Daybreak
I woke up to the smell of breakfast filling my senses.
"Meat?" I said to myself. I sat up in my night-themed bed. I shook my mane to get it back to the flowy style that it always has... I mean, having a bed-head style didn't really affect me. My mane was already messy- And all over the place...
I trotted from my room to the downstairs.
I looked to the kitchen and I saw Blackberry making breakfast... He was making pancakes with blueberries, bacon, eggs and sausage. I tilted my head... 'Why was he doing this?' I asked myself in my head.
"Hey! I thought I might as well make breakfast for you since you let me stay here. It's my way of saying thanks." He beamed. I hid under my mane in a shy way...
"It really was no big deal. You didn't have to do this... But, thanks." I slowly lifted my head to see him nodding in delight. I trotted over to him as I seen he was multitasking with the food.
"I never got your name, miss." Blackberry turned to me. My mind went blank... I wasn't prepared.. I wasn't prepared... No, no, no... I was panicking over the smallest thing... What if he saw me panicking? I've got to act like I'm not panicking and remember my name... It's such a small thing... Why is this a big deal?
I backed away a little, but caught myself. "U-Um.. 'Tis Shadow." I avoided eye-contact. Hopefully he didn't notice. Hopefully I didn't make a bad impression. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake. 'So I've got nothing to share... So I've got nothing to say...' Hopefully he didn't notice. Please don't notice.
...Did I reach you?
"Well then. Hello Miss Shadow." He slightly waved. He then turned back to cooking...
"Could I help?" I asked. I then put a chef hat on top of Blackberry. I slightly smiled. 'When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound? Did I even make a sound? Did I even make a sound? It's like I never made a sound, will I ever make a sound?' I felt like my words meant nothing. I felt like I didn't have a voice. I felt like nopony could hear me. I felt like nothing to nopony.
"Sure! Even though this was supposed to be a gift for you, a little help wouldn't ruin it." Blackberry handed me a spatula. I would be handling the bacon... The meat... The best part.
'Will I ever be more than I've always been?' I try to speak but nopony can hear... I'm just watching them, while they can't see me because I'm invisible.
I've always been invisible, haven't I?
When this pony came... I felt like there was a connection. Not a crush, but like... A father - daughter connection. It's like when he entered, a piece of me was restored... ...It was like he was family. I missed my family so much.
I forgot what it was like to have a family besides my friends. I forgot what it felt like to have someone to look up to... Someone to care for you... Someone to help you even when you're helpless.
...I wanted him to stay, but I know he wouldn't.
I flipped the bacon at the appreciate time while Blackberry was off flipping the pancakes and doing finishing touches.
"There! The bacon should be finished, just put them on the plates." Blackberry instructed as he had set up the plates with the food at the edge of the working space.
I put the bacon on each plate and with that, we both went over to the dining room and took a seat.
