Baymax Returns
"One."
The wires are attached to a piece of dark material.
"Two."
A hand grabs onto the the handle that turns on a machine.
"Three!"
The handle is pulled down, but a big burst of electricity sparks and everything is dark.
"What?"
My goggles are slipped up on top of my head and I keep flipping the switch, but nothing works. I rub my chin in thought.
"I'm the only one here, except- oh....Ashi." I walk out of my lab and go up the stairs to head to the other labs. I would've taken the elevator, but the power is out.
My knuckles gently knock on Ashi's lab door and I barely make out his silhouette, seeing a flashlight pointed at the door.
"Ashi?"
The door opens and the young man pouts, "I told you not to call me that."
I smile sheepishly, "What? It just stuck with me." I glance in his lab. "What happened this time?"
He fixes his San Fransokyo Ninjas cap to place the bill back to the front. Ashi sighs stressfully, "My project short circuited. How's your project coming along?"
I tap my chin, "Well the power cut out before I could test it."
"Oh, (Y/n). I am so sorry. I forget that you were working tonight too."
I wave a hand and shrug, "It's alright, though we might want to get going now that the power is off."
There was a small spark in his lab that made us jump and we laugh. Ashi goes in to clean up while I go back to my lab to do the same. My eyes examine the machine then sigh. My project was harder to build than it sounds.
My major here at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology: Nanotechnology.
It's a challenge working with things by the atoms. Though it's fun because once I have a break through in making something that's useful, I feel proud.
Sure I have classes to keep my brain running and I do tend to put aside the homework, but I manage to get them done last minute.
It's weird too, but I also take creative writing as more of a hobby.
"Pocky, you ready?"
I slip my journal into my backpack and follow Ashi out to his moped. I chuckle as he places the extra helmet on me.
"Thanks for the ride home, Ashi." I hand him back the helmet and take the fast food bag from him too. "Also for the late dinner."
"Us night owls have to take care of each other." Ashi smiles warmly and holds out his fist.
I fist bump his and laugh as he makes an explosion sound.
"Night, Nerd."
"You too, Dork."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I'm about to close my locker only to stop and stare at the picture of Tadashi and I. It was one of those picture strips from the photo booths at the mall.
Since that day.
That one day which Tadashi was gone. It's been awhile since then, but I still feel like something was missing.
"Miss (L/n)."
I grimace at the stern voice behind me and I turn around, not looking up at them.
"Professor Granville."
The dark skinned woman sighs, "My office now."
I follow her to her office and finally look at her as she sits at her desk. Granville slides a folder to me which I open.
My class scores.
"I know you are aware that your grades are slipping. You and I know very well that you can get them back up."
I rub my arm, "I know, Professor Granville."
Granville gives me a small look of sympathy. "(Y/n). You are one of the greatest student at this school, even though you lack social interactions. All I'm asking is that you keep trying. Never give up."
I was going to say something until there's a knock and someone comes in.
"Professor Granville, which assignment- oh."
Karmi.
"(Y/n)."
"Karmi." I roll my eyes and hold onto the straps of my backpack. "May I be excused?"
"Yes."
I nearly trip and bite my tongue from saying anything to Karmi, though I nudge her arm as she huffs.
Karmi had always annoyed me. Like a frenemy kind of thing. I don't hate her, I just don't like her.
I feel guilty that I'm already messing up my second attempt to get good grades for this semester. Tadashi had always been the one to keep my hopes up.
Flunking last year wasn't too good and it cost money to stay here.
I push the door open to Granville's classroom and make my way up to the Thermal Dynamics Classroom for freshmen.
The seats were empty so I took one closest to the door and on the top. I open the holographic screen just as other students come in.
Not ten minutes later, Professor Granville walks in through the teacher's door in the front of the class and seems to have a smug look on her face.
The door the student's take bursts open and we all look at the one who came in one minute late.
"Ah. Teen genius decided to join us."
My eyes widen and I tried not to stare too much. H-Hiro Hamada. He's going here now?
"How did you-" Hiro asked Granville in surprise.
"SHORT CUT. I can take them, you can not. Let's begin."
The black haired teen stumbled between some students and plopped down in front of me. His head falls below the table and I silently laugh. It seems someone was messing with the chairs again.
The next two days were uneventful though I happen to notice Ashi's brother seemed to be stress working. It's what Ashi use to look and act like while working for large amounts of time without enough sleep.
In class, I lay my head on my hand in boredom and glance down to see Hiro drawing a diagram of-
"Baymax?" I say quietly.
I quickly hide behind the laptop when Hiro looks back.
Luckily, the class bell rings and I get up to walk out before the rest can. I hate crowded hallways.
Another day went by and I've been working on my project. There has been a break through to it, but I'm still working on the material to spread out with a thought.
Baymax.
I pull up my goggles to rest on my head again. It's been a long while since I seen that health care robot. I wonder what happened to him since he did belong to Tadashi.
I haven't been keeping track of Hiro. Though I did catch a glimpse of him trying to hug Professor Granville the other night.
At my locker once again, I began to notice the school's mascot kept bugging Hiro and kept holding up signs with the words Big Hero 6 on it. I don't know what that's about.
The locker near me opened and I froze, making sure to hide my face. Please don't let it be-.... Yeah it's Hiro.
I peaked slightly and seen him tear a piece of paper from his locker door. He closed it only to face another paper being held by the mascot.
Big Hero 6.
"One more time. This time the finest laser cutter." I look from the front of the laser cutter and don't see the glow until you look at it from the side.
I pulled it over to the material I have hanging on a hanger. "Let's see if this cuts through this." I use it and the material tears into a clean cut.
"Ugh." I make an x on my clipboard. "More testing with the groups of atoms to withstand the laser."
A yawn comes from my mouth and I stretch. I hope I can get it right next week.
I lock my lab, fixing my backpack and put in my earbuds. "I really need to get a good break." My phone plays the playlist I selected and I press the elevator button.
The elevator stops and I step out, which was probably bad time?
"Ah!"
I'm grabbed and held up against the wall by... a naked BAYMAX?! It's eyes are red. This can't be the real Baymax.
It raises its fist.
Yep. Definitely not the friendly Baymax.
I close my eyes waiting for the end.
Seems like luck is on my side because the marshmallow Baymax I knew came to pull the other Baymax off me.
"Violence is not the recommend solution."
I groan once I land hard on the floor and someone carefully grabs my arm before pulling me up.
"I am SO sorry. Are you alright?"
I nod and feel my face heat up when I see who it was. His big brown eyes looking panicked and worried.
My eyes shift over to Baymax and he's in trouble. Hiro follows where I'm looking and he runs over, pulling the wires of the exoskeleton of Baymax.
I had no idea what was going on, but this is bad especially when I heard loud crashing where Granville's office is located.
Hiro pulls me and gently pushes me to the exit, "You should leave. It's not safe here." He runs off toward the noises with a deflated Baymax following him.
My head says leave, though my gut said stay.
"Ugh. I might regret this." I hesitantly make way to the Granville's office and don't hear fighting. I freeze up as a very large guy runs by me though I rub my eyes when a flash of bright green light is coming from him.
"What is he doing with Granville's paper weight? Why is it even glowing?"
Granville's office is a complete wreck and the window is busted too. Voices were talking outside too. I tip toe over and peak down.
There was four figures dressed in some sort of colored armor, then Baymax and Hiro are with them.
"Why would Granville have something so dangerous on her desk?" The dreadlocks guy asked.
"Maybe one of it's untold powers is holding down paper." Wait. That was the school mascot guy.
I go back out and sneak over to spot Hiro go into Tadashi's lab. I open it a crack and I stare.
Baymax was in red armor and Hiro was putting on purple armor. I slightly panic when Baymax turns his attention to me and I hold a finger to my mouth to shush him.
He copies my movement.
I smile softly and give him a thumbs up which he copied too.
"Baymax, what are you doing?" Hiro asks.
"Nothing." Baymax states.
I walk home since I missed the late night bus. Tadashi would me home when he could and sometimes it is scary walking at night in the city.
A bright green light explodes above the city and I stop to look up as it dims. "What is going on?" I slip my goggles on and it begins to come to life.
"That was a strong energy pulse. At least it's gone." I suddenly gasp when my goggles zoom in on something falling. "Hiro! Baymax!"
Hiro seemed to be struggling to turn Baymax back on and to be honest, I nearly fainted before they fly back up and disappearing behind the city buildings.
I feel my heart beating and lean against the bench.
"That....HIRO HAMADA!"
I huff. Now I get why Tadashi gets so over protective and stressed over his Little Brother.
"At least Baymax is alright." I look at my phone screen and glare the picture of Tadashi, Baymax and I.
"Ashi. I am the worst person you chose to watch over your brother.
