The Big Day: Upgrading the Vroomster
Lars's POV:
Alex and I had been assigned to give the Vroomster an upgrade without letting Xuli know, which was hard; Terry called Alex earlier and said she was depressed and wanted to go for a flight.
"How are we going to keep her distracted if she wants the Vroomster?" I asked.
"Well, maybe we can give her a G.O. Dive and make her do it in Sonar Mode?" He suggested.
"Hmm... I think that's a good idea!" I said.
"Do you know how to give the Vroomster an upgrade?" He asked me.
"What do you expect, Al?" I asked, laughing, "I've done so many upgrades in my years as a Go Jetter."
"Great!" He smiled, "So how do we start?"
"Like this," I said, flipping my toolbox and a whole load of stuff falling out: Screwdrivers, Spanners, cogs, screws, a Vroomster upgrade manual, and much, much more.
Alex looked absolutely horrorstruck.
(A/N: Here's another of my drawings. Sorry if it's bad.)
"Wha-wha...WHAT ON EARTH IS ALL THIS FOR?!" He shouted.
"This is all that's required for an upgrade," I said. Then, looking at him, he looked pale and terrified.
"You alright?" I asked.
"I...had...never...in...all...my...days...as...a...mechanic...been...involved...in...something...that...needs...so...much...stuff!" He said, aghast.
"Calm down," I said, "I'm sure you'll be able to make the cut. You just need to know what to do."
He looked at all the instructions and sighed.
"Let's go." He said.
"That's the spirit," I smiled, "Now let's get to work."
*A few minutes later...*
The Vroomster looked like it had ants in its pants (if it even had pants) and was itching for a flight. It was really hard to work with such a pansy of a veichle. It had been nosy for half an hour and made us delay our work.
Vroom-vroom-beep-buzz-beep!
(It means: 'What the hell is all this about?! Where is Xuli?! I'm itching for a flight!!')
"I'm sorry to do this, Vroomster," said Alex suddenly.
"Al, what are you-?" I said.
Then, out of the blue, Alex put what looked like a special liquid in the Vroomster's fuel hole. It started to rev savagely and panic. Then, it suddenly seemed to calm down, then it seemed to fall asleep.
"Al, what did you give it?" I said, aghast.
"Leo taught me this technique," said Alex, "He calls it 'Tame the Vroomster' and that gas was a mixture of Sulfur and Bromine, which he calls: 'A Vroomster's Sleeping gas'. As long as we keep the supply going it'll stay asleep until the supply runs out."
"Well, let's act fast! The gas won't last forever, y'know." I said.
*A few hours later...*
We were both dirty and covered with smudge. No doubt we were working hard on the upgrade for the past four hours and were absolutely exausted. Alex had fallen asleep while working and had only just woken up.
"We've been working on the upgrade for a heck of a time," I said to Alex, who was giving the Vroosmter a fresh paint job.
"Yep," He said, "Now we're almost do-"
"Vroomster? Vroomster?!"
Xuli's voice startled us both.
"It's Xuli!" Alex hissed, "Hide the Vroomster!"
I quickly took a sheet and covered the Vroomster up, then he quickly pretended to be tidying the workbench. I hid in the Truckster just as Xuli walked in.
Alex's POV:
Xuli walked into the Launch Pad just as Lars dived into the Truckster.
"Hey, Alex." She said.
"Oh, um...hi, Xuli." I said.
"Have you seen the Vroomster?" She asked.
"Umm..." I said, glancing at the covered Vroosmter, "I have no idea, Xuli. Mabye it accidentally flew off using the autopilot."
She sighed and looked down.
"You alright?" I asked.
"I was just in a bad mood lately." She said.
"Xuli, are you okay?" Bailey stood at the entrance, looking worried.
"I-it's just that..." She mumbled, "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch...I ... failed... let ... Mum... and ... Dad... down..."
Bailey and Alex stood there feeling guilty, with Lars hiding in the Truckster.
"Poor Xuli," He whispered.
Just then, Xuli collapsed onto the floor. As the young woman and small boy in the same room looked in horror.
"Oh, no," I said.
"Looks like we've lost our birthday girl," Said Lars, popping out of the Truckster.
"Agreed," Said Bailey.
She carried Xuli in her arms. "You keep upgrading, gentlemen. I'll get Xuli to bed."
She walked out of the room, looked at us for a few more seconds then the door shut. We still felt her presence in the room.
"Shall...we continue?" I asked.
"Okay," He said, uncovering the Vroomster and taking out his spanner.
*Six minutes later..*
We're done. I was happily able to admit it. And so was Lars.
"We're done." He said, tired.
"Now we can remove that thing off the Vroomster," He said.
I took the gas jar off the Vroomster and we both dashed out of the Launch Pad.
