real life
MELANIE had just told her lunch table about what happened between her and matt when they hung out. each one of them had a different facial expression written on their face, some proud, and some in shock. she looked awkwardly around the table as she waits for someone to say something or do anything.
hazel was the first out of the group to speak up, "girl there is no way you just casually hung out with matthew sturniolo." she says with her hand over her mouth in absolute shock.
melanie just shakes her head and shrugs, "i mean...he doesn't seem that bad." she says putting a strand of hair behind her ear.
trevor scoffs and rolls his eyes, "but mel...he is bad news like, no offense your going to be one of his hoes." he says in an upset tone which makes melanie's eyebrows raise in curiosity.
"trevor that is not going to happen like you know i'm not that kind of girl." she says as she gives him a reassuring look making him softly smile then look away.
"andddd that is because you have never had your first kiss!" scarlett says clapping her hands together and receiving a glare from melanie.
"okay literally no need to call me out like that," she huffed as she crosses her arms. "it's only because i want my first kiss to be with the right one."
"right one my ass girl, it's because you don't talk to the other gender besides trevor, grayson and me." nathan says with a teasing grin.
hazel slaps nathan in the arm causing him to rub his arm. "it's okay that you haven't had your first kiss, they are overrated anyways!" hazel says trying to cheer the girl up.
melanie huffs and was going to say something before she was cut off by the bell ringing loudly through the cafeteria. she sighed and stood up, "i'll talk to you guys after school...unless i die because i haven't had my first kiss yet." she jokes as she grabs her stuff and walks off.
IT was the last period before school was over and she couldn't wait to get out of class. her mind has been completely caught up with her memories with matt. even if it was only a little bit of memories, she could think about it for hours and she didn't know why. maybe it was the way his hair was messy but still looked so soft or how blue his eyes were when they stared into her brown eyes. whatever matt did to her, it has her hooked but she will never completely fall for him since he was a known bad boy. the bell rings through the school, noting her that class is over and she was now free.
she collects her stuff and heads towards the door. through the window of the door she sees matt waiting by the lockers. this struck confusion through her head as she opens the door and sees him turn his direction towards her. it's like time freezes for her and it's just the two of them because she doesn't even realize her friends watching the interaction between them go down.
he walks over to her with a low smirk, "hey missie." he says leaning against the wall besides him looking down at her.
she looks up at him a confused look plastered on her face, "um..hey whats up?" she asks curiously as she didn't expect him to come up to her.
"come over to my house today." he says in more of a demanding tone then a suggestion.
she scrunches her nose up and looks behind him to give their friends a look. they were all staring at her confused as to what the conversation could be about.
she sighs and looks back up to him, "and why would i come over...i literally have homework." she says in an obvious tone to his demand.
he shrugs, "well what if i need homework help?" he replies as he shoves his hands in his sweatpants pockets.
she gives him an are you serious kind of look before sighing, "do you actually need help with your homework?" she asked as she already accepted defeat with getting out of this.
he smiles softly before nodding, "i mean if it means you will come over then yes, yes i do need homework help." he responds with a little more excitement in his voice.
she rolls her eyes, "okay if you say so...we can do our homework together but i will be driving myself to your house so send me your address." she says pointing her index finger at him as she walked away to her friends.
trevor looked at her with his hands up in confusion as to what just happened, "um care to explain what that was about?" he says in a tone that shows he's annoyed.
melanie shrugs before walking with them outside of school, "i guess i'm helping him with homework." she stated simply trying to convince herself that's all he wanted.
hazel claps her hands together while trevor rolls his eyes at the girls statement. 'the sassy man apocalypse is really upon us.' melanie thought before tuning in to listen to what hazel was saying.
"girl you are hanging out with a boy alone!" hazel says as she nudges her playfully causing melanie to laugh.
"but i hang with nathan alone all the time!" she responds pointing to nathan who was giving her an unamused expression.
nathan puts his arm around melanie before sighing, "but girl i am gay." he states as he gives her a pat on the shoulder.
melanie's eyes widen, "oh shit...then is this even actually helping him with homework!?" she says in a panicked tone.
what could matt actually want? what if they don't even do homework? she has to get her homework done. even though hanging out with matt isn't a completely bad thing, she couldn't let him get between her and her school work.
grayson laughs and claps his hands together as they reach melanie's car before he leans against the back, "you will be fine just text us about it later now go do your 'homework'. " he says putting air quotes around the word homework.
melanie frowns before opening her car door and getting in, the amount of stress she felt as she started her car was insane. she could barely drive but she knows if she didn't show up to matt's house then that would just get her in more trouble so she drives all the way to matt's house which was surprisingly not that far.
she puts her car in park before looking in the driveway to see if a familiar motorcycle was there. it was there but so was a van that she could only assume were his parents so she gets out of the car and starts to walk up. she felt extremely nervous that she almost considered turning around and going home but before she could make that decision, the door opens. it was matt with a soft smile on his face. his smile somehow made her melt and she didn't know if it was because it seemed that he only smiled at her or if it was her delusions getting the best of her.
"well are you going to come in or just stand here looking pretty?" he says snapping her out of her daze with his out of pocket statement.
her face gets a shade of red before she rolls her eyes and walks into his house looking around at the pictures of his family. she was in here the night they met but she didn't get a good look of the pictures that were all over the wall. there were a lot of pictures of him and his brothers, in every single one he was smiling and looked like he was genuinely happy. seeing him genuinely happy in the pictures almost made her smile to herself before she cut her own thought off and turns around to matt.
"okay so where are we doing our homework?" she asked him as he was standing right behind her.
he frowns and walks past her, "we're really doing our homework??" he groans as he enters the kitchen with melanie following behind him.
she stands at the island that was in the middle of kitchen and frowns at him as he opens the refrigerator. "you promised so yes we are really doing our homework." she says as she places her backpack down on the barstool chair.
he grabbed a water for the both of them and slides the bottle towards her. "i guess i'll keep my promises for you missie." he says walking around the island to sit down in the barstool chair next to her bag.
"will you ever call me by my name?" she scoffed as she moved her bag to the table top and rummaged through it for her computer and notebook.
he leans back in the seat placing his arm on the back of her seat, "mmm i don't know...i think missie suits you." he leans in whispering to her amusingly looking at her reaction.
her eyes wide looking down at her computer before turning to him and giving him a glare. "okay mr.tough guy.." she says with a soft smile causing him to laugh softly and remove his arm from the back of her chair.
he reaches for his bag and opens it up, melanie notices how empty it is and raises an eyebrow. he glances at her in confusion before pulling out one of the few notebooks he had.
melanie's curiosity got the best of her and decides to ask why he doesn't have a lot of school work in his bag.
"okay matthew why do you have almost nothing in your backpack?" she says as she gives a disappointed frown as if she was his mom.
he looks at her with an unamused look before shrugging, "i mean come on melanie...i don't really do my school work like ever." he says as he opens the notebook to the first page and there being nothing written down.
she looks down to her notebook that had almost everything from the text book written in it. she sighed before looking over to him, "and so why did you agree to do your homework with me?" she asked blankly looking at his side profile.
he sat there silent for a second before scrunching up his face and sighing, "i guess because i know how important your school work is to you and this was the only way to get you to hangout with me." he says as he glances at her.
it's silent between them as they both just stared into each others eyes. melanie felt her breathing stop as if he took all the oxygen out of her but she couldn't stop staring at his blue eyes. everything about him to her was perfect but she couldn't let herself fall for him especially since he was entertaining other girls.
she was the first to break eye contact and look towards her computer, "well let's start with math first." she says softly as she clicks through her computer to their class.
after three hours of doing homework they finally finished and matt looked like he was going to pass away from all the work they just did. melanie looked at the time before she closed her laptop and stood up from the chair.
"well i should probably head out...it's getting late and i don't want to intrude." she says politely as she gathers up her stuff.
matt rolls his eyes and scoffs, "your not intruding melanie and you know that." he says as stands up with her and looks at her packing her stuff.
"well i mean when your brothers get home...i don't want to interrupt your guys's time together." she says as she puts her backpack over her shoulders looking up at him.
he walks closer towards her and removes the backpack from her shoulders, "oh come on missie i want you here." he says looking down at her with her backpack in his hand.
"matthew, i'm not one of your girls you know that right?" melanie says as she reaches for her backpack but matthews moves it farther back from her reach.
"i know that, that's why i want you to stay and hangout with me." he says with a pleading look on his face.
as she looks at the pleading on his face, she huffs and nods. "okay fine but i can only hangout for a little bit, i have a very strict schedule matthew." she says pointing at him once again.
matthew laughs softly and places her backpack on the table, "gosh you are such nerd." he says as he walks towards the stairs.
melanie rolls her eyes and follows after him, "okay rude...there was no need for that comment!" she says as she followed him up the stairs.
"whatever you say missie!" he said as they reach his room and walks in.
melanie pauses at the door way and takes glances around the room. for him being a known bad boy, his room was pretty clean. she was staring at all the posters on the wall before matt walks up to her.
"you don't need permission to enter my room." he says looking down at her and grabbing her hand to bring her into his room.
"jeez sorry!" melanie says as she lets go of his hand and looks around the room.
"come on let's go on the roof." he says holding a bag as she opens the window that lead to the roof.
she looked at the bag and it was familiar, it was the bag that had all his weed in. she oddly remembered from the last time they were on the roof but she snaps out of her glance at the bag and nods.
she follows after him through the window and he was already at the top looking at her crawl through the window. he reaches his hand out for her to take and she willingly accepts his hand as she doesn't want to fall. the sun was setting in front of them and she couldn't lie, it was definitely romantic but she killed that thought as she lets go of his hand once she is up at the top with him.
"how often are you up here?" she asked as she sits next to him rolling the weed with papers on top of his bag.
he doesn't look up as he had his tongue out showing how focused he was on not messing up his joint that he's been waiting for ever since they started studying.
"i think i'm out here almost everyday." he says as he rolls the end of the paper together tightly so none of it falls out.
she nods as she looks at the sunset in front of them. the silence between them was loud but also comforting and she felt oddly safe with him.
"do you mind if i ask you a question?" she says as she turns towards him to focus on him.
he held the joint between his lips as he uses the lighter to light it up. he takes a long bit before blowing all the smoke out before holding the joint between his fingers. "shoot." he says blankly moving his direction towards her.
melanie takes a deep breath, "okay well one what is going on with you and eliana...second did you actually go to jail?" she says asking him seriously but he couldn't tell if the second question was serious.
he laughs softly before shaking his head and taking another long hit. "well me and eliana have always been in the same friend group but i think one night during sophomore year we kissed and i thought we agreed to being just friends who casually hook up but....i don't know. she wants to be more but she knows that i can't commit to anyone right now." he answered her question calmly as he ashes out the joint.
melanie hums and nods, "and nowwwww what about the second one?" she asked in a serious tone causing matt to get thrown a little off guard.
he laughs softly and glances at her to see a serious look on her face. "oh your serious...no i've never been to jail, people just like to make rumors." he shrugs as he looks off at the sunset.
melanie was silent for a second as she looked at him. she couldn't understand how he was so calm and how he didn't let these things get to him but she figured that was none of her business.
"and you don't let these rumors or anything get to you?" she asked as she brings her knees to her chest.
matt shakes his head, "nope...majority of the people we go to school with have never even talked to me because i'm too scary." he says rolling his eyes and taking another hit.
"well i don't think your scary." she comments causing him to smile softly and blow the smoke out of his mouth.
"well since you got to ask me a question now it's my turn." he says finishing off the joint and throwing it off the roof.
melanie gives him a nervous look before smacking her lips together and nodding, "alright fair...go ahead." she says as she waits for his question.
matt looks up for a second as he thinks of a question before he turns to her, "why have you never kissed anyone?" he asked her bluntly.
his question threw her off guard and it was pretty obvious based on the expression on her face. "how did you even know i have never kissed anyone?" she says with nervousness in her voice.
he gives her an unamused look, "oh come on missie, you just went your first party and your head is always down in your school work...i mean i've seen guys try to talk to you but you don't give them the time of day." he explained to her.
'have guys really tried to talk to her?' she thought before giving him a frown and shrugging. "i guess that i just want the kiss to be with the right person like i don't want it to be some drunk meaningless thing if that makes sense." she explained as she played with her bracelets.
matt nods as he listens to her, "good for you honestly...your idea of a first kiss sounds better than any of the ones i've heard about." he says giving her a reassuring smile.
she laughed softly, "thanks i guess...." she mumbled as she looked at him.
it was silent between them once again but it was comforting. melanie this time wasn't scared to breath and instead felt comfortable to be up here and talking to him. she picks up her phone and check the time, it was 7:30.
she sighed before looking back at him, "i really do have to go matt." she says giving him a soft smile.
he gives her a reassuring smile and grabs her by her waist and picks her up onto her feet. "i understand...i'll see you tomorrow melanie." he says and that was the last thing she heard before she crawled through the window.
