5: Mysterious past
Near at the forest meadow (A/n: Remember from chapter 1)
Author's pov:
"What was your emergency, Carbine? Why do you look so terrified?" Harley said and walked to her friend who was sitting on a rock. Carbine had called Harley there after the scene with Vinnie and the other Biker Mice. Both of them had left their bikes near the edge of the forest, to a hidden place that no-one could find and guess where their owners were.
"The New guy.. Vinnie said something that made me almost fall down in front of the others.." Carbine said making Harley jump a bit and lift her eyebrows but without Carbine noticed it. She just stared at the ground and her hands. Harley sat next to her and lifted her hand on her shoulder. "That must be a big thing.. Want to talk about it?" She asked gently and tried to cheer up her friend. Those two females had known each other since they were just a little kids, they had been best friends ever since.
"You know that you can tell me everything, Carbine.. And I won't tell your stuff to others. We have our promise, remember?" Harley said and smiled a bit. Carbine smiled a bit too while looking at her. Both of them had remembered the promise they had made when they were five years old. "There shall never be secrets between us.." Carbine started and Harley continued "Never ever, or the monster of the Martian mines shall eat our tails!" Both of them ended up laughing at that promise.
"That might be childish, but it's our deal we'd never break" Carbine sighed which after Harley coughed and pretended to be hurt while getting up. "Well excuse me, General! Who do you call childish?" Harley said and then both of them ended up laughing again. But then Carbine turned to look back down the ground when remembering Vinnie's words.
"I guess you called me here to talk about what happened.. So would you please tell me so I'd help you?" Harley said and sat back down to the rock. "I know that Vinnie meant it as a joke but it still hurt me.. It brought back so bad memories that I thought I had already forgot.." Carbine started and then continued "But you need to promise me that you won't ever tell these things to anyone.. Especially when a tough general like me acts like this.." Carbine said but then Harley smiled at her making her raise her eyebrows as a sign of confusion.
"You know that already! I would never tell your stuff to anyone and I already know your soft side.. You have nothing to pretend to be when you are with me.. And the same thing should be with Throttle! Am I right if I guess that Vinnie said something including him?" Harley said making Carbine nod slowly.
"He joked that Throttle and I are friends with benefits.. After hearing that our thing is complicated.." Carbine said making Harley cross her hands. She was clearly thinking something. "You said you knew that was a joke, right? So what's the problem? That's so Vinnie-like-joke.. Even if it isn't the nicest one!" Harley said making Carbine to be more confused.
"How do you know his jokes so well already? Are you guys a thing?" Carbine said and turned to look at her friend. "D- Do NOT change the subject!!" Harley panicked but Carbine saw through her. "Spit it out.. That's an order!" Carbine smirked making Harley growl. "You use your title wrong, General.." Harley laughed but then continued "You know he is a flirty guy.. Right?"
"Oh do I? That all started when he first flirted at me! He must be flirting with every female he sees!" Carbine chuckled making Harley a little bit hurt. "Oh.. Harley.. Are you.. Do you have a crush on him?" She asked gently and immediately regret what she had said just a moment ago. "I might have.. But you are right.. Since he is flirting with every girl, how could I ever know if he even likes me?" She asked and kicked a small rock to the bushes. There was no sound that it never landed to the ground. Harley didn't notice it but Carbine surely did. Her senses tensed up immediately but instead of doing anything, she just continued chatting with her friend.
"You need to ask him.. Or I can do it for you! But I'm sure that even tough guys, like him, have the soft side and the weak points.. He'll make you know his feelings somehow!" Carbine said making Harley smile a bit. "But what was the thing that made you so hurt? It must be big deal since you called me here with an emergency text.." Harley said making Carbine sigh.
"You know Scabbard.. right?" Carbine started making this time Harley confused. "The Sergeant Scabbard?" She asked making Carbine nod. "He really hasn't earned that title but yes, him.." Carbine said with anger in her voice. "How? I remember that he saved you back then.. And that's why the Commander in Chief promoted him.." Harley said making Carbine growl.
"He saved me.. From himself!" Carbine spitted out and lifted her hands on her face while leaning forward. "C-Carbine.. What do you mean..." Harley said but got no answer. "Carbine.. You make me scared now.. Tell me what happened back then.." She said and looked at her friend worriedly.
Timeskip: Few years earlier at the streets of Brimstone
Carbine's flashback
"It was late evening. I had just left the training school.. I was still at the soldiers training and you know why I went to Brimstone's school instead of Moon Village's.." Carbine said. "Your uncle lived there and since he's so influential, it was better for your future to go to that school and live with him during the training." Harley said making Carbine nod.
"Yes.. But right after I had graduated, I moved right back to Moon village instead of staying there.. And the next thing is one of the biggest reasons for it.." Carbine said making Harley confused. "But you told me that you wanted to come back home even if Brimstone had so much more to offer you! Your future was already planned there! You never told me that there were other reasons.. Carbine.." Harley said but before she continued, Carbine spoke over her. "Well after I have finished, you know why I never told this to anyone until now.." She said and then continued speaking.
"It was late evening. I had just left the training school.. I was walking to my uncle's house which was just a couple kilometres away from the school. I hadn't got my first bike yet so there was no other way than to walk. I also thought that getting some fresh air after a tough day would be a good idea and help me to sleep better. But after what happened, instead of sleeping well, I just had nightmares for the next couple of years.. I still can't sleep well, Harley.." Carbine said making Harley turn to look at her again. She had been looking at the sky while listening carefully to her friend.
"But back then there were no attacks on the city.. What made you so terrified?" Harley asked even if she wasn't sure would she like to hear the answer. "Not the public ones.." Carbine answered making her friend more worried. "What do you mean? Carbine.. You really are scaring me right now.." She said and had a scared tone in her voice.
"When I was walking on the dark streets.. There were only a few street lights working that night.. I heard some footsteps behind me and first I thought that it was nothing.. So I kept walking.. I started humming because I thought that everything was alright.. But then I heard the footsteps fastening to me and I started to walk faster too. I also stopped humming and tried to hide to the dark spots but like there where I could still see something.." Carbine explained. She took a couple of deep breaths and then continued "I heard someone talking after I had hid. It was Scabbard.."
"'I know you are here somewhere, Carbine!' He said making me scared. It wasn't fun at all to follow me at that time and at first I thought it was just a joke. But it never meant to be.." Carbine explained. "Did he do something.." Harley said and some terrible thought wandered through her mind. "I saw him looking for me on the streets. I tried to sneak to somewhere safe since I had a bad feeling about this. Even if he was my mentor at the school, I never liked him and nowadays I hate him.." Carbine explained and while preparing a lantern since it was getting darker, she continued explaining. Harley could see that the darkness while talking about this, made Carbine tensed.
"I accidentally kicked my feet to a recycle bin which exposed my location immediately. He found me and pushed me against the wall without saying anything.." Carbine said and started shaking. Harley looked at her with a terrified expression on her face. It took a moment of silence from each of them before they could talk. "Did.. Did he try to rape you.." Harley said making Carbine only nod.
"But he didn't only try... Harley.." Carbine said and started sobbing. "He managed to do it.. Right there at the shady streets of the city of Brimstone.." She said sorrowfully making Harley also feel so much worry, fear and anger inside of her. "I fought back but without any result.. He was bigger and stronger than me.." Carbine said sadly and kept looking at the ground. Harley hugged her tightly and didn't let go.
Back to the reality
Author's pov:
"I'm right here Carbine.. And I'm so sorry.. If I had known this.." She said making Carbine sniff and shook her head. "I understand now so many things.. Thank you for telling me this.. But may I ask you something?" Harley said and then ended the hug. Carbine turned to look at her and whipped her tears away. "Sure.." She just said and then Harley continued. "Do you know why he did it? Does anyone else know about this? Is he punished? And what you meant about the promotion.." She said making Carbine sigh.
"Earlier that day he had told me about having feelings for me but since I had rejected him.. He told me that he had if I wont take him in a good way I'll take him in a bad way.. And no-one except you now, knows about this.." Carbine said and then another deep breath before continuing. "After he had finished.. And I had fallen on the ground weakly.. Two soldiers from the military forces had been walking around the streets.. Scabbard had faked a scene that someone had just attacked me and told one of the guys that the attacker had gone another way.. One stayed with him to help me to get safe. I had accidentally hit my head to the wall while falling.. Scabbard told that the attacker had caused it. And when my uncle and the Commander in Chief got to know about the 'attack', he got his promotion to sergeant because he had acted so 'well'.." Carbine said making Harley's anger just grow.
"HOW CAN A MOUSE EVER GO SO LOW?!" She said in anger. "He is just a dick that should never be in the army forces.." Carbine said and then sighed again. But then she talked again, but with a much louder voice. "You can come out now, Vinnie! I know you are right there.." Carbine said making Harley freeze.
"What do you mean? There's just two of us?" She said while looking around them. "Remember the rock you threw earlier.. It never landed on the ground.. That was the last point making me notice him.. Like I had noticed him already earlier!" Carbine said and got up from the rock. "I know you can hear me! Come right here or do you want me to come over there?!" She shouted making Vinnie walk from behind the bushes and trees.
"How long have you been there?!" Harley gasped and got up too. "The Whole time.." Carbine said making Vinnie feel awkward. He rubbed the back of his neck and kicked the ground. "When did you notice me, General..?" He managed to ask making Carbine chuckle. "I saw you driving behind me.. You aren't that good at shadowing, are you?" She said and lifted the lantern from the ground they had prepared earlier.
"And also.. Your white fur exposes you from the ground.." Carbine said making Vinnie feel even more awkward. "May I ask you something, General?" He asked politely but also shyly. He knew that he should behave now properly or this would be the last time he would take a breath. "You would ask it anyway so spit it out.." Carbine said making Vinnie take one step closer to them.
"If you knew I was there.. Why did you tell that personal story anyways?" He asked making Harley to turn look at her too. "So you would understand my actions earlier.." Carbine said and then got closer to Vinnie. "But if I hear a word about you have told that to anyone, I swear that your hell starts immediately!" She said while poking his chest.
"I swear that I won't tell that to anyone!!" Vinnie said and lifted his hands up as a sign of surrendering. "But if you were there whole that time.. You also heard.." Harley started to say but then shut her mouth and blushed a bit. "You two talking about me.. Yes.. I heard everything.." Vinnie said but then Carbine interrupted them. "Talk about that later.. We all should head back home now.." She said and started to walk out of the forest.
Harley followed her right away but then Vinnie poked her shoulder making Carbine stop walking. "What is it, soldier?" Carbine said and turned around. Harley, a couple metres away, stopped too since she noticed that the light had stopped moving.
"May I have a word with you.." Vinnie asked politely and Carbine could easily see already that he was regretting his earlier behaving. "What is it?" Carbine said and turned to him properly. "I'm sorry.." Vinnie started and looked straight to her eyes. "I'm really sorry about the earlier, General Carbine. I never should have joked about those things.. I hurt you badly and I promise that I never do that again.." He said making Carbine smile a bit.
"I'm glad that your apology comes from your heart, Vinnie. And we are okay now.." She said but then Vinnie suddenly hugged her. She was quite surprised about the hug, but then happy about it since she hugged him back. Harley saw that too but even if she thought it was an innocent hug, she also got a bit jealous about it.
"Thank you for telling me about your past.. And sorry about I shadowed you guys.." Vinnie said after they walked to Harley. "You need to understand someone's past before you can get to know them.." Carbine said wisely making Harley smile. "Do you mean that we are friends now, General?" Vinnie said making Carbine smile too. "Call me Carbine on free time, Vinnie!" She said making him hug her again, but this time he walked into the middle of the girls and group hugged both of them. After that they ended up laughing about a white furred Vinnie trying to hide in the forest grounds while they headed back home.
But at home, Carbine's thoughts wandered back to that night's happenings. She hadn't told completely everything what had happened. How could she ever tell someone that Scabbard had blackmailed her with the worst way possible.. Would she ever get a change to defend herself from him and tell everyone what truly happened? Scabbard needed to face justice but it was easier said than done..
