Chapter 12: Internships
Izuku returned home alongside Ochako and Katsuki. Tenya needed to leave early, as a family emergency had occured.
Izuku opened his door, only to be tackled by his mother, Katsuki also embraced by his 'old hag'.
"Izukuuu!!" Inko wailed.
Izuku laughed, hugging his mother.
"Well done kid, I'm impressed." Mitsuki told him.
"Thanks Auntie." Izuku said.
"You didn't do too badly yourself brat." She told Katsuki.
He tried to scowl, but a grin broke through.
"Damn right! Second only to the Nerd! But I'll get him next year!" He said pridefully.
Ochako smiled, watching the boys get smothered by their mothers.
Inko let Izuku go, smiling at Ochako.
"Come and sit down Ochako dear, you did very well too." She said.
Mitsuki noticed the brunette walk past.
"You did well!" She said. "You gave the brat a run for his money! I'm sure you'll do better next year, who knows?"
Ochako smiled.
"Thank you." she said.
After a celebratory dinner, everyone headed home, and Izuku sat alone in his room, staring at the medal.
*It hasn't quite hit me yet. I'm sure I'll realize tomorrow.* He thought.
The first thing Izuku said the next morning confirmed his thoughts.
"HOLY CRAP I WON THE SPORTS FESTIVAL!"
Izuku spotted Tenya walking towards school just ahead of him, speeding up to catch him.
"Tenya!" He called.
The taller boy stopped, turning to face the greenette.
"I saw the news, about your brother. I'm here if you want to talk.." he said.
Tenya only smiled.
"Thank you Izuku. I will be fine however."
Izuku stared at his friend, concern flooding his mind.
Later, in class, Aizawa stood at the front to make an announcement.
"Today you will be doing something important for your futures. You will be deciding on codenames to use in the field."
The class cheered and chattered in excitement.
Aizawa activated his quirk, hushing the crowd.
"As I myself am not suited for this task, another teacher will be helping you decide." He said.
The door suddenly opened, and Midnight strolled in, carrying whiteboards and pens.
"Your codename needs to tell people what kind of hero you are. Don't worry too much, as you can still change your codenames at a later date, however the one you choose now will be used by any hero you meet while using it, so choose wisely!" She said.
The class quickly got to work, writing on their boards and thinking about their ideas.
Aoyama was the first to present his name, "I can't stop twinkling."
Fortunately, Tsu chose a sensible name, bringing the class back to an excited mood.
"Froppy." She said simply.
"How adorable!" Midnight cooed.
Many hero names were presented, Pinky, Chargebolt, Grape juice, Tentacole, Creati, Uravity, Earphone Jack, and a few others.
Tenya and Shoto just used their given names.
Katsuki went for two rejected ones, before settling on Ground Zero.
Izuku thought for a minute, before standing before the class.
"You sure Midoriya? You do know what that means right?"
Izuku nodded.
"It's short for another nickname I have, which has changed its meaning over time. So I am Deku, the vampire!"
When everyone finished presenting their hero names they were given sheets of paper with their internship offers.
Izuku had gotten several thousand hero agencys requesting he come and intern with them.
"Who are you going for Izuku?" Ochako asked outside the classroom.
"I'm not sure, I haven't gotten halfway through the list yet.." he replied.
Katsuki laughed.
"I'm going for Best Jeanist, the number 4 hero!" He boasted.
"You got an offer from the number 4 hero?? Amazing!" Izuku said.
A sudden voice called out.
"I AM HERE, in a bizarre position!"
"A-all Might??" Izuku exclaimed.
"Please come with me a moment.." he gestured Izuku forwards.
"I'll be back in a minute guys.." izuku said.
"Okay!" Ochako said.
Izuku followed All Might down a few corridors.
"You have received another internship offer." All Might said.
"Really? From who?" Izuku asked curiously.
"The hero's name is.. Gran Torino." All Might said.
"He was my homeroom teacher when I was a t school. He knows about One for All, which may be why he sent in an offer. Did he think my teaching was inadiquate? Damnit legs, stop shaking!!" He said.
*If he knows about One for All then I'd better go for his offer. I'm doing well, but I could still use any pointers he has..*
Izuku Ochako and Katsuki walked home without Tenya. The tall bespectacled boy had gone home alone. The news of the Hero killer attacking and paralyzing his brother had spread through the media like a wildfire.
Izuku waved goodbye to his friends, walking through his front door. He wished he could help Tenya somehow, but there wasn't anything he could do.
Two days later, the class were awaiting their trains to the various cities their internships were held at.
Tenya tried to walk away unseen, but Izuku and Ochako caught up to him.
"Hey Tenya. If you need to talk, we're always ready to listen. We're your friends, right?" Izuku said.
Tenya turned, a pained smile on his face.
"Of course." He said, walking away once more.
Izuku could smell the anger coming off him in waves.
Katsuki came over to the duo.
"I'll see you guys later." He said.
Izuku turned to his friend.
"Yeah, see you in a week Katsuki. Have fun!" He replied.
"You got your emergency drink?" Katsuki asked him.
Izuku patted his pocket, where a bottle filled with red liquid was stored.
"Thanks for this by the way. It'll come in handy for anything really bad that comes up. Not that it will!" He said.
Izuku stood outside a rickety old building.
*Whelp, time to meet All Might's teacher..*
Izuku opened the door, spotting a man lying in a puddle of what smelled like ketchup.
Izuku walked forwards, sniffing the air.
*Surprise, annoyance, impatience and curiosity..*
The man sat up, glaring at the vampire.
"Why didn't you fall for that?" He asked.
Izuku rolled his eyes.
"I know the difference between ketchup and blood. I eat one of them, and the other smells horribly strong." He said.
Gran Torino sighed, dusting himself off.
"Well, I suppose you won't fall for the 'senile' trick either." He said.
Izuku shook his head.
"I can kind of.. smell? It's more of a sense, but I can smell emotions." Izuku said.
The hero sighed.
"All right then, put your costume on and fire off a smash at me." He said.
Izuku smiled.
"Very well."
3 minutes later and Gran Torino was sent flying into a wall for the fourth time.
The hero groaned.
"You don't need any help with control, you've already figured out how to properly use it. What are you calling that anyway?" He asked.
"Full cowling." Izuku replied, green sparks glittering around him.
Gran Torino stood up.
"Well, your form is fine, and your powers are all good too. You just need experience. I suppose I shouldn't have underestimated you, with how well you did in the sports festival."
Izuku smiled.
The old man walked over to his microwave.
"I guess it's time for lunch. Do you like Takoyaki?" The hero asked.
Izuku shook his head.
"I can't eat food, sorry." He said.
Gran Torino turned to his new pupil.
"What do you eat then?" He asked.
Izuku looked off to the side.
"It's.. a special thing I'm given by my doctor." He replies.
Gran Torino stares for a second, before turning back to his microwave.
"Well, that just means there's more for me!" He says.
Izuku laughs, taking a sachet from his bag and biting it open. He drinks the contents and throws the empty packet into the bin.
Gran Torino sits at the table, munching happily on his pastry.
Izuku spends the next few days learning various fighting techniques he didn't know before. Due to his high intelligence and well trained body, he was able to learn a few styles to incorporate into his own.
Izuku's own vampiric strength, added onto now 17% of One for All, makes Izuku's moves look like a green blur.
Gran Torino soon decides he's ready to go on patrol.
"We're going out kid. Some of the nearby cities have lots of criminals to fight. Some might even put up a challenge to you, who knows?" He said.
Izuku, now in his costume, sat beside Torino on the bullet train. He wanted to eat, as it was almost nighttime now, but there were too many people around.
Izuku tapped his fingers onto the armrest of his chair.
*Eateateatbloodeatbloodbloodblood-*
The woman sitting opposite him screamed, staring out of the window.
Gran Torino and Izuku's heads whipped around to look out at Hosu city.
There was fire, and.. a Nomu, heading right for the train.
Izuku leaped through the window, scattering glass everywhere.
He slammed his fist through the Nomu's head, sending it sprawling to the streets below.
Izuku floated outside the broken window.
"Gran Torino!" He called into the halted train.
"I'm coming kid!"
A yellow blur shot out and landed on the train's roof.
"Good work Deku, lotsa people could've been hurt right there." He said.
Izuku nodded.
"You go and help anyone who needs it, I know you can take care of yourself. If you need to fight, you have my permission. Don't die." The man said.
Izuku nodded, flying down towards a hulking Nomu battling 12 heroes at once.
He slammed his heel into it's chest, launching it into a wall.
He helped people escape buildings and fought off rabid Nomu.
Izuku's head shot around to an alleyway, hearing a familiar voice.
Izuku sprinted into the darkness, spotting a towering man stood over Tenya. The hero Native was slumped nearby.
Izuku ran at invisible speeds, launching Stain away from his friend.
"Tenya, Native, can you move?" He asked.
"No, he did something to us.." Native replied.
"His quirk.. okay." Izuku said.
The Hero Killer stepped forwards.
"Another hero wannabe?" He said.
