Chapter 55

*** Flashback 3 ***

"Baby." He answered after two rings.

"She doesn't want me to marry you. She said if I don't break it off. I can forget about her". I sniffed moving my phone to my other ear.

"And who told her that it was her decision to make?"

"I don't want to go against her Hunter. She's my mom." I said sniffing again. "I love her."

He stayed silent.

"The fact that she can so easily manipulate you will be a pain in my ass. I know it."

"She is my mother." I said and he scoffed.

"Don't do that. I don't want to destroy my relationship with her." I said getting angry that he couldn't understand.

"Okay. I will talk to her."

"No." I gasped. "It will only make things worst."

"I'm coming."

"What?" I gasped. "Hunter, I said no."

"I'm coming." He said in a final tone before hanging up.

Oh God, no.

I tried calling him back but he sent me straight to voicemail. I tried again but the same thing happened.

God! What is he going to do. Come here. Then what? Give my mom a heart attack?

I anxiously paced in my room while calling him repeatedly.

I groaned and ran down the stairs not wanting my mom to hear the bell when he comes.

I stood by the living-room windows until I saw his car parking in front of the house.
I quickly went to the front door to open it and saw him standing there with a cold expression.

"Hunter please. You can't be here. Let me fix this on my own."

"If I let you fix this. Then you will end up listening to her. I am not letting that happen." He said walking past me.
"Now go tell your mom I'm here".

I stood there trying not to panic as I watch him go in the living-room.
I followed him. He turned and looked at me seriously.

"Go call your mo-". He stopped talking when my mom walked in, startling me.

"What's going in here!?" My mom said as she walked in with her gaze fixated on Hunter than me.
"What are you doing in my house?"

Hunter looked at her while casually taking a seat.

"I came to see what kind of mother would emotionally blackmail their own daughter." He said casually.

"How dare you?"

"No." He snapped. "How dare you? Do you not care enough about her to realize the impact your words have on her?"

"Don't tell me what to do with my daughter." She said angrily almost turning red.
"I want the best for her."

"Interesting." He nodded scratching his chin.
"And what is the best for her?" He asked teasingly.

"None of your business. I just want you to stay away from her."

"It is my business. Your daughter is my business." He said coldly looking at her hardly.

"I am her mother. I know what's good for her." She snapped before glaring at him.
"I want you to stay away from my daughter. She is going to break it off with you." She said.

Hunter briefly moved his gaze to me.

I couldn't even speak. I was a shaking mess. I never I would be in this kind of situation.

"Tell him, Stella. Tell him to leave our house. I want you to tell him that whatever you two had is over." She said looking at me and my tears eyes stayed glued on Hunter.

I know my mom would never do anything if it wasn't good for me. She's my mom. She is the one person that is supposed to love me, no matter what.

Hunter and I just kept staring at each other not saying anything.

"Tell hon to leave, Stella. Trust me he can have other women if he wants to. But I can't have another daughter. Even if I wanted to. You're replaceable to him, but not to me." She said when she saw that I wasn't moving.

She sighed before walking closer to me as more tears started coming out of my eyes.

"I'll wait for you in the office." She said walking away after glaring at Hunter again.
"We don't have anything to say to each other. I hope this the last time I see you."

Hunter looked at her hardly and I saw her stiffen. And I thought I saw her her gulp.

"Don't count on it." He said coldly.

She turned and quickly walked out of the living-room.
When she left, I didn't move. I just stayed there. Hunter didn't move either.

"That woman," he started pointing at the hallway, "has a hold on you. And a bad one. She is manipulating you. And you are too naive to see it."

I shook my head wiping my tears. "She is my mother. Don't talk about her like that. She wants the best for me."

"The best for you?" He laughed sarcastically. "So you are going to break up with me?" He asked looking at me intently.

"Hun-"

"Are you breaking up with me? It's a yes or no question." He repeated hardly while moving closer to me.
"Are you?" He asked invading my personal space.

I looked up at him. His expression was hard and his body looked tensed.

"No." I said and he let out a small breath.

"Good, because that's the only answer I'm willing to accept."

"But she is my mother. I just can't turn my back on her." I cried while stroking his cheek.
"Just let me keep talking to her."

"And if she still doesn't listen?" He asked clenching his jaw.
"If she asks you to choose again."

I sighed lowering my gaze. "She is my mother."

"I see." He said coldly taking a step back.
"You do things your way. Be as nice to her as you can, because I will arrange this thing my way." He said and I look up at him.

"What are you going to do? Hunter, I know wh-"

"Like I said. You leaving me is not an choice I'm willing to accept." He said coldly while walking to the front door.

I shook my head and quickly followed him, as he stepped out of the house.

"Hunter, wait." I called grabbing his arm. "Please don't leave like this." I said wrapping my arms around him.
"I'm sure she will come around."

"I know she will." He simply said and moved my face from his chest to look at him.

"Just let me deal with her." I said pleadingly.

"Like I said you do things your way, and I'll do things my way." He said.

"She is not a bad person. I think she just doesn't know you yet. Just give her time."

"I would have if I was a patient man. But I am not." He said kissing my forehead.
"Try to sleep. I'll call you tomorrow." He said walking to his car.

"I love you." I said and he stopped just as he was about to get in his car.

I stood there hoping he would reply.

"I love you." He replied before getting in his car.

I smiled lightly before making my way back inside the house.
