Love is a very weird thing. Sometimes it's happy, sometimes it's sad other times it's funny and on some rare occasions, it's beautiful. Not that I know much about love considering I've never actually been in love but from what I've seen, it can vary. For example take my friend Joey, her relationship with her boyfriend is very secretive but that works for her. And my best friend Alex she's either arguing passionately with her boyfriend or making out passionately with her boyfriend, either way I always get caught in the middle. The middle of the arguments not the making out.

"First day of senior year... already over" my friend Dani said. We were walking together down the hall towards the door since school was over,

"Yup," I agreed

"So many things to look forward to.." she continued

"And so many things we're glad to leave behind," I finished

She squeezed my shoulder before grinning "And then there's the pact,"

I rolled my eyes and gave her a look. Back in freshman year, we (being me, Dani and the rest of our friends) made a pact that each of us would find a boyfriend or girlfriend before high school ends or else we have to streak the quad it was juvenile but we were fourteen, juvenile was kind of our brand. Just then a girl came down the hall stopping in front of us

"Hi," she greeted "You're Erica right?"

"The one and only ," I answered

"So my friend um Julia she told me that I could come to you for uh advice, "

"Sure lay it on me,"

This wasn't uncommon, people came to me for random advice a lot... I don't really know why, but I guess it was good because people kept coming back. It started in freshman year when I was helping Alex with a particular problem (her boyfriend Ty) when someone overheard me and asked me for advice about their boyfriend and since then people came to me. Over the years the amount of people who just randomly asked me for advice grew, but I guess you had to consider the fact that I was also the girl who always had spare gum. I don't really think of it as something big, people have problems and I can solve it actually makes me feel quite accomplished.

"You wanna come over?" Dani asked

"Babysitting," I answered

"I don't know what you're always complaining about Angie's adorable,"

"You're only saying that because you don't live with her," I said

Dani simply smiled and said she would catch up with me later. I walked out of the door and began the journey home when someone came up to me slowing to my pace when he reached me

"You never told me that you were babysitting," he said panting slightly

"Hi to you to Addy, "

"I've told you like a million times to stop calling me that," he said rolling his eyes

I smiled and nudged his shoulder "It's cute and you know it,"

He muttered under his breath and we continued walking in silence. I didn't mind though it was always comfortable silence when I was with Addy (or Adil because that was his actual name) he was and still is the best guy friend that I have. Our siblings are friends so whenever any of us had to babysit we would always do it together, don't get me wrong he was no Alex but he was always nice to have him around.

"So, last year of high school," he said

"Yup I-" I started when a voice shouted from behind me

"You idiots didn't really leave me behind did you?" it screamed

"Alex," we both chorused

Alex Adebayo. My best friend since I was five years old , loud, boisterous and unpredictable at its finest... but the most fun person I know and that's counting Joey.

"So, what are you freaks up to?" she asked

"Babysitting," I answered

She nodded and began talking . We went to my house first, to pick up my sister before heading to Adil's to drop her off with his mom who was thankfully home.

"I guess we will have time for coffee," I voiced

"Do you think we should invite Dani?" Addy grinned

"Are you mad?" Alex exclaimed "You know how she feels about Starbucks," she finished

"Which will make this all the more fun," he said

"I think Joey's rubbing off on you," I muttered

"Whatever you're planning sha leave me out of it, I'm not having Dani vexed at me," Alex admitted

I shrugged and we all decided to go for coffee anyway, we didn't have a dumb vendetta against Starbucks ... and American coffee in general.

Once we had got there and sat at the table, it quickly settled into silence which was unusually uncomfortable. We all didn't want to talk about the impending fact that we were all going to different universities. Adil was going to Oxford in the UK, Alex was going to MIT and Dani was going all the way to Italy while I had no idea where I was going to go. My applications have been sent but unlike some other people I haven't gotten any replies...

"Ok so we're not going to discuss this?" Alex asked

Addy looked away while I tapped my fingers on the table.

"Ok I know that we're all scared because we're splitting up and going our separate ways after this year but... we're still here right now, we're alive, young and hot . So I propose a send off. We do one last thing to blow everyone out of the water before we well you know.. " she trailed off giving us both a hopeful look. I looked at the table, Alex's plans never ended in something good. I guess that Alex sensed my distrust because she glared at me and shoved her wrist in my face, the bracelet on it jingling, "12 years," she said her eyes narrowed. I sighed holding up the matching one on my wrist "Yeah I know, " I replied

"Feeling kind of like a third wheel here," Addy remarked

I ignored him facing Alex "Despite your inherent craziness, your plan doesn't sound too bad so I guess..." I started

She squealed in delight and hugged me tightly over the table causing it to shake slightly thanking me repeatedly while I patted her back.

"Ok as much as I love touching moments, I thought we came here for coffee," Addy stated.

"Yeah ok whatever Addy," Alex drawled

He rolled his eyes and called over a waitress beginning to order.

"Hey how about a toast," Alex proposed once our coffee arrived

I smiled before answering "To the beginning of the end," I said raising my cup

"To the beginning of the end," Adil and Alex chorused
