Day 14 - Crying

Write a scene where a character cries.

-----------

A/N

I based this story off 그녀를 사랑해줘요 (Please love her), a Korean song. There's the original version sung by Ha Dong-kyun, but I like Exo Chen's version better. :) Therefore, I just made this into a fanfic of him :D

Although there are videos with English translations for this song, there were some parts that weren't correct, so I just translated it myself for the precise meaning. But those videos were pretty good, too~

Read through the lyrics to get a gist of how the story will go~ or not.. whatever you want ^^; And I attached the lyric video of Chen singing it. I hope it shows up...

Oh, and I used Chen's real name in here, which is Kim Jong-dae. cute name there, buddy (;

Enjoy!

Lyrics:

잠깐 기다려 줄래?

Can you wait a minute?

지금 데리러 갈게.

I'll come get you now.

왜 자꾸 울기만 하니?

Why do you only keep crying?

말해 말해 어디에 있니?

Tell me, tell me, where are you?

네가 사랑하는 사람이

Did the person you love

너를 두고 간 거니?

leave you and go?

집으로 데려다 줄게.

I'll take you home.

가자 가자 바람이 차가우니까.

Let's go, let's go, the wind is cold.

너를 울리는 그 사람이 뭐가 그렇게 좋으니?

What do you like so much about that person who's making you cry?

너는 모르지 너만 모르지

You don't know, only you don't know

너를 사랑하는 내 맘을.

my heart that loves you.

걸음이 느린 내가 먼저 가지 못해서

Because my steps were slow, I couldn't make it to you first.

내 자릴 뺏긴 아픈 사랑을.

And (you don't know) the painful love when my place was taken.

너의 웃는 모습이

Your smiling face

누구 보다 예쁜지.

is prettier than anyone else's.

그 사람 알기나 하니?

Does that person even know?

정말 정말 알고도 너를 울리니?

Does he really know, and yet he's still making you cry?

이름 모르는 당신에게

To you, whose name I don't even know,

부탁 하나만 하는데.

I'm asking you for a favor.

사랑해줘요 사랑해줘요.

Please love her, please love her.

내가 사랑하는 그녀를.

The girl whom I love.

당신이 나 대신해 가진 나의 그녀를

You, who has her instead of me,

함부로 다룰 생각하면 안돼요.

don't even think about treating her recklessly.

사랑해줘요.

Please love her.

내 마음도 몰라주는 그녀를.

She, who doesn't even know my heart.

그녀가 사랑하는 사람 당신이니까

Since you are the one she loves,

나보다 많이 사랑해줘요.

please love her more than I do.

다시는 울리지는 말아요.

Don't make her cry ever again.

"Hello? Ah-rim?"

There was silence for a moment before he heard her choked-up voice on the other line.

"...Jong-dae..."

"What's wrong? What happened?" He asked, although a part of him already guessed why she was calling.

"He....he..."

The sounds of her cries flooded his ear as she broke down into tears, unable to go on.

He grabbed his car keys and jacket, balancing his phone between his ear and shoulder while putting it on.

"Where are you right now?"

She answered in a barely audible tone, so he had to strain to hear her correctly.

"Just wait a minute, alright? I'll come get you. Don't go anywhere."

"Alright..."

Jong-dae hung up and got into his car. As he hurriedly started the engine and steered out of the parking lot, his mind was filled with multiple thoughts about Ah-rim.

Why do you only keep crying? He thought frustratedly.

~~

Ah-rim was sitting on a park bench when he found her, her legs pulled up and her head resting on her knees.

He walked up to her and called her gently, "Ah-rim."

Her head snapped up at his voice, and although the only light was the dim streetlamp next to the bench, he could see her eyes had turned red due to her crying. The frustration from earlier crept up, and he sighed.

"What happened?" He asked, though he already knew.

She slowly put her legs down and hung her head in silence.

Jong-dae ran a hand through his hair and stood, for a moment, in front of her. Noticing that she was shivering from the chilly night air, he took off his jacket and placed it around her shoulders.

She gave a quiet thanks without looking up, and he sat down next to her on the bench.

"What happened this time?" He asked again.

Ah-rim fidgeted with her fingers, a habit he knew she always did when she was trying not to cry.

"We...we had a fight. And he got mad and...a-and said that we should b-break up..."

The tears started falling again, and she continued in a broken voice, "He said...he said to never call him again and....h-he...he...just left."

By now, Ah-rim was sobbing, and Jong-dae, instead of feeling frustrated like before, felt his chest squeeze with pain at the sight.

Normally, he hesitated to touch her, mostly in consideration of his own feelings. But this time, he just gathered her small frame in his arms and let her cry it out, ignoring what that decision did to his heart.

Whenever this happened, he was always overwhelmed with conflicting emotions. Anger at the person who hurt her and at himself that he couldn't do anything about it. Pain at how she was so heartbroken, and the fact that she was crying because she loved someone else. Regret that, although he had so many chances, he couldn't make it to her first with his slow steps.

Jong-dae patted her back gently as she started calming down.

"S-sorry, Jong-dae... I know I'm such a b-burden on you every t-time." She spoke softly into his chest.

He continued gently patting her back and replied, "It's alright." You're never a burden to me.

She pulled away with a grateful look and started wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her blouse. But he grabbed her arm to stop her and instead, wiped them away with his thumb.

"You wouldn't want to get your pretty clothes ruined, right?" He smiled a little at her and continued sweeping away the lingering tears in her weary eyes. All the while, himself pretending not to notice that his heart continued to beat faster.

"Thanks..." She murmured.

When he reluctantly pulled back his hand, she once again lowered her head.

He sighed inwardly at her dejected form and stood up suddenly.

"Come on, I'll take you home."

When she stood up too, he pulled the jacket around her more snugly and began leading her towards where his car was parked.

"The wind is getting cold."

~~

Two weeks later.

Jong-dae spotted Ah-rim sitting alone in the library, her head bent over a textbook. Some locks of hair had escaped from her messy ponytail and framed her pretty face, her glasses preventing them from getting into her eyes.

He unconsciously smiled at the familiar sight of her engrossed in her studies, and he was grateful that she was returning to her old self a little everyday.

Ever since the breakup, they had been spending more time with each other, like they did before she started going out with her ex. And although he knew the breakup caused her pain, he couldn't help but feel a little grateful. Because that meant he could see her more now.

With his usual grin on his face, he crept up behind her and bent down towards her ear to whisper, "Ah-rim."

She jumped in surprise and turned her head to see who it was. As she did, Jong-dae realized their faces were only inches apart, and he quickly straightened up.

"Jong-dae! You scared me. What are you doing here?"

Ah-rim smiled up at him, although her glasses couldn't hide the sorrow that was still evident in her eyes after what happened two weeks ago. His heart simultaneously skipped and squeezed at the sight.

How could that person leave you even while knowing how beautiful your smile is?

Wanting to get rid of that sadness haunting her, he took a seat across from her and grinned playfully. "There's this presentation in Architecture class, so I have to look up some stuff about it."

She nodded thoughtfully, and he gestured toward the stack of papers on the desk in front of her, "Did a hurricane pass through here?"

"Rough draft for an essay," she replied with an amused look on her face. After tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she continued, "I didn't know it would be this hard, though. How did you do all those essays last year, Jong-dae?"

Ah-rim looked at him with her head slightly tilted, as if he was an interesting specimen underneath her microscope. She looked so cute that he had to restrain himself from planting a kiss on her right there.

Instead, he responded with a chuckle and was about to speak when her phone gave a ring, indicating a message had arrived.

"Sorry, let me just answer this," she said to him, with an apologetic look towards the librarian who gave her a stern look.

He nodded to tell her it was alright, and Ah-rim fished her phone out of her bag to see who it was.

However, when she saw the name displayed on the screen, he spotted a glimpse of expectancy pass across her face.

"It's...it's him." She spoke quietly, her eyes not leaving her phone screen.

Jong-dae felt his heart drop, but he tried not to show it as he cleared his throat and said, "What did he say?"

There was a pause before she answered, "He says he wants to talk....and to meet him at the cafe in front of his house."

She fiddled with her pencil and asked in a meek voice, "Do you...do you think I should go?"

No. Stay here with me.

"What do you want to do?"

"I do want to talk, but..." She stopped speaking and looked up. "What if-?" There was a mixture of sadness, confusion, but most of all, hope in her eyes, and it made him unable to say anything otherwise.

"Just go, then," he cut in. "Maybe you can work things out." The words came out of his lips, but his heart wasn't in them.

At that, her face lit up a bit and she responded, "You think so?"

He nodded once, and she started packing up her stuff. "Ok, then I'll go."

Jong-dae helped her with the scattered papers on the desk, and whenever their hands brushed against each other, his fingers tingled at her touch.

Only you don't know...

As they walked out of the library together, she turned toward him and said, "Thank you, Jong-dae. A lot." Ah-rim smiled her beautiful smile at him, this time, though, it reached her eyes.

Waving at him as she ran to the bus stop, he stared after her until she was gone from his sight.

What do you like so much about that person who's making you cry?

~~

One month later.

"Jong-dae! Over here!"

He spotted Ah-rim and her boyfriend sitting by the far window and made his way to them.

When he had gotten the text from her yesterday requesting to meet him at a cafe, he had hesitated to respond. Knowing that she wanted to introduce him to her boyfriend, the same one who had continuously made her cry before, he had pondered on whether or not he should decline.

But he had never been able to refuse any of her favors before, and it wasn't any different then. So, he had stupidly said yes.

However, seeing them sitting together so affectionately instantly made him regret coming. It drained all the energy out of him.

"Hey Ah-rim."

She smiled brightly at him as he took a seat in front of them. And as usual, it gave him a warm feeling inside.

There was a few moments of silence before Ah-rim broke it by nudging her boyfriend in the side. "Aren't you going to introduce yourself? That's what you're supposed to do when you meet new people, you know?"

Her boyfriend looked over at him, not with a hostile air, but more of a suspicious one. As if he could already tell, within the short time they've seen each other, that Jong-dae was in love with his girlfriend.

Ah-rim sighed at the continuing silence and decided to take things into her own hands.

"Jong-dae, this is Cha Sun-woo," she said, gesturing to each of them in turn.

"And Sun-woo," she placed a loving hand in her boyfriend's and continued, "this is Kim Jong-dae." Here she paused and reached out her other hand to his. "My best friend."

Although her words weren't exactly what he wanted to hear, it didn't make his heart beat any slower than it was already.

She placed both their hands together and forced them into a handshake.

Though he was shaking her boyfriend's hand, his eyes drifted to her. She was grinning like a satisfied little kid, and he couldn't help but stare at her longer than he should have.

Sun-woo apparently noticed and took his hand back abruptly. That brought Jong-dae out of his trance —and helped him to collect his mind.

"Nice to meet you," he said politely to Ah-rim's boyfriend. "But I think I have to go now. Something urgent came up, and I have to go right now." He gave Ah-rim an apologetic look as he started standing up.

"Can't you stay a bit longer? You guys just met each other." Ah-rim stood up with him and grabbed his arm gently.

"Sorry, Ah-rim, but this is really important." He tried not to look at her straight, though. She always knew when he was lying by staring into his eyes.

"We'll escort you out then." She gestured to Sun-woo to stand up and turned to get her bag, but Jong-dae stopped her.

"No, no. I don't want to ruin your date. Just stay here, I can go by myself." He smiled at her and joked, "It's not like you're my babysitter or anything. I'm fully grown, though it might not look like it."

Ah-rim didn't notice his fake smile, but shook her head in mock disapproval at his self-diss. "You're plenty tall, Jong-dae."

He ruffled her hair as a goodbye and nodded to Sun-woo, whose suspicions seemed to grow even more as he was watching their exchange in silence.

Pushing open the door to the cafe, Jong-dae breathed in deeply in thoughts of where to go so he wouldn't be completely lying to Ah-rim.

Seeing the couple through the outside window, he stood there a moment, taking in how Ah-rim seemed to brighten up so much around the person she loved.

Since you're the one she loves, please love her more than I do. He thought as he stared at Sun-woo tucking a strand of hair behind Ah-rim's ear.

Since you're the one who has her instead of me, don't even think about treating her carelessly.

Jong-dae locked his eyes on Ah-rim's glowing, laughing, beautiful face.

But most importantly...

He turned his back to the window and began walking in the opposite direction.

Don't make her cry ever again.

I actually wasn't planning to put the boyfriend's name in here. I was just going to keep him nameless, but I put that tidbit in there for my sis. *wiggles eyebrows* Recognize the name, anyone?
