mistakes are made.

"do you want anything to drink?" felix asks.

"what, without any introduction?" she counters, raising her eyebrows.

"you don't need to know my name."

"ana," she offers. "i thought it might be nice to know who's going to murder your entire coven."

"do you want anything to drink?" felix repeats.

"i'll order. two waters, right?" she grins wickedly when she elicits a nod from felix. "and don't worry, i know you vampires can smell poison from a mile away. i won't try anything."

ana stands, making her way over to the crowded bar to order. her order comes surprisingly quickly, and she pads back to the table with a fake smile on her face.

"here's to your death."

felix grabs his glass and inhales, ensuring that there's no poison. he scoffs. "you think you can kill me? you're barely past twenty-one. you're a child."

"yes, but i was born with my abilities. your humanity was stolen from you all those years ago, and you were cursed--turned into a monster. i am pure, and you are evil. and that's why i have to kill you."

"i have half a century of experience," felix says. "you have cheap party tricks."

"where's the coven?" ana sneers.

"wouldn't you like to know," felix counters, a smile playing on his lips.

"i'll kill you. there is no outcome of this in which you survive."

"i'd like to see you try to kill me," he laughs.

ana hums, taking a sip of her drink. her lipstick leaves a red imprint on the rim of the glass. "a toast, then?" she asks, raising her glass of water. felix furrows his eyebrows and does the same, clinking their glasses together. "cheers, lee felix," she says sweetly.

almost instantly, a pain ignites in felix's chest, concentrating just over his heart. he clutches the area in pain and glares at ana with vitriol. "what did you do?" he manages to gasp out.

ana throws her head back and laughs. "an old german curse, dear. never toast with water. i've just wished death upon you."

"you're lying. those don't work," felix grunts.

"see, normally, it wouldn't work... but since i'm a witch, all i have to do is add a little bit of magic to the equation, and... voila, you're going to die!"

not caring who sees, felix stands, grabbing ana's wrist and dragging her out of the bar, not daring to loosen his grip. he pulls her towards the cellar, hand covering her mouth, and pins her against the wall.

she does nothing.

it's broad daylight, but no one is around, and felix is hungry, so he drinks.

ana whimpers in pain, but not the way any normal victim would. she seems... calm. smug.

felix releases his grip on her neck and spits. "your blood tastes disgusting," he informs her, detaching his fangs once more and going in for more bitter blood.

and suddenly, she screams out something in what has to be another language. felix understands nothing but the name azriel. as if the shriek was her final goodbye, her head lolls to the side, and her body falls limp against felix, who releases his hold and lets her fall, licking his lips. the warm blood travelling down his dry throat soothes the sensation in his chest just enough for him to breathe normally again.

he leaves the scene as is. no one will trace it back to him.

felix walks back towards campus, wiping the blood from his mouth, running his tongue over his teeth.

good--he won't have to feed tonight.
