Manik's words were like a dagger to Nandini's heart, each one piercing her deeply. "She's amazing, Nandini. Everything you're not," he said, his voice devoid of any warmth or affection.

Nandini felt a wave of sadness wash over her. How could he speak to her like this, especially after everything they had been through together? "How can you say that?" she whispered, her voice filled with hurt and disbelief.

Meanwhile, in the dimly lit jail cell, the reality of their situation began to sink in. The jail constables tossed them their meager dinner—a dry bread with a shallot and green chili. Manik's expression turned to one of disgust as he pushed the plate away. "I refuse to eat this disgusting food," he declared, his tone haughty and dismissive.

Nandini, feeling a mix of hunger and sorrow, picked up the bread and took a small bite. "We shouldn't disrespect food, Manik. It's a blessing to have something to eat," she said softly, her voice tinged with resignation.

Manik rolled his eyes. "Oh, come on, Nandini. Don't be so melodramatic," he scoffed, his attempt to brush off her words only serving to deepen her pain.

As the night wore on, a heavy silence settled between them. Nandini couldn't help but feel a profound sense of betrayal. How could the man she once loved speak to her with such cruelty? And yet, despite everything, a part of her still longed for his love, still hoped that he would come to his senses and realize the mistake he was making.

In the cramped, dimly lit jail cell, the air was thick with tension and the acrid smell of fear. The police had brought in another man who had harassed a woman, and his presence only added to the palpable unease that filled the space.

The man's eyes locked onto Nandini, his gaze predatory and unsettling. She could feel his stare like a physical touch, sending shivers down her spine. She shifted uncomfortably, trying to avoid his gaze, but he moved closer, his intentions clear.

Ignoring the warning glares from the other inmates, the man approached Nandini with a lecherous grin, his words dripping with malice. He reached out to touch her, but before he could, Manik intervened.

With a swift and powerful punch, Manik struck the man squarely in the jaw, sending him reeling backward with a cry of pain. Blood trickled from the man's nose as he stumbled away, casting fearful glances at Manik.

Breathing heavily, Manik turned to Nandini, his eyes blazing with a mixture of anger and protectiveness. "Stay away from my wife," he growled, his voice low and menacing. Nandini felt a rush of gratitude and admiration for him, overwhelmed by his bravery and the depth of his emotions.

As the commotion died down and the man retreated to a corner, Manik's eyes narrowed, his voice cold and threatening. "If you ever come near her again, I'll break every tooth in your mouth," he warned, his words laced with a fierce determination to protect Nandini at all costs.

In that moment, Nandini realized the depth of Manik's love for her, and despite everything that had happened between them, she knew that she still loved him too. Maybe, just maybe, there was hope for them yet.

Nandini's words carried a bitter edge as she sarcastically referred to herself as Manik's wife, her tone laden with hurt and resentment.

"I'm your wife now, huh?" she retorted, her voice tinged with sarcasm.

She moved closer to him, her hands instinctively reaching out to touch him, a gesture seeking both comfort and connection.

"Why are you doing this, Manik?" she pleaded, her voice cracking with emotion. "Can't you see I'm trying to--"

But before she could finish, Manik's reaction was sharp, his features hardening as he recoiled from her touch.

"Don't touch me," he snapped, his tone cold and dismissive.

His disgust was palpable as he accused her of inappropriate behavior, his words cutting deep into Nandini's already wounded heart.

"I was just trying to show you--" she began, her voice trembling with hurt and confusion.

But Manik cut her off, his words like a knife to her heart.

"Just leave me alone, Nandini," he said, his voice dripping with disdain. "I don't need your gratitude or your pity."

With that, he turned away, leaving Nandini standing alone, her heart heavy with regret.

Alone in the dimly lit cell, Nandini sank to the floor, her body racked with sobs, the weight of her emotions too much to bear.

The sound of her cries filled the empty cell, a haunting melody of heartbreak and regret.

Nandini, her emotions raw and unfiltered, grabbed Manik by the collar, her eyes burning with a mixture of anger and hurt.

"Why are you doing this, Manik?" she demanded, her voice trembling with emotion. "Why are you pushing me away?"

Manik's expression was unreadable as he replied, "I have a girlfriend now, Nandini. I need to be loyal to her."

Nandini let out a bitter laugh, her eyes flashing with contempt. "Loyal? You weren't even able to be loyal to your wife, Manik," she mocked, her words laced with sarcasm.

Manik's jaw clenched, his patience wearing thin. "Shut up, Nandini," he snapped, his voice sharp and commanding.

But Nandini was not deterred. "I'll make her life miserable, you know," she threatened, her voice low and dangerous.

Manik's eyes narrowed, a flicker of anger crossing his face. "If you lay a finger on her, I'll make sure you regret it," he warned, his voice cold and menacing.

As the tension between them simmered, Nandini felt a surge of defiance. She knew she had nothing left to lose.

"I may not be able to touch her," she said, her voice dripping with venom, "but I can sure as hell make her regret the day she met you."

With that, she turned away, leaving Manik standing alone in the darkness, his heart heavy with the weight of his decisions. The lines between love and hate blurred, leaving them both on the edge of a precipice, unsure of what the future held.

With a final glare, Nandini turned away, feeling the weight of betrayal heavy on her heart. The air in the cell crackled with tension as they stood on the brink of a confrontation neither of them wanted.
