Therapist

“I’m not getting him a damn therapist!” Jonathan’s father shouts at his wife. The 14 year old hides in his room; waiting for the fight to blow over.

“Why in the hell shouldn’t we? He needs help and we obviously aren’t doing enough!” Tears stream out of the young blue eyes. He curls into himself as he listens to his parents fight over him. Why was he like this? He was so pathetic!

“Maybe you guys should give him a choice!” Jonathan’s head peeks out of his black hood to the new voice in the fight. “It’s his own mind, he needs to figure out himself if he needs this or not. You know you guys fighting isn’t helping him either,” Jennifer explains and a soft smile forms on Jonathan’s lips. Later that day Jonathan chose not to go to a therapist.

This time he doesn’t have a choice.

Jonathan needed professional help.

“He recommended a therapist?” Luke questions Delirious over the phone; on speaker so Evan could hear him too. “Yes, well more like a “you really need professional help” kinda recommend,” Jonathan explains, his voice sounding just like it did on discord over a microphone. “Are you going to go to this therapist?” Evan now pops in with a question. The phone goes silent for a split second. “I have no idea honestly,” the clown answers. “I think you should,” Luke states to his friend. “Evan and I aren’t really helping you. I mean you’ve been in the hospital multiple fucking times-”

“But that wasn't because of you guys. I’m just a fucking baby. I really need to straighten up. I’m starting to realize a few things in life anyway, and that’s because of you Evan,” Jonathan interrupts Luke. “Well, what if I helped you realize more things. When do you get out of the hospital?” Vanoss asks and turns to Luke. Delirious softly chuckles, “Come and get me.”

Evan jogs up the stairs to get himself changed and to pick out clothing for Delirious to wear for their first date. He digs through his dresser and finds multiple clothes that he’s never seen the man wear before. There’s a reason though, a stupid reason; society. Evan sighs as the certain whiff of his new found love. His hands squeeze the clothing and he sits in his own thoughts for a bit. He’s going to show Delirious he’s the best fucking person in the world; in Evan’s world anyway.

While Evan is upstairs, Luke decides to give Jonathan another call. He sits on the couch while the phone rings. “Hello? Luke? What’s up?”

“Are you serious about what you said?”

“When?”

“Earlier, when we were chatting with Evan. You said you were starting to realize things in life.”

“Yes, I was serious. Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Because, I fucking know you dude. You’re super good at pretending to be happy,” Luke spats over the phone. He lowers his voice again to be sure Evan can’t hear him. “So, Evan is making you genuinely happy?”

“Fuck yes he is! I haven’t been this happy since…” Delirious cuts out and his mind goes blank.

“Weston?”

“Y...yeah?”

“You mean you sorta remember him? The blond guy with the nose piercing?”

“I know we dated and he was the first and only guy I’ve ever dated…” Luke shifts uncomfortably, “You fucking remember Weston?!”

“Yes! Yes! I sorta do! Okay!”

“When’d you figure this out?”

“I don’t know, it just came back to me,” Delirious explains, worry thick in his voice. Luke sighs, “Can you really just remember somethin’ like that?”

“Something like what?” Evan questions as he walks down the stairs in ripped black skinny jeans, a white Metallica shirt, and black vans. On his back is a black bookbag with Jonathan’s clothing and a special surprise in it for him. Something Evan found in his room while looking for clothes. Luke takes a fake smile across his face, “Delirious will explain to you later!”

“What was that about?” Evan questions in the car. Luke seems to drive faster and the music seems to be louder. “You’re ignoring me Luke. What the hell happened? Is Delirious okay?”

“Just let him explain!”

“Why can’t you?!”

Luke throws his hands into the air, “Fine! But you can’t fucking hate on me or Delirious.”

“Okay, why would I anyway?”

Luke heavily sighs and seems to have a staring contest with the road, “Well, Delirious sorta remembers who Weston is.” CaRtOoNz leans closer to the car door, just in case Evan blows up. The truck is quiet for a bit as Vanoss gathers his thoughts. “Well, that’s good then. His memory is strong. It was only short term!” Vanoss states and tries his damndest to hide the slight irritation in his gut. Delirious chose you, not Weston…

“So, do you really think Jon should get a therapist?” Evan asks Luke as they wait at a stoplight. CaRtOoNz taps his fingers on the steering wheel, “I think he already has one.” A smirk crawls under the beard and the dark brown meets dark brown. “Me?” Vanoss’s voice almost peaks. Luke laughs through his nose, trying not to laugh out loud. He fails and Evan joins in with the laughter. After the laughing fit and parking in the hospital parking lot, Luke grabs Evan’s shoulder, “I really think if you weren’t here right now, Delirious wouldn’t be. You’re his therapist Evan. You’re his hero.” A genuine smile goes across the younger man’s face. He wraps his arms around Luke and then they hop out of the truck to great their recovering friend.
