Tefé River's Codes
They had been staying in a safe house for a few days, attempting to contact FALLOUT or get answers from Augusto Garcia, their hostage. Whistler, Alexander Lanza, tied him up to a chair, pointing a blade at him.
"I'll do it."
"Quit being a prick," Camilo De Aguirre—codename; Glossy— sighed. "This won't work." The safe house only had one floor and a shared bedroom, Raven Fallon's bed was by the corner and she was sitting on it, with her tech gadget.
"Birdie?"
"Our supervisor, Steel, said she left us a package last night, but it's not here. I'm checking the video doorbell to see if someone took it," Raven said, feeling her heart racing. The safe house... looked similar to her childhood home, a home full of wretched memories.
Keep your head in the game, Birdie replayed the footage. "Whistler? Glossy?" The boys came over as Raven showed them the video. A masked person had entered the house late at night.
"Who is this stranger?" Glossy demanded.
Raven sped up the footage. "The masked stranger never left through the front door after." Alarmed, her hand went to the handgun in her pocket. She jumped from her bed, strolling over to Augusto Garcia, who was tied to a chair.
"Do you know this person?" She pointed at the screen.
"She's masked, I don't know—"
"She?" Raven squared her shoulders. "Steel might make the tough calls, but this time I will take charge," she said coldly, "I will not hesitate to kill you." She pressed the gun to his head.
"Whoa, mamacita, chill," Glossy said.
Augusto's forehead was dripping with sweat as Raven cocked her head, finger on the trigger. "Or maybe since we're in the Amazon Rainforest, I'll let a pit viper kill you. Tell me who she is, Garcia."
Her finger applied pressure to the trigger.
Even Whistler, the brute, looked terrified. "Birdie—"
Raven didn't pull the gun away. She pulled the trigger as Augusto blurted out, "She's my daughter!" Bang! Glossy gasped as Augusto shut his eyes. He was still alive as Raven sighed. "W-What?"
"No bullets," she said, holding up the empty handgun. FALLOUT's tech person, Frost-Byte, designed guns, even without bullets, to still make the bang! noise to scare information out of the victim.
Whistler stepped forward. "That person is your daughter, Sofia? You hired your daughter into an illegal business?" Sofia Garcia, eighteen—barely out of high school—and is known as a clever girl.
Glossy was appalled. "You're sick."
Raven crossed her arms. "I will shoot you if you don't talk about Sofia. What do you want? We have that you came to the Amazon Rainforest to have a meeting with someone to discuss an illegal trade, but how does Sofia fit in this—"
She realized something. "You're supposed to mean this mystery person today, aren't you? But we've kept you hostage, Sofia's going to your place. Why did she enter the safe house? What did she need from you?!"
"I will never tell," he sneered.
Whistler grabbed Augusto's phone out of his pocket, scrolling through his contacts. "This is your wife, Lucia, correct? How about I call her and tell her you've dragged Sofia into your horrid actions?"
"You truly are unorthodox!" Augusto yelled. That's what FALLOUT is all about. He growled but relented. "S-Sofia needed to grab the nuclear codes to exchange with our buyer, she went through the backdoor to get to Tefé River in time." Of course, the backdoor's video camera had been broken, that's why they didn't see her leave.
Raven's eyes went wide. "Codes? Nuclear codes?"
"The buyer paid for the rest of Sofia's life!" Augusto cried out, but Whistler was already running out the door to start their rental car. Glossy quickly offered to stay behind to watch Augusto.
Raven was nearly out the door when Augusto shouted, "Promise me you won't hurt her! Sofia is my everything!" I guess Sofia and I have something in common, she ran out the door. We both have on-and-off dads.
Raven and Alexander were waiting by the Tefé River for Sofia and the mysterious buyer. "Sofia's eighteen and selling nuclear codes with her dad?" Whistler shook his head while Raven spotted her.
Sofia's lanky body walked alongside the shore as Raven and Whistler followed. Suddenly, Sofia stopped, the buyer approaching her. "Whistler, remember when our Jeep driver tried to kill us prior to our encounter with Augusto?" Originally, a driver was taking them to the safe house, but tried to crash the car and ran off. Shortly after, Augusto also tried to kill them, but the FALLOUT agents kidnapped him.
She pointed at the buyer. "That's the driver."
"Crap."
The Driver-Buyer demanded the codes, but Sofia resisted, wanting something. Suddenly, the Driver-Buyer pulled out a gun, shooting her in the arm. "Move in, move!" Raven said, running towards them.
The man grabbed the codes, dashing off. Sofia, withering out on the sand, gasped. "The c-codes!" she choked out as Whistler checked for a pulse. She was bleeding, but she wasn't fatally injured.
"I'm going after him!" Raven took off running.
"Wait, Birdie!" Whistler called after her. Don't stop running, Raven had her gun out, eyes blazing with intent. She took the lone wolf role, often ditching her teammates to pursue the enemy.
She quickened her speed, remembering drills with Steel. Raven tackled the Driver-Buyer to the sandy ground, landing hard blows. The man's gun went off as Raven kicked it away. Bystanders around them ran off, screaming.
Raven put the gun to the Driver-Buyer's head. "I will shoot unless you give me the codes." The man didn't reply, so she pressed the trigger. A loud bang! went off as the man screamed.
No bullets.
With him distracted, Raven swiftly grabbed the nuclear codes from his pockets. Whistler ran off with his actual loaded gun, pointing it at the man. "Don't move." Police sirens blared as the man groaned.
"I got the codes." Raven held the nuclear codes up. "I could use an espresso."
