Chapter 9: Secrets Desires
Both Natalia and Theodore stood at the foot of the bed, their mouths agape, the door behind them open wide, allowing anyone to peer into the chambers. They knew they should walk out, but somehow they couldn't, it was as if they were rooted in place.
The chambers were messy with clothing littering the floor, and a few candles on the floor as well. The curtains were drawn shut and the room was dark, but still enough light poured in so to see everything clearly. But the thing that left Natalia and Theodore in place was the two people on the bed. Alexander and Isabelle lay sleeping, the princess's head rested on her finance's chest as his arms encircled her waist. Alexander was shirtless and the same could be said to Isabelle, but she was thankfully covered by the duvet. Their hair was messed up and all over the place.
Theodore was the first to regain his bearings.
"Talia! Come we should leave." He whispered while tugging at her arm.
"B-but...I thought they had a fight?" Natalia stuttered.
"Natalia, let's leave before either one of them wake up. I want to leave the room with my head intact." Theodore hissed.
"But they had a fight."
"Oh, Jesus Christ! Let's leave!"
"B-but..." Natalia was cut short by a shriek causing the two of them to turn around in the direction of the noise, and found Alexander looking around in a daze as Isabelle had hidden under the quilt.
"Get them out!" She yelled from under the duvet.
"Get who out?" Alexander mumbled drowsily as he didn't quite understand what she meant.
"Those two!" Isabelle yelped as her hand came out and pointed the two frozen royals. Alexander turned in the direction and blinked a few times.
"Do you need me to say it?" Alexander warned lowly as he watched the two from his place on the bed.
"No! No need." Theodore yelled in panic as he grabbed Natalia by the shoulder and dragged her out of the chambers, closing the door behind them.
"Did they go?" Isabelle asked meekly from beneath the quilt. Alexander chuckled.
"Yes, angel. They're gone."
"Phew." With that said, Isabelle peeked her head out from beneath the quilt and sat leaning against the pillows behind her back. Running a hand through her messy hair. Alexander chuckled and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Is there ever a time in the day when you don't look beautiful?" He murmured against her skin. Isabelle laughed at his question.
"Honestly, I am sure that I do not look to be in the best of states right now, but you are implying that even after waking up I look beautiful. So to answer your question, you have to tell me because I do not walk around the palace holding a mirror to my face throughout the whole day seeing if I look presentable." Isabelle chuckled.
"No, you do not. But, you do not look presentable. To me and to everyone else, you look like a goddess that has graced us mortal men with her ethereal beauty." Alexander spoke as he took hold of her hand and placed a kiss on her engagement ring.
Her engagement ring was exquisite. It was a band of silver with three pearls at the top, surrounded by small diamonds. It shimmered and glittered in the sun, and fit Isabelle perfectly, as if though it were meant for her hands. A small smile graced her lips.
"You are quite the flatterer,"
"For you, I would be anything," Alexander spoke as he placed a kiss on the tip of her nose. Suddenly his expression turned from carefree to serious as he interlaced their fingers together.
"Isabelle, are you hurt anywhere?" He asked softly as he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"No, not really. I just feel slightly sore, but other than that I feel fine."
"Are you sure? I didn't hurt you?"
"No, Alex. You didn't, I'm fine! If I wasn't bare I would have showed you that I am perfectly well!" Isabelle said in exasperation.
"Okay, okay. I believe you. You are perfectly well." Alexander stated as he put his hand up in surrender, causing Isabelle to laugh as she lay down clutching her stomach.
"Did I say something funny?"
"No, no. That was just cute. Especially the expression on your face."
"Cute, huh?" Alexander said with a mischievous smirk. "I'll show you cute," He announced as he started to tickle her, sending her into a hysterical laughing fit.

"Should I be confused?" Natalia asked Theodore as they both sat outside in the garden
"Natalia. It is not for us to intervene. Isabelle and Alexander didn't get into a fight! They didn't have an argument! Alexander just never thought that people could view Isabelle as his sister-although they look nothing alike." Theodore sighed in exasperation.
"But. Ugh! I don't know why this is so confusing!"
"Talia. Leave them be! It is their love life, it is their engagement, it is their personal matter. Neither you nor I have the right to judge or intervene between them. They are happy." Theodore started to say."Haven't you noticed how happy Alexander seems since the past few days? Haven't you noticed how his face lights up with a smile when Isabelle comes to visit him. That girl has worked wonders on him. Let them be and stop fussing over today morning!"
"Alright, I'll forget about the morning." Natalia relented to the prince of Monaco.
"Good girl." Theodore mused as he patted her head.
"Now, we both have promised not to reveal what we saw earlier to anyone. If anyone inquires about it, we will just tell them that they were asleep. Do you guarantee it?" Theodore stated seriously.
"I guarantee it." Natalia nodded as she gave a firm shake to Theodore's hand to seal their promise.
"Good girl." He cooed as he placed a kiss on her cheek and walked back inside, leaving Natalia to sit in a daze with a hand on her cheek.

Natalia, Isabelle, Claire and Nathan all sat on the picnic blanket beside the lake. Each one of them holding a warm beverage in their hand as they munched on a tart that Berta had personally prepared for their tea. Natalia kept on glancing at Isabelle and smirking while said princess glared in return.
"I feel like I'm missing something." Nathan finally spoke after a while of observing their exchange.
"It's nothing!" Isabelle spoke hurriedly.
"It's nothing concerning you, but your brother perhaps." Natalia said at the same time.
"Natalia!" Isabelle hissed while slapping her arm.
"What? I'm lost." Claire piped in as she had been listening to their conversation.
"It's nothing!" Isabelle exclaimed looking pointedly at Natalia, who just shrugged innocently as she continued to sip her beverage.
"No! I want to know what you three are talking about!" Claire stated stubbornly as she held her ginger kitten to herself.
"Two. What those two are talking about. I'm just as lost as you are." Nathan stated as he eyed the two princesses that were bickering.
"What are they talking about?" They heard a new voice call out from their left. Instantaneously all four turned in the direction and found Alexander standing tall and proud with his hands folded behind his back while Theodore stood beside him enthusiastically waving at the royals.
"Y-you're out of your study?" Claire spoke, her voice laced with immense surprise.
"Yes. I decided I needed some fresh air." Alexander smiled.
"Or you just needed to see Isabelle." Theodore mumbled beside him, which earned him an elbow to the stomach causing him to double over and groan in pain.
"Are those Berta's special tarts?" Alexander asked to get everyone's attention off of them.
"Um...yes." Natalia spoke hesitantly as she made eye contact with Theodore who looking back at her sternly.
"Lovely!" Alexander clapped his hands together with a smile as he went and sat down beside Isabelle as he passed her a boyish grin, causing her to smile back at him. Theodore took a seat between Natalia and Nathan as the two dug into the tarts.
"Stop harassing Isabelle." Theodore whispered to Natalia who glared at him.
"Can't you see how happy he is?" He hissed in her ear as he cocked his head in Alexander's direction.
Looking to her right, Natalia saw Isabelle and Alexander sitting with their shoulders touching as he was holding Isabelle's gray kitten in front of him, inspecting it as it meowed at him. Alexander brought his finger to its face, seemingly wanting to poke the little thing, but it just scratched at his finger, causing him to retreat it. Isabelle laughed at his antics as he passed a charming smile to her, causing his eyes to crinkle at the edges as he too chuckled at his own childishness.
Natalia looked back at Theodore and saw him smirking as he shook his head at Alexander.
"I like the name Pearl for this kitten." Alexander revealed to Isabelle.
"Told you it was befitting." Isabelle stated smugly as Alexander chuckled and placed the kitten down, using his now free arm to wrap around Isabelle's waist and rest his cheek on top of her head. With the other hand, he plucked the cup out of Isabelle's hands and took a sip of the beverage.
"Don't you think it's sweet?" Alexander questioned as he handed it back to her.
"It's hot chocolate! Of course it will be sweet!" Isabelle laughed.
"Say, Natalia and Claire? What did you name your kittens?" Isabelle asked expectantly looking at the two. Natalia looked at her curiously while Claire was surprised to see them publicly display their affection.
"Well, I was thinking about the name Celeste." Natalia spoke first.
"Celeste? That's a rather cute name." Theodore stated from beside her before Isabelle could open her mouth to respond.
"It's very nice." Isabelle smiled at last.
"What about you Claire?" Alexander asked, redirecting everyone's attention to the younger princess.
"I like the name Ginger. You know, like its coat." She revealed with a shy smile as she pet her kitten.
"That's a name I call befitting!" Alexander stated to Isabelle, who just rolled her eyes at him. She looked around at the people gathered and her eyes lingered on Natalia and Theodore teasing each other. She turned towards Alex as he was wriggling his fingers in Pearl's face taunting the kitten whenever it tried to pounce on his long slender fingers.
"Does Theodore like anyone?" Isabelle whispered to Alexander as he stopped teasing Pearl.
"Not that I'm aware of. Why do you ask?" Alexander questioned curiously.
"Are you aware of the fact that Natalia fancies Theo, and it seems to be the same with him." Isabelle revealed.
"Where did you hear this?" He asked with his eyebrows furrowed together.
"Natalia told me herself. And it is evident that Theodore has affectionate feelings for her, by the way, he is with her."
"I-I wasn't aware of this. I thought he liked her as a sister."
"Look at them Alex. They're bickering like an old married couple." Isabelle chuckled as she saw Theodore teasing Natalia, whose face was bright red with anger or embarrassment, or both. Alexander watched them with a stoic expression.
"Oh! Come now! Don't tell me you are one of those brothers!" Isabelle exclaimed.
"What do you mean?"
"Don't tell me you are one of those over-protective brothers that act like no one is good enough for their sister. Come now Alex! We are human! We have flaws! We are not perfect." Isabelle exclaimed.
"But that doesn't apply to you, because you are my angel, and angels are perfect. Just like you are." He spoke softly as he kissed her forehead, his comment causing her to blush.
"Alex! You are drifting off topic here!" Isabelle exclaimed with a bright red face.
"Okay! Yes! You are right. I am one of those brothers." Alexander admitted.
"Alright! What are you two talking about!?" They heard Theodore ask causing them to look in his direction as they noticed that everyone was looking at them.
"Well, Theo. You and I need to have a talk." Alexander spoke fiercely as he started to get up.
"No! Alexander, don't you dare try and interrogate him!" Isabelle warned as she stood in front of him.
"Fine, then you are coming with me," Alexander stated firmly as he took hold of her hand and picked Theodore off the floor from the back of his neck.
"H-Hey! What are you doing?" Theodore yelled in panic as he was dragged into the castle, Isabelle trailing behind the two boys. Turning around she waved to the people who were all sitting there with confusion etched onto their features.
When Isabelle entered the study, she was surprised to see Alexander holding a sword under Theodore's chin as he was leaning back, his hands in the air, signaling his surrender.
"Alexander, amour, please put the sword down," Isabelle instructed softly as she walked forward.
"I'll handle this. An over-protective brother is unfit for such a task." Isabelle revealed as she pulled Theodores' arm and making him sit down on a seat in front of Alexander's desk, whereas Isabelle sat behind his desk, in Alexander's seat, while the prince himself, stood beside Isabelle, his arms crossed over his chest. Theodore uneasily glanced at Alexander's towering figure as he was unsure of what happened so suddenly to his closest friend.
"Theodore, sweety. Look at me." Isabelle instructed softly, causing him to snap his gaze at the beauty in front of him.
"Do you know why Alexander has brought you here?"
"No. Did I do something wrong?"
"Not at all. It is human nature. Alexander is just playing his part as an older brother, and you as a lover."
"What? I-I don't understand."
"Look, Theodore. Don't try denying the fact that you fancy Natalia. It is evident." Isabelle smiled. Theodore's cheeks adorned a dark shake of red as Isabelle talked to him about his affections towards Natalia.
"I-it doesn't matter. She doesn't feel the same way." Theodore spoke with a dismissive wave.
"Let me tell you something. You are her first and only crush. And she fancies you." Isabelle informed with a mischievous smile accompanied by a wink.
"Wha-" Theodore was confused for a moment, but then a smile broke out on his face.
"Really?" He asked, his voice laced with hope and excitement.
"Yes. Really." Isabelle nodded in response. If it was possible, then Theodore's smile widened, but suddenly it dropped and he looked at Alexander who was smiling back at him.
"Well, I can say that I wouldn't have wanted Natalia to be with anyone better than you." Alexander laughed at the shocked expression on Theo's face. He flew out of his seat and embraced Alexander, squeezing the air out of his lungs. He then released him and turned toward Isabelle, embracing her and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"You have worked wonders on him." He revealed as he placed a kiss on her hand and ran out the study, most likely to find Natalia.
