Chapter 7
"This was too low a dose to completely incompasitate him, but he should be able to calm down now, enough that we can move him." Logan stated as he carefully put the syringe away. He had ran back to the pack house when he had seen Virgil wasn't calming down on his own and grabbed the first sedative he could find.
"Hey kiddo, can you hear me now?" Patton cooed gently.
"Yesh Ize can hear you." Virgil slurred in a daze. "That really fuckin shucked."
"Language!" Patton said even though he knew Virgil wasn't very coherent at the moment.
"Whoops sorry, Ize speakin english." At this point the medicine had made him loopy and delirious, the added effect of being completely exhausted didn’t help. Virgil sat up from his spot on the ground and groaned. His body hurt from tensing so much and not even the medicine was able to take all the soreness away. He furrowed his brow, “Why’s I talkin so funny?”
“Cause, your high as a kite right now there babe.” Roman said almost smirking but not quite. Hearing your mate beg for death right in front of you and not being able to help tends to make you a little emotionally distraught and Roman was no exception. It took all of his will power and Patton holding him back to let Logan push that damn needle into Virgil, but it seemed to help… kinda.
“Don’t call me babe!” Virgil said pointing a finger at Roman childishly. “Ize not a babbi!” He then crossed his arms and pouted like a grumpy toddler. “I’m also not high. I’m on the ground. See Ize can touch it. If Ize was high couldn’ touch it. Logic!”
“Oh, geeze your really relaxed now aren’t you kiddo.” Patton said. They were glad that he wasn’t freeking out anymore, but they were all kinda worried Virgil would say or do something he would regret later. “How about we take you back now. So you can lay down and take a nap.”
Virgil head shot up from his pouting and looked at them, “No.” He said with a certain sober cadence that made them all freeze.
“But we are in the middle of the forest.” Roman tried to reason.
“Ize not going with you. Yourse all crayze.” Virgil said. “You think I’m a dog or some shit and Ize not. So there. You are crayze and I am not stayin with crayze people. Plus I don’t like you,” He said pointing at Logan, “Your too pushy,” he said pointing at Patton and then pointing at Roman said, “and you…” he furrowed his brow trying to think of something to say, but his head supplying nothing but fuzzy thoughts. “You make me feel funny.” He said matter-of-factly. He decided it was time for him to go now. He clusimly tried to push himself off the ground. He unsteadily tried to step forward only to stagger. He would have fallen to the ground if firm arms hadn’t wrapped around him. Electricity jolted through his body scaring him. He tried to struggle and pull away, but he was too weak to do anything in his current state. The arms moved around and scooped under Virgil’s legs maneuvering him into a princess carry. Virgil looked at his captor indignantly. Roman just smirked back at him.
“I don’t think you get a choice in the matter my sweet little damsel in distress.” Roman said tilting his head closer to Virgil inhaling his sent. Virgil got pissed very quickly and started trying to hit Roman. It didn’t work well. Roman rolled his eyes and looked at his two pack mates. “Let’s head back now.” They nodded and they all started walking back.
Virgil was flailing like a toddler having a tantrum, but having a more vulgar vocabulary. At some point during the walk Virgil tired himself out enough that he just reverted to pouting in Roman’s arms. Virgil despite his predicament was actually feeling pretty comfortable, and damn it Roman smelled really good. Virgil decided just one sniff couldn’t hurt. He leaned his head into the crook of Romans neck taking a deep breath.
Roman froze in place, his face turning a bright crimson color as he felt the explosion of sparks on his neck, where one day Virgil would hopefully mark him. He tried desperately not to let the pleased noise that was bubbling in his throat escape him. Virgil didn’t know what he was doing. It would be unfair to do anything right now, but damn was it hard for Roman to control himself in that moment.
The other two had stopped and shared a smirk seeing Roman so flustered, but also ready to stop him if he couldn’t control himself. They knew that Roman would try his best not to hurt Virgil, but controlling ones wolf instincts was not an easy task.
"Uh, hey Virgil, um...can you maybe stop?" Roman asked clearly struggling.
“Stop what?” Virgil asked mumbling into Roman’s neck sending a shiver through Roman.
“Can you not have your face so close to my neck?” Roman clarified.
“But youze smell good. I like it.” Virgil put simply nuzzling closer to Roman’s neck. At this point Roman was shaking from trying to control himself. His eyes were glowing red and he could feel his canines extending.
“I SAID STOP!” Roman said in his commanding Alpha voice. Virgil should have immediately jolted back and submitted to Roman seeing as he was a weak, basically rogue that held no authority, but instead Virgil pulled away slowly, his eyes flashing purple and a low growl coming from his chest, as he looked Roman directly in the eyes.
“And I don’t care.” Virgil growled before sticking his face back into Roman’s neck.
Roman was pissed now. With his wolf instincts already on high his anger was way worse than it normally would be, not to mention his authority as an Alpha had just been ignored. His brain didn’t comprehend what had just happened. He probably would have lashed out had it not been for Virgil being his mate. No one should ever talk to him like that. Instead he huffed and placed Virgil on the ground. “Watch him.” He growled at the two others before he stormed off, he needed to cool off.
Patton sighed. “Hey Lo, can you go check on Roman I’ll stay here with the kiddo. I don’t think he is going anywhere.” He said looking at Virgil who was staring intently at a purple flower next to him. “I’ll mind link you if anything comes up.”
“I suppose I can do that.” Logan stated reluctantly before he walked in the direction Roman had stomped off into.
Patton walked over and sat next to Virgil, “thats a pretty flower isn’t it.” Patton said.
Virgil without looking away from the flower mumbled. “I like the color.”
“Is purple your favorite color.”
“Mmhmm.” Virgil said in agreement.
“Hey, Virgil?” Patton asked he had a question about something Virgil had said earlier. “Do you really think I am pushy?”
Virgil’s brow furrowed again trying to understand the question in his still drugged state. “Yeah your pushy.”
“How so?”
“You won’t stop trying to be my friend. I don’t need friends. I can’t have anyone.” He said his mood dropping drastically and with him not thinking clearly his anxiety over looking weak had gone out the window so he didn’t even try to hide the tears that started to form in his eyes. Patton wasn’t looking at his face at that moment so he didn’t see.
“Why can’t you have anyone? People need people.”
“Because--” Virgil’s voice cracked and Patton finally turned his head to see the tears streaming down Virgil’s face. “Because people leave. They left me. She promised she wouldn’t. She left me.” Virgil had curled up and started sobbing.
Patton panicked, “Hey no, Virgil, shh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to upset you.” Patton wanted to pull Virgil into a hug and comfort him tell him it would be okay, but Patton didn’t know the whole issue. He didn’t know if it would be okay. Patton didn’t want to lie to him…. Well laughter is the best medicine. “H-hey kiddo, you wanna hear a joke?”
Virgil lifted his head up a little and gave a shrug, “Okay um, Do you know why flamingos sleep with one leg up?” Patton asked cheerily as he could.
Virgil tilted his head to the side to illustrate that he didn’t.
“Because if they slept with both legs up they would fall over!” Patton exclaimed.
Virgil just stared at him blankly for a minute. Well, at least he stopped crying. Then suddenly it seemed to click and a small smile appeared on his face and a laugh escaped his lips. That’s progress!
“Hey what do you call fake spaghetti?”
“I don’t know what?”
“Impasta!”
That one made Virgil laugh really hard. When he stopped he relaxed and leaned onto Patton’s shoulder. The medicine had finally worn him out and he could barely keep his eyes open. He was too tired. So he didn’t try to fight and just slipped into unconsciousness.
Patton sighed as he looked down at Virgil asleep on his shoulder. “What happened to make you so sad kiddo?”

It was a few minutes later before the other two came back, but when they did Roman was in diffrent clothes. He must have gotten so mad that he shifted and they had to find a new pair of clothes for him before they came back. Now that he calmed down he was thinking clearer and could manage himself again. When they saw Virgil was asleep Roman simply scooped him up and carried him home. The other two following close behind. Roman placed his sleeping mate onto his bed before he walked back to the living room where the others were waiting for him.
“What do we do now Roman?” Patton asked concerned.
Roman sighed as he ran his hand through his hair. “I don’t know.” He was frustraighted and his nerves were fried. “I just really don’t know what to do."
