisfied. It had been so long since she'd lay in a bed. She didn't care that she was sweaty, she just wanted to go to sleep. However, before she did, she pulled out the note and her phone. (Y/n) put in Orion's number and texted him.
"Thank you, goodnight."
