Chapter 5

First Person POV
September 4th, 2019
9:45 p.m.

I went home after seeing the spiders. I don't know what made me so intrigued, but I'll be heading back up again once some of the employees leave.

I mean, I usually don't break rules, but I feel like this is going to be a learning experience for me.

I check the time on my phone. It read 9:45 p.m. I then take a quick look around the lab that I was in. There were three people in the room, and they were probably in their late thirties.

"I'm going to head home." I lied as I began to walk out of the door of the lab.

"Okay, see you tomorrow then!" Said one of the  lab assistants, who was studying something under a microscope.

I walked out of the room, not at a quick pace, but at a steady pace so no one would question my antics.

I made my way to the elevator, that way if anyone would see me, they would think I'm going down to the lobby.

It took about 5 minutes to reach the 31st floor (we were on the 106th floor), but when I got out, I ran to L42 and opened the door. Once I was inside, I shut it behind me and locked it.

I placed my stuff on a nearby lab table before grabbing a lab coat and goggles. I then headed over to the cylinder terrarium.

The spiders were crawling sluggishly across their branches and logs. I watched them quietly, my eyes fixed on a bright blue one on the glass.

'This is going to be a bad idea.' I thought to myself. I wanted to study them more and see what they were capable of.

I began to think over my decision, weighing whether or not it would be a good idea to take out that blue spider. Besides, I'm wearing all of the safety equipment, so I should be fine.

I took a deep breath and opened a small door which led to the terrarium. The blue spider wasn't that far from the door, so I grabbed a smaller terrarium so I could put it in there.

However, when I grabbed the terrarium, the blue spider jumped onto my sleeve. I jumped back, almost falling onto a cart that was behind me. The spider sat there, watching me with its eyes. I stared back at it, mesmerized by them.

I couldn't take off my goggles, otherwise I would be paralyzed. I shut the cylinder terrarium door and locked it.

I then brought the spider to the closest examination table and placed it into the smaller terrarium. I set the terrarium by the microscope.

I wasn't going to dissect the spider. All I wanted to do is put it under the microscope and see the thing more closely.

I proceeded to grab the spider with a tweezer and placed it under the microscope. I placed it down under the light and went to adjust the fine adjustment.

That's when the spider decided to move.

At first, I didn't notice. But once I did, it was too late.

It's small fangs dug into the top of my hand. I cursed under my breath and shook the spider off of my hand. I didn't really see where it landed, but I knew I had to put something on my hand.

I could feel the affects of the spider bite becoming noticeable. My hands were clammy and I could feel the sweat trickle down my face as I placed my hand under running water.

'Wait, didn't he say that the bites were poisonous?' I thought foggily as my hand slipped from the faucet handle, trying to shut it off.

I stumbled over to where the plants were at on the window sills. I looked at them, my eyesight beginning to go dark.

The last thing I remember was looking at a small plush plant.

662 words.

Sorry again if this chapter sucks. It's almost 1 a.m., but I figured I might as well write a quick chapter before heading off to bed 😂
