chapter one

Rain pelted down hard against my umbrella as I walked down the street. I smelled heavily of coffee, the perks of working in a coffee shop I guess. The sky was dark, almost black, and the rain showed no sign of relenting anytime soon. The streets were empty as I walked down them and I found myself wishing once again I had a car. I was unfortunately still two hundred dollars short of the amount required for a down payment on a vehicle. I was shocked when I came a cross a little boy scrambling down the streets. His clothes were soaking wet and his hair was clinging to his forehead. He looked cold and lost, and he reminded me of a time long past when I had been abandoned on the streets in the rain. My heart clenched in my chest and I found myself racing to the boys side. Once he realized the rain wasn't beating him down, he looked up to find my umbrella and to find me. His round blue eyes widened in shock.
"Don't trouble yourself for me, miss. Youre getting wet," he said. I shook my head and smiled warmly at him.
"Are you lost, sweetie?" I asked. His expression flickered and he scratched his head and looked down at the sidewalk.
"Yes and no...." he trailed off. I raised my eyebrow at him and he smiled sheepishly as he continued, "I kinda ran away and I thought I knew where I was going but....I didn't...." I chuckled at the little boy.
"Are you ready to go back?" The boy immediately shook his head. "No!" He exclaimed. I smiled and noticed a restaurant two feet away. I gestured to the restaurant and said, "Come with me," and the boy happily obliged.
The restaurant was warm and smelled like a mixture of amazing foods. "Hi, welcome to Shelley's- oh my goodness, you two wait right here," the hostess was a short, blonde woman who looked to be in her early thirties. She bad a kind face and when she returned, she brought two towels for me and the little boy whose name I still hadn't caught. "Thank-you so much," I gushed to her. She smiled kindly. "It's just the two of you Then?" She asked and I nodded. She led us to a booth in the far corner of the restaurant with a large window by it. I could see the rain still pounding mercilessly outside on the empty streets, and a few cars passing by every now and then. Once we sat down the kind lady gave us or menus and asked, "can I start you off with some drinks?" I ordered a sweet tea and the little boy ordered a hot chocolate and once she left I smiled at the boy.
"May I ask your name?" The little boy smiled back at me. "My name is Jiwoo."
"it's nice to meet you Jiwoo, I'm Rosella."
"That's a pretty name," Jiwoo smiled and I noticed he was missing two teeth. I thanked him for his sweet comment just before the hostess showed back up with our drinks.
"Are y'all ready to order?" She asked. We ordered and she disappeared once again. I took my chance and asked, "I don't mean to pry but why did you run away?" Jiwoo looked down and scratched his neck.
"My big brother is the CEO of our family company now but my dad yelled at him tonight and they got in a big fight and I hate when they fight so I ran away." I frowned. "I'm really sorry to hear that but you know they're probably worried sick about you right now, right?" Jiwoo frowned. "They don't worry about me at all," he said. I shook my head. "That's just not true. Your family are the only people who truly care about you and love you unconditionally and I'm positive that right now they are going nuts trying to find you and make sure you're okay," I said. Jiwoo frowned again and mumbled, "I don't even know my way back." I smiled. "That's what I'm here for. After we eat I'll help you find your back to your family, okay?" Jiwoo beamed at me
After we finished eating, I thanked the staff and paid our bill and then we went back into the rain. I gave Jiwoo my umbrella so he wouldn't get wet, so in result, I was soaked immediately. "I'm really sorry," Jiwoo apologized sheepishly. I smile as I pull my collar as far up my neck as it 'll go. "It's totally fine, sweetie. So where did you come from?" I asked. Jiwoo told me the address and I automatically knew where it was- out was right across from the coffee shop I work in. I gesture bank toward the direction I had come from earlier and said, "follow me."
Jiwoo and I walked and he chattered mindlessly about his family. His big brother who had taken control of the family company was only twenty-one, an impressive age to be such a successful CEO.  His mother never really got into the family business, she had a world of her own where she tended to gardens and plants. Jiwoo's father was very strict and judgemental but he still loved his kids. Jiwoo, himself was a very energetic boy who loved power rangers and sweets. The Jeon family sounded like a very lively bunch. The walk back toward my coffee shop wasn't very long, so after twenty minutes, we had reached our destination. There was a police car parked in front of the building Jiwoo said he ran away from and there was a family crowded around the car, speaking to a cop. The woman was the first to notice Jiwoo and i approaching and she exclaimed, "my baby!" She then ran to us and sealed Jiwoo into a hug. Tears ran down her face as she embraced her son. "I was so worried about you, son," she cried. I began feeling awkward as I stood there silently. The father and brother slowly approached me and the mother and son duo who were still hugging and crying. The father pointed at me accusingly, "did you take my son?" He accused. My jaw dropped, and I glared the man. "Take him? No I found him. He ran away because he was tired of hearing you fight. I fed him and made sure he got back safely, so you shouldn't go around pointing fingers, sir." I said. It was time for his jaw to drop instead of mine. I usually respect my elders but this man clearly needed to be taught a lesson. I continued, "And I don't mean to pry, but you should really try not to fight so much. It's hurting Jiwoo, and he is much too young for you to go around scarring him like that." At this point, the whole family was looking at me in shock. "I think you should stay out of my family's affairs," the father scolded me. I raised my hands in defense and backed away. "Jiwoo, no more running away, you might not meet someone like me next time," i warned him with a smile. Jiwoo smiled back and ran to me. "Thank you for saving me," he mumbled as he hugged my legs. I ruffled his hair and giggled, "anytime you need me I'm here. I work at that coffee shop right over there, visit me sometime." Jiwoo nodded excitedly and then ran back to his parents who were telling the police man what had happened. Jiwoo's brother stared at me and i hesitantly approached him. "Your dad isn't really going to make me stay and be interrogated is he?" I asked. The boy looked at his father who was talking animatedly with the policeman. "I'm not sure actually," he spoke. His voice was smooth and the beauty of it took me aback. He was a very handsome boy. "Well I have a really long walk home and I have Jiwoo my umbrella so do you think you could talk him out of having me put on trial so I can get home before it gets too late." The boy looks at me with a shocked expression so I continue, "look, I saved your brother, can you cut me some slack? It's a really scary walk from here to my home in the dark." He shook his head and spoke again, "I'm just shocked that you think I'd let you walk home after you rescued my baby brother." I opened my mouth to reply but he motioned for me to hold on and he walked over to his mother and whispered something in her ear. She looked at me and smiled and waved. Jiwoo and his father were immersed in conversation with the copSo they didn't notice when jiwoo's brother gently grabbed my wrist and led me to a black car in the parking lot. "Are you sure this is okay?" I asked. I didn't want to be a burden him or his family, I know they'd already had a long, worrisome night. The boy just smiled at me, and his expression reminded me of a bunny. He was really cute. I got into his car and told him my address. He typed it into his GPS and bucked up. "Seat belt," he said to me and I followed his instruction and buckled up. We rode in silence for a moment and then the boy spoke up. "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for returning Jiwoo to us safely. Not a lot of people would've done what you did tonight," he said thankfully. I blushed and smiled. "It's not a problem, I'd never abandon a child in the rain. My heart ached when I saw him standing alone in the rain, I had to help him," I explained. I didn't mention that I knew what it was like to be abandoned and lost like that. "My name is Jungkook, may I know your name?" I smiled and so did he. "My name is Rosella. It's nice to meet you, Jungkook," i said. His name sounded sweet rolling off my tongue. "It's incredible nice to meet you, Rosella. Such a beautiful name for a beautiful lady," Jungkook smirked and I bit my lip as I felt heat coming into my cheeks. "Oh I see, you're a womanizer. Don't expect me to fall for your games," I said as I tried to recover from the heavy blush that had appeared on my face. Jungkook just smirked. "I can't help it. You're beautiful, kind, funny and fearless. You are the only person to ever stand up to my father the way you did tonight," he explained. I rolled my eyes playfully and said, "he had it coming! His son ran away because he was tired of his father's constant arguing. Someone needed to intervene." Jungkook smiled. "Fearless," he said again. I giggled and rolled my eyes. "That's far from true," I said. I see my apartment come into view and prepare myself to get out of the car. "I'm really sorry for getting your seat wet," I apologized to Jungkook. He laughed and waved it off.  "It'll dry, Rosella. You have a great night," I smiled at him and wished him a good night as well
