Ep 3・❥・ Pack mentality

Harper thought that by not going to the date night Lydia and everyone else planned she would be free from seeing Scott or Stiles for just one night. She was horribly mistaken.
Selene and Harper had gone for a walk, one that would've been a perfect and peaceful way to end the night. Instead, when they opened the front door they found Scott tumbling down the stairs with Derek standing at the top of the stairwell. Selene's jaw was practically on the ground, her eyes wide as she took in the scene before her.
Harper on the other hand wore a deep frown as her eyes moved between a furious-looking Derek and the boy he had just launched down an entire flight of stairs. Thousands of questions fought for her attention but all of them went out the window when she saw Selene approaching the boy. She wouldn't think twice about it if when Scott lifted his head he didn't reveal his glowing eyes and bared teeth.
In the span of half a second, he sprung up charging straight at Selene. With a loud bang, Selene crashed into the wall behind her. Harper wasted no time to dart towards Scott the second he laid a finger on the older girl. As he was getting to his feet she quickly delivered a blow to his jaw, ducking as he tried to throw one back before sweeping his legs.
He hit the floor with a hard thud but quickly recovered just in time for Derek to reach him. The second Scott laid eyes on him he grabbed a fist full of Derek's shirt and threw him against a wall with so much force that it broke.
"Shit," Harper muttered under her breath, shocked at Scott's sudden outburst of power but also the slightest bit impressed.
However, things weren't going to slow down on her account because, in the span of half a second, Derek managed to get up and easily transform into his werewolf form. The McCall boy didn't seem so confident anymore but not afraid enough to back down. He charged through the gaping hole in the wall, heading directly for Derek.
They both exchanged hits and blows, Scott doing a lot better than expected. Harper and Selene stood side by side not intervening but also not helping Derek in any way with the fight. Per Selene's decision. She had told the younger girl it was their battle and if things got too much or went on for too long she would step in.
Their fighting lasted only a little while longer. Just when Selene or Harper thought one of them got the other hand the script would flip. Eventually, Derek managed to pin Scott down. Harper cringed as he wrapped his claws around Scott's neck before picking up his whole body and slamming it into the ground repeatedly. Derek then let go but decided the fight wasn't over because he kicked Scott right in the gut.
"What are you doing Derek?" Selene muttered under her breath, shaking her head before racing over to the room they were fighting in. She got in front of Derek shoving him in the chest with enough power that sent him stumbling back and almost tripping over his own feet. Harper could tell that his ego was hurt by the sour look on his face. Then again, when did Derek ever look anything but angry and tense?
He was about to rush back towards the action the younger girl simply rolled her eyes and grabbed his forearm, pulling him back. "Calm your werewolf ass down." Derek shot Harper one of his usual frosty glares before tugging his arm out of her firm grasp.
Meanwhile, Selene had her hand fists clenched by her side, waiting for Scott to get back up. She didn't expect him to jump towards her as quickly as he did, but it wasn't something she couldn't deal with. She un-balled her fists, using her sharp claws to slash his chest in one swift motion.
Scott immediately dropped to his knees, using one of his hands to press against the wound and the other on the ground so he could keep steady. He groaned still not having the strength to stand. Derek was slowly returning to his human form and once he was finally back to normal he was drenched in sweat, his chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath.
"I didn't kill him. None of us did. It's not your fault and it's not mine." Derek broke the silence. His voice was breathy whilst also being strong and almost commanding. Selene and Harper both shared a look of concern and confusion a thousand silent words being shared between them.
"I'm sorry what?" Harper asked, folding her arms over her chest as she looked at both Scott and Derek in hopes one of them would be kind enough to give her an answer. That's when Harper remembered the driver and how Scott had gone back to try to remember what happened.
Scott suddenly sprang up to his feet, getting up in Derek's face as he yelled, "This? This is all your fault. You ruined my life!"
"No, I didn't." Derek spat back. Harper and Selene hung back letting it all unfold again, knowing where this conversation was heading.
"You're the one that bite me."
"No, I'm not." The Hale countered again, this time through gritted teeth his tone a lot more aggressive than Harper had personally ever heard Derek talk.
"What?" Scott exclaimed and when Derek finally dropped the bomb saying that he wasn't the one that bite him the scruffy-haired boy's entire face dropped. He backed up slightly, looking down at the wound Selene left on his chest before lifting his fingers and touching some of the blood.
His eyes squeezed shut as he stood almost frozen. Harper had seen this before. A few times, actually. She was pretty sure Scott was having flashbacks, she wasn't sure of what of course but that was the only explanation for his odd behaviour that came to mind. Or maybe he was just a weirdo. Or maybe both.
When Scott's eyes shot open and he stumbled backwards onto the couch Harper figured that her first theory was probably the most accurate. "There's another." Scott realised, nodding ever so slightly at his revelation.
Harper, Derek and Selene shared looks, trying to figure out who would be the one to explain this all to Scott. The Hale nodded at Selene causing her to sigh. She looked down at the McCall boy searching for the right words.
Although in her old pack, one of her duties was to 'train' and explain what was going on to the new members of the pack, she never really had to explain the idea of the alpha. Not in this way at least. Since he would make it painfully clear that he was the most powerful, capable of whatever he pleased.
Selene took a deep breath before finally speaking. "It's called an alpha, Scott. They are the most powerful of our kind, the most animalistic. They are different than us we are betas."
Scott's eyes locked on Harper and he just looked at her for a moment almost studying her. "But not you? You're not one of us." Scott observed causing chills to shoot down the girl's spine. She wasn't even quite sure why being put on the spot had such a major effect on her.
Maybe it was the fact that ever since leaving the pack with Selene no one other than her and Derek knew about her being a siren. Maybe it was the fact that she didn't want to be seen as a siren before being seen as Harper. Maybe it was all of that and more.
Harper shook her head softly in response but Scott only continued. "You- you're not nothing." He sat up slightly and Harper could feel Derek and Selene's eyes burning into her. "You feel different."
Harper felt her heart jump to her throat, her mind going blank but also racing faster than it ever had. "Did Derek hit you too hard or something?" She managed to question immediately after giving Derek and Selene a pleading look that begged for them to intervene.
Harper knew that what she was couldn't be kept a secret for much longer. Eventually, the truth would come out, it always did. A lie is a burden no one is capable of carrying. Eventually, your shoulders will crack from the weight and the truth will come out since that too is impossible to hold onto. It's as hard as holding soft sand in your palms without losing a single grain.
"My sister came here looking for him, and now I'm trying to find him, that's also a reason why Selene and Harper are here. But we can't do it without you." Derek abruptly cut in and Harper was thankful that he did.
Scott's head hung low, his eyes not meeting anything but the ground as he questioned, "Why me?"
"He's the one that bite you. You're part of his pack." Derek answered, causing the shaggy-haired boy to finally pick his head up. "It's you Scott. You're the one he wants."
