Day 1 - Coffee

Write a scene that takes place in a coffee shop.

------

"May I take your order?"

This is what I have to say everyday.

Just a small part of the monotonous routine that I call my life.

But it's not like I'm complaining.

Without it, my life would be even more boring and most of all, insignificant.

The real complaining comes when I get people like this:

"I would like a large cafe mocha with two shots espresso and almond milk. And could you include whipped cream instead of the usual milk froth? And please add a dash of cinnamon along with the cocoa powder. Oh, I would also like two cup holders with that."

Or people like this:

"May I take your order?"

"No, you may not."

And definitely people like this:

"Can you give me a.......um.....the amer- no never mind. I want the frapp- no no. um...maybe the iced coffee? No, I think I'll take the caramel macchiato since it's chilly. Would a vanilla latte be better? Nah, I don't like sweet stuff so....I'll just take a biscuit.

But even if every customer was like that, I would still work here. Is what I should say but right now, the person ordering is doing the exact same thing as the third example previously stated, which is why I could think this long. I think I'll just go on complaining.

Finally, he settles on a mocha frappe and I take his order.

The place has been pretty quiet for a Tuesday, seeing that the indecisive customer is only the second one today. And it was already 3pm.

I pluck a pen and a napkin from the front, sit down on a stool behind the register, and start to sketch a random sunflower.

I'm getting the mocha frappe of the indecisive customer when I hear the bell on the door ding, so I quickly turn around.

Just in time to see my mom walk in.

I think I dropped my drawing into the mocha frappe after that.
