Military AU (Bill S. Preston)

For 80sweirdo. Omg I'm so sorry this took so long!!!! I hope you enjoy it!!!

Imagine meeting Bill in Military School

Your hair was shaved and short, your uniform all in order: a white shirt, greenish overcoat, and camouflage pants, and your brown boots were buckled up to mid-calf.

You stood in a line, arms behind your back and chin tilted up, almost oblivious to the rain pounding down, soaking every inch of you.

As a whistle blew, you tore off through an obstacle course at Oats Military Academy, throwing yourself through the cold, slick mud underneath a wire rack, and scaling a 10 foot wall with a rope.

At the top of the barrier, your muddy shoes slipped against the steely texture of the wall and you fell. You landed pretty hard on a young man, whose blond curls were matted to his face from the rain.

"Sorry, sorry," you muttered, testing your weight as you stood up. His eye was already swelling; you must have kicked him in the face on your way down.

His hand cupped his bruising eye, so you offered a hand to him, but no sooner did you hold it out did another body crash into you from above. The force knocked you right into the blond, who fell backward into the mud.

It was his friend who fell on you, you knew that much. You'd recognize his awkwardly cheerful demeanor anywhere.

"Sorry, dude," he mumbled, embarrassed. "I didn't see you."

Now muddy and bruised all over, the three of you tried to stand. The blond instantly put an arm around your back.

"How's your eye?" You asked, the first thing you'd ever said to this kid.

"Hurts," he winced.

You guided him over to Sergeant Saunders and saluted.

"At ease," Saunders replied, "You two'd better he that checked out. Logan!"

The black haired kid who fell on you jumped, then fumbled his way into a salute. "Sir, yes sir!"

"Escort these two to Doctor Feldman,"

Ted Logan nodded.

You made your way to the doctor, and sat there almost needlessly. It was a simple ankle twist. You knew you'd be fine in 20 minutes anyway. You stayed for the blond, though. His eye look seriously messed up. You must've gotten him with your heel, never his eye was puffy and had little cuts around it that you could see now that you were in the light.

"What's your name?" You finally asked him.

"Bill. Bill S. Preston, Esquire. This is my best friend, Ted 'Theodore' Logan. What about you?"

You introduced yourself and shook hands.

"So what are you here for?" Bill asked, finally holding the ice pack against his bad eye. The noise he made didn't sound human.

"I want to go into the Marines."

Ted nodded as he thought about your answer.

"My dad made me go," he muttered, agitation apparent in his voice.

Bill put a hand on Ted's shoulder,
"I came because of him."

There was silence for a while before Bill interrupted it with another sigh of relief as he shifted the ice pack.

"How's your ankle?" He asked finally.

You moved your leg a little bit. "Not so bad anymore. It wasn't much, I think Saunders was just being nice."

You didn't exactly want to go back out in the rain, seeing how you were finally almost dry, but you knew you shouldn't really linger if you didn't have to.

You did like having the company though. They were some of your first friends there.

As time went on, you grew to like the boys more and more. Bill would always invite you to eat with them, and during sparring, he airways wanted to pair up. You started believing it was because he didn't want anyone to hurt you.

During a break one day, you took a walk with him on the very edge of school grounds. Alaska was beautiful, and it was just beginning to snow.

You didn't want to admit it, but Bill looked absolutely amazing with little snowflakes in his eyelashes and the sight made your stomach swoop.

Not long after that, Bill stopped walking.

"You know, dude," he started, staring down at his own footprints in the snow. His voice was lower than usual.
"I don't know how long I'm gonna stay at Oats. I know you're definitely gonna get accepted to the Marines, but as for me? I'm not sure if this is what I'm going to do with my future, you know?"

His voice. Your heart was breaking. His little embarrassed breaths swirled in the winter air.

"What I'm trying to say, I guess, is..." he looked at you, then to the ground, then at your arms, where he stayed. "I thought military school was gonna be bogus. And most of the time, it is. But when you're around.... it's... not."

He scuffed the ground with his foot. "You make it non-non-non-heinous. You.... You make... I mean... ughh, I'm screwing this up, I'm sorry."

His face went red and he turned away to head back to the base when you grabbed him by his coat sleeve.

"Keep going," you encouraged, a giddy smile threatening to break out on your face.

He gathered himself. "I guess what I'm getting at is... I like you. And I don't know what's gonna happen in the future with the military and stuff... so, uh.... you wanna.....?"

He scratched the back of his head. When he looked up again, you caught his coat collar and pulled him towards you for a kiss. He jumped back like he was set on fire.

"Bill. Yes." You said, grinning. He didn't even need to finish the question; you already knew what he meant.

"Excellent," he breathed in relief. "So can I kiss you again?"

"It would be most non-non-non-heinous if you did."
