The first thing Dick was aware of, was his tiny hands.
Very very tiny hands.
His Baby hands.
His baby hands were in fact attached to a chubby baby-sized arm. Fallowed by a baby sized torso, baby legs and baby feet. If he could see his face or head they would probably be baby sized too.
He's a baby. How? He doesn't know, all he remembered was being on a mission with the titans, things happened, very painful things he might add, then everything went black.
Next thing he knew he was staring at the face of woman humming a tune and cradling him. Dick stared in amazement at her, the fuzzy feeling in his chest and recognition in her face, but Dick was sure he had never met this woman. When he tried to talk to her, nothing but a gurgle or coos came from his toothless mouth.
The woman giggled, a bright and up lifted noise that almost seemed dazzling. Her deep sapphire blue eyes reflected her joy. "My little Richard." She cooed kissing Dick on his nose. Dick found himself giggling, one of the few noises he could make. A lock of the woman's long honey brown hair fluttered into her face as a summer breeze drifted through the open window just out of Dick's eye sight. Dick's chubby little baby hand reached up and wrapped around the strand, pulling on it gently with amazement, assuming the woman.
Dick looked at her again. He understood who she was now. She was his mother, but not the mother he remembered, no this was not Mary Grayson.
He had been reborn.
--------------------------------------------
13 Years Later
Getting a second chance at life. That's what Richard got. Though, the world he had been reborn into was void of superheroes, he couldn't be happier. He missed being a vigilante, he missed being Nightwing. He missed his old family too. Bruce, Alfred, Jason, Tim, Damian, Steph, Barbara, Cass, Kate, everyone.
Why he was reborn with all the memories of his past life, he had no clue.
His memories weren't the only thing he retained. His body was very similar as well. He was still very flexible like the acrobat he was. He still had his stunning blue eyes, that he found was a similar shade to his new mother's, same thick ebony locks that liked to curl and frame his face. Although his skin was a different tone, instead of the golden tinted olive he had before, he was now fair skinned.
He found he looked a lot like his new parents. His father's dark hair and sharp features, his mother's soft eyes and fair skin. Both his parents were tall, his father at 6'4 and his mother at 5'8. He'd probably grow to near his dad's height, making him taller then he had been in his past life, not that he was complaining.
For the first few years of his life, he battled himself, determining if s
When he started school, he excelled. Understandably so, because of his memories. I mean, he was a grown man in the body of a child. (... Um, there's no good way to word that.)
Before he knew it, he had graduated to middle school, then high school at the age of 13. Yup. Just like in his previous life. Although around this time he was already Robin, and his parents had passed away. None of which had happened in this world, and that he was grateful for. He wasn't even born into a big city actually. It was an average suburb town. Rather peaceful. A huge contrast to the city of Gotham that he grew up in. His family was just above middle class, thanks to his dad's job as a doctor, and his mom's job as a physician.
Richard loved his parents, but never forgetting the people in his last life. Though over the years, some people's faces had gotten fuzzy, and past experiences had become too blurry to remember clearly, or forgotten all together without reminders or consequences. Such as the scars that once littered his body as a reminder. They were no longer there.
He WAS surprised to find out he had a sister. She was a few years older then him. Her name was Stephanie. She was six when he was born. Just like Richard, she looked like a well blended mix of their parents. Sharing the same ebony locks as their father, but she had her mother's softer features, such as a heart shaped face, soft yet sapphire like blue eyes. This Stephanie, was not his Stephanie that
he could tell. She bared no resemblance and her personality was different.
When Richard graduated High school at the age of 16, he went to college, determined to become a cop, despite his father's wishes to become a doctor like the rest of his family. Even Steph had become a ophthalmologist. (an eye doctor) However his sense of justice didn't leave him, even when he knew he was no longer Nightwing. Nonetheless his family were all proud the day Richard graduated college with an associate's degree, and 14 weeks of Police Training Academy. His mother got all teary-eyed saying her baby was all grown up. His father congratulated him with a "manly" hug, and Steph also gave him a I'm-so-proud-of-my-baby-bro hug.
So that pretty much sums up Richard's life up until this point, moving into his New York flat, being the top of his class at the police academy and he had been assigned to the New York Police department.
"It's a beautiful place, Dick." Steph said watching as her brother set down a rather heavy box on the newly assembled dining room table. Dick nodded with a proud grin spread across his lips. "I'm just worried about location." His mother frowned, having entered the room also carrying a heavy looking box. "Let me get that Mom." Dick jumped, taking the heavy box from his mom's arms before she could protest. When she opened her mouth to scold him that she could handle it and wasn't an old lady, Dick grinned and cut her off, "Don't worry Mom, it's on the better side of New York. The station is only a 10 minute bike ride as well." Dick said setting the box down with the other.
His mom sighed, just as they heard sirens going by and the flicker of emergency lights danced across the window. She gave a pointed look to Dick. "What? Emergency vehicles are everywhere in big cities!" Dick whined, still smiling though. His mom shook her head, crossing her arms. Dick actually found the city charming and nostalgic. Sure, it was no Gotham, but it was still a welcome aesthetic. "I've never been a fan of big cities myself." His mother said with a shrug, then she grimaced, "Too many people." Which made Dick laugh. "I suppose." He agreed.
"Suppose what?" Dick's dad grunted as he shimmied the door open with his shoulder, his arms holding multiple smaller boxes. "Mom's complaining about the city." Steph said from her seat at the kitchen table, already hungrily looking at the pizza they had picked up for lunch. "Stay out of the pizza piggy." Dick joked, nearly losing his head to a vicious roll
Of paper towels. "It's a joke!" Dick howled in laughter as his sister glared at him. His mother smiled and shook her head at her children's antics.
"This is the last of it. Need help unpacking?" His father set down the few smaller boxes he had been carrying and placed his hands on his hips. Dick smiled gratefully, "Nope, I can do that later, thanks for all the help." Dick smiled, then looked over at his sister shaking his head to find her already digging into the pizza. "We better eat before piggy eats it all." Dick laughed, dodging an empty box aimed for his head.
--------------------------
Couple days later
Dick entered the New York police station, an enthusiastic smile adorning his face. Following the orders he had received for his first day, he found himself standing in front of a young woman, her sharp, crisp police uniform without a single blemish or stain. Her red hair was pulled back into a bun and restrained by hair gel. Which Dick found a shame that their dress code forced that, cause he mused her hair was probably quiet beautiful when it was free to breath. She reminded him of Babs.
"Hi, I'm Richard Grayson, I was told to find Chief Drake?" Dick chirped, never losing his pearly smile. The woman stared in awe at him, like he was a walking God or something. She subconsciously oogled him, which only made Dick smirk. After it went on for about a solid minute Dick decided to put an end to it by clearing his throat. The woman's face instantly went red as she realized she had been staring.
"Erm, his office is on the second floor. Just straight up the stairs there, take a left. Last door at the end of the hall. Can't miss it." The woman sputtered, with the blush still dusting her cheeks. "Thanks." Dick replied politely started for the stairs. "No problem, good luck." She said after him, but just before Dick got out of range he heard her turn to her coworkers with a , "Oh my god did you see him?" Which made Dick chuckle.
When Dick found himself standing in front of the door, eye skimming the golden plaque that read Chief Drake, he was suddenly as nervous as a senior just out of the gates of high school and into the wild world outside. His hand reached up and knocked.A grunted, "Come in." Was replied. Taking a deep breath he entered into the office.
An older man sat at the desk, staring at his laptop. His hair beginning to lose its battle with time both in color and thickness. There wasn't a bald spot yet, but give it a couple years and their could be. Dick couldn't help the sigh of relief that escaped him. It wasn't his Drake either. Though he found it weird that so many names from his last life were popping up. He supposed they were common enough names.
The man cleared his throat, adjusting his glasses back from barely hanging onto his nose back to rest over his eyes. A thick mustache hiding is upper lip and a five-O'-clock shadow dusting his cheeks and chin.
"You must be Grayson, the new recruit." Is voice was deep and slightly gravelly. Nothing compared to the marble-jumblings like the Batman.
Dick closed the distance between the doorway and his desk. "Uh yes sir! I was told to introduce myself to you for assignment." Dick said quickly, noticing the mans lack of patience, and the four empty coffee cups discarded in the trash bin just to Dick's right. The chief picked up his work-In-Progress 5th cup and sucked in a mouth full before setting it down and nodding.
"Correct, though I expected you sooner." The chief said flipping through more papers, as if the new recruit before him was nothing more then a fly on the wall. Dick sneaked a glance at the clock wall just behind him reading; 8:05. He then returned his gaze to the chief once more.
"Sorry about that, I'm not used to New York streets yet, it took me awhile to find my way." Dick said sheepishly. The chief huffed then picked up his phone. He dialed a number quickly, and waited as it rung.
"The is the Chief, send someone to my office. I have a new recruit that needs to be shown around." And with that brisk command the phone was placed down, ending the call. He then continued to hand Dick a few papers. "Have these in by Wednesday. ON TIME Mr.Grayson." The chief shot him a look and Dick quickly took the papers sheepishly.
"I'm not even in that department why am I-" Before Dick could even try to defend himself the door was swung open and someone was pushed in. When Dick looked over his shoulder at the person he froze. As did they mid sentence.
The silence hung in the air until the chief finally spoke. "West. What are you doing here? I told them to send someone, but I meant from General not Forensic." His brows knit together and some invisible age lines had made themselves clear amongst his facial features, however Dick was too occupied, staring at the first face he's recognized within his reincarnated life.
"Uh, I, Uh, tried to tell them that sir. I was on my way to go pick up some breakfast and I got tagged in I guess." The red head shrugged.
The chief rolled his honey brown eyes in annoyance, mumbling something about 'lazy bastards' when he sighed. "West this is the new recruit Grayson. Grayson meet one of our forensic scientists Wally West." Díck opened his mouth to respond, but found to words were even touching his lips. "Nice to meet you." Wally shook his hand seemingly unaffected my whose hand he was shaking.
"Just show him around his section West. Introduce him to his partner, he's been assigned to Rohrbach." The chief waved them out, while his other hand began to start writing on just one of the many papers on his desk. "Yes sir. Fallow me." Wally said turning on his head and gesturing with his head for Dick to fallow him.
A million questions ran through Dick's mind as he bore a hole through the back of Wally's back. They were currently just making down yet another hallway. Why was Wally here? Did he not recognize him? No recognition was in his eyes when they shook hands. Was it really his Wally? Maybe someone who shared the same name, like with Stephanie and Chief Drake. That didn't explain why he looked and sounded just like his Wally.
With his thoughts racing a mile a minute he failed to notice Wally had stopped, and rand face first into Wally's broad back with an almost unmanly "Oof!" Almost throwing Dick off balance, but he caught himself.
Before Dick could mumble an apology or even mouth a syllable, arms wrapped around him and pulled him into a hug.
"I've missed you so much."
