Big Brother.
Jin chased Jungkook through the dance studio after they were done practicing, and once he caught him he pulled his maknae into a playful wrestling move. Jungkook playfully fought back. This was how the oldest and youngest of the team had been since the day they had met, always playfully bickering and fighting but their bond was stronger than ever and they absolutely loved eachother.
A recently hired staff member at BigHit named Cho was in the room with the band as well. He was overseeing dance practice that day.
And he hated Jin.
He'd been around the band enough to develop a severe hatred towards the oldest, but he kept it to himself. He hated Jin's jokes, hated his laugh, hated his dancing, hated almost everything about him. For the few weeks that he'd been working with the members he hated having to interact with Jin, although he always faked nice, because he knew being mean wasn't going to solve anything. However, he wished Jin was just gone.
And as he stood there and watched Jin wrestle around with Jungkook, an idea popped into his head. He devised an elaborate plan to get Jin out of that band. He looked at Jungkook, and knew Jungkook was only 17. The youngest of the group, the only one still a minor. As he watched them wrestle, he realized he could use this against Jin somehow. So he pulled out his phone and secretly recorded the two as they played.
After Jin and Jungkook had finished their playfulness, which ended in tons of laughter and hugs, Hobi mentioned they had to hurry up and get home. He was desperate to get back to the dorm and clean that disaster of a place and he already told everyone that he was demanding their help. As they all packed up and headed out, Cho grabbed Jin and pulled him aside. They were the only two left. Cho had shoved his phone in his pocket, but he kept it recording.
"What's up?" Jin asked as he threw on his backpack.
"I would like to talk to you about some observations of mine," Cho said sternly.
Jin panicked. "Oh no, is it my dancing? Was it bad today? Aish.."
"No, no. Actually it involves your maknae, Jungkook."
"Oh?" Jin asked curiously. "What about Kook-ah?" The thought of something being wrong with Jungkook made Jin's heart start to race. He hoped the youngest wasn't in some kind of trouble.
"I can't help but notice you tend to hurt him quite often." Cho folded his arms and narrowed his eyes at Jin, in a somewhat threatening manner.
Jin was shocked at the accusation. "Hurt him?" His voice got a bit louder with a hint of frustration, "When the hell have you ever seen me hurt him? I love that boy to death why on earth would you think I'd hurt him?" Jin couldn't help but feel offended. He knew Cho was new and learning how the bands relationship worked, but he couldn't believe Cho was this oblivious to how insanely protective over Jungkook he was. "I wouldn't even let a damn fly hurt that boy."
"Every time I'm in here I see you attacking him, hitting him, grabbing him, pushing him. Isn't he just a kid? Technically that's child abuse, Jin. I feel like it's something I need to report," Cho said.
Jin lost his breath and froze. A million thoughts raced through his head as he tried to find the correct way to defend himself. "I-I don't abuse him! We're just playing around! We've always been like that! I mess with him and he messes with me! But I never hurt him! I wouldn't do that! I'm always careful to make sure I'm not too aggressive with him. He's my baby how can you think I'd ever do something so terrible to him?" Jin's heart was faintly cracking. Abusing Jungkookie? The thought never once occurred to him. He also never once thought that someone else would accuse him of such a crime.
"Hm, interesting. If you say so. I'm just saying that's what it looks like to me. So you're saying you don't intend to inflict pain or harm on him because he's the youngest and smaller than you?"
"That's what I'm saying, yes. I would never in a million lifetimes..." Jin felt his eyes gloss with wetness but he held his tears in. His body filled with dread as he began to wonder if maybe he was being rough with Jungkook. Am I actually hurting him? If that's what it looks like to others?
"Okay, well then. I guess that clears the air," Cho said with a smile. He put out his hand for a handshake. "I was just making sure. Gotta look out for the little guys, you know?"
Jin weakly shook Cho's hand and let out a faint, "Yeah.." The little guys. My little guy. Who I'd never hurt.
Cho departed and Jin needed a moment to collect himself and wipe the tears he let slip out once he was alone. He knew he wouldn't put his maknae in harm but the accusation really had him feeling like shit about himself. Once he took a moment to himself he ran out to the car to meet with the others. Yoongi asked what took so long and Jin lied claiming he couldn't find his hat.
On the ride home, Jungkook started nudging Jin's leg with his own, and playfully trying to punch him. Usually Jin would retaliate but he decided not to. He was in a mood where right now he felt it best to just keep to himself.
"What's wrong?" Jungkook asked when he noticed Jin not messing with him back. "Nothing, just tired," Jin lied. Jungkook shrugged.
At home the members got to work cleaning the dorm. Jin walked into Jungkook's room to find the maknae sitting on his bed folding his laundry. Laundry was his favorite. Hobi always teased him about his odd love of folding clothes, even his underwear.
Jin took a seat down next to him.
"Hi hyungie," Jungkook said without taking his eyes off his folding.
"Hey, bun, can I uh-ask you something?" Jin asked. Jungkook noticed the weird hesitation in his hyungs voice and put his clothes down.
"Sure," Jungkook said.
Jin tensed up as a wave of anxiety flowed through him. He was almost afraid to ask, but took a deep breath and did it anyway. "You know how we tend to like...playfully bicker and play fight? I just wanted to make sure you don't um...that you don't feel like I'm hurting you or anything. I mean you don't think I do anything on purpose right?" Jin shook his head with slight frustration, "I mean what I'm trying to ask is do you think the way I am with you is like..erm....you know...abusive...at all?"
Jungkook's eyes went wide and he silently stared at his hyung in shock. The silence was loud for Jin as he wondered what the youngest would say. Which was why he flinched when Jungkook suddenly burst out laughing.
"You?! My Jin hyung?! Abusive?! Haha! Hahahah!" Jungkook was laughing so hard he was in tears, "Sorry sorry sorry. But..I just...hahaha!" Jungkook was laughing so hard he had to clutch his stomach because it was in pain. He wondered why the hell Jin would ever in a million years ask a question like that. He thought of all the small moments him and Jin would play fight and it warmed his heart. Those moments truly were his favorite.
"Well I'm glad you think this is funny!" Jin couldn't help but smile. Jungkook's laugh was always quite contagious. "But answer me!"
"No, no." Jungkook shook his head, "You've never hurt a hair on my body. Why on earth would you worry about something like that? I love our bickering, it's fun. It's always been fun. We've been that way for years why the sudden concern over how I feel? Hyungie how could you worry you're abusive towards me when you don't even let me eat soup if you think it's too hot?"
Jin let out a loud laugh. Yeah, yeah I do tend to do that.
Jin started nervously playing with the skin around his nails. "So you're okay? We're okay? Everything is okay?"
"Why are you even asking something like this?" Jungkook wondered.
"Cho thinks I abuse you, and he even threatened to report me for child abuse because you're only 17," Jin informed his maknae.
Jungkook stared at him with a confused expression, lifting an eyebrow. He was silent for a moment. "What the fuck?"
Jin shrugged, "I don't know either."
"What? He thinks you're beating the hell out of me or something?" Jungkook felt angry. This was his Jin hyung right here. He was mad that someone would speak illy about him. Especially trying to show Jin in a bad light over something that wasn't really happening. He knew how much Jin loved him, he didn't understand how someone else couldn't see that.
Jin shrugged again, "I guess he sees how we act during practice and he claims I hurt you a lot."
"Well don't beat yourself up over it. He clearly doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. He's known us for what, two weeks? He's seen all of us play around at this point I don't know why he'd think something bad was going on."
Jin was quiet, but he was smiling. He felt a lot better knowing Jungkook really was okay. Jungkook stood up in front of his hyung and grabbed his cheeks, "You're the greatest hyungie a kid could ask for and I love you." He kissed him on the forehead, "Don't let some jerk make you think otherwise, okay?"
"Yeah, okay."
Jungkook tackled Jin back onto the bed and hugged him tightly. Jin rubbed his maknae's back. The oldest couldn't have asked for a better maknae. He loved all of his dongsaengs, but his maknae was special. He truly was Jin's baby.
They hugged for a while and then Jungkook decided to get back to folding his laundry. Jin got up and started to help around the house. Now that the weight was off his shoulders, he opened up to the others about Cho and the concerns they were having.
Taehyung laughed. "Well he's stupid."
"Yeah seriously don't listen to him," Yoongi said. Hobi, Namjoon, and Jimin also offered comforting words that continued to help him feel much better.
Over the next few days, Cho continued to monitor practice. Jungkook still tried messing around with his hyung but he noticed that in Cho's presence, Jin was trying to keep his distance. The maknae didn't take it personally, but he was sad that Jin felt like he couldn't act like his usual self. Nobody said anything to Cho about it. They were hoping to just move on and forget about it.
Cho still hated Jin and he still planned to use this against him. He had recorded enough on his phone, both video and voice recording, to present a case to the police to get Jin in trouble and taken away. The only evidence he still didn't have was the fact that Jungkook didn't have bruises.
That needs to change.
Cho stepped in and started doing small things that would put bruises on Jungkook. Like accidentally walking into him too harshly, or flinging his arm and accidentally hitting him in the face. He would even grab Jungkook's wrists to "guide him" to the correct standing spot and nonchalantly grip him too tightly in hopes of putting finger prints on his arms. Which he succeeded in, and unfortunately none of the members were concerned because Cho always offered sincere apologies whenever he'd 'accidentally' do something to Jungkook. They all figured he was just a very clumsy man and Jungkook had bad luck when it came to where he was standing.
Jin was the most excited when for the first day in a while, Cho wasn't at practice. He felt like he could finally be his playful self again and just like normal, him and Jungkook were bickering away, full of laughter. During a break the two started play wrestling, but it was extremely poor timing because Jin had Jungkook pinned down on the floor right as Cho walked in. Jin froze as he made eye contact with Cho.
Cho immediately whipped out his phone and took a picture. "I knew it," he said flatly.
Yoongi rolled his eyes at Cho, "Oh calm down, they're just playing. Jungkook is literally on the floor laughing." Yoongi waved his arms in the air, "Oh no, child abuse. Boooo~" he said sarcastically.
"Jungkook shouldn't be on the floor at all," Cho said.
Jin shot up to his feet and helped Jungkook stand up. "We were just-"
Cho put his hand up to stop Jin from talking. "Save it, I don't want to hear it."
"You really don't get our relationship at all so how about you just mind your own business?" Jungkook immediately came to Jin's defense, as did the rest of them. They started scolding Cho about all his stupid false accusations. Cho ended up walking out of the room without saying anything.
"He can stay gone," Jimin said.
Jin was full of anxiety the rest of practice and couldn't concentrate. He wondered how bad that picture would look if used out of context. He could only hope that Cho would leave him the hell alone. He could tell the man seemed to have it out for him for some reason but had no idea why. He never did the man any wrong.
The rest of the members could feel the anxiety radiating off Jin and they tried reassuring him again that everything was fine and that Cho was clearly turning out to be just some stupid asshole.
"I guess," Jin shrugged. Jungkook walked over and hugged his hyung, "I love you!"
Jin hugged him back, "I love you too, bun." But this time, Jungkook's affection didn't seem to overpower the weight of the depression he was feeling. He didn't quite understand what he was doing wrong.
After practice the members hung out at home. The members did their best to laugh and play with Jin to get him to stop sulking. Jungkook clung to his hyung and smothered him with praises in an attempt to make him less sad.
Then there was loud knocking on the door.
"Got it!" Jimin said. He opened the door and two police officers stepped inside.
"Does Kim Seokjin live here?" The first cop asked. Jin's heart dropped out of his chest. The members all looked at him.
"I'm...me.." Jin raised his hand. A cop walked over to him and whipped out handcuffs. They told Jin he was under arrest for child abuse charges.
"You can't be fuckin serious!" Hobi screamed. "Are you kidding me?!"
Jin burst into tears. It was a nightmare coming true. The cop went to put handcuffs on Jin but he reflexively backed away, "I never hurt anyone!"
"Was it that Cho asshole? Huh? He's been lying out of his ass!" Taehyung screamed. All of the members started crying. Jungkook started screaming at the police that Jin was innocent.
Jin was a hyperventilating mess. The cop grabbed him harshly to force him into handcuffs. "I'm innocent I swear!" he screamed.
"Which one of you is Jungkook?" The other cop asked.
"M-me," Jungkook answered nervously through tears. The cop said he had to ask a few questions, but first they had to take Jin away.
"No!" All of the members screamed as Jin was being dragged away. The cop told them to back off and not follow.
"Jail!? Jin can't go to jail! He didn't fuckin do anything how many damn times do we have to say it?!" Namjoon screamed.
The cop didn't listen. The members and Jin both screamed for eachother as he was pulled away.
"I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!" Jin cried to them. He didn't know what he did that was so wrong, but figured it had to have been something if this was where he ended up.
"We'll come get you! Don't worry hyung we're going to save you!" Jimin cried. He turned and started screaming at the cop who hadn't left yet. The cop threatened them, saying that if they didn't want to get arrested too, they needed to back off. The cop pulled Jungkook into a bedroom and immediately started shooting questions at him about what Jin did to him.
"He hasn't done shit to me!" Jungkook screamed in his hyungs defense. The cop claimed to have evidence that Jin was in fact abusing him. He said they had video, photo, and audio evidence. The cop looked at Jungkook's arms and saw faint bruising around his wrists, "He do that to you too, kiddo?"
Jungkook had no clue where the bruises came from but he knew damn well they weren't from Jin. "No! He doesn't hurt me! Why won't you listen?! I love my hyung and he loves me and protects me!" Jungkook balled his hands into fists and stomped his foot, "So give him back!"
"He'll have to go to court," the cop informed.
"Fuck you and your stupid court!" Jungkook screamed, "Give me Jin back! Whatever 'evidence' you have is bullshit, that's what it is!"
The cop ignored Jungkook's screaming and asked more questions, and Jungkook continued to defend his hyung with his life.
After questioning, the cop left the bedroom. Jungkook stayed there bawling his eyes out over everything that was happening. This isn't fair! Hyung doesn't deserve any of this!
The cop left and the members ran into the bedroom with their maknae. They all group hugged and cried together saying they'd do anything and everything they had to in order to prove Jin's innocence.
Jin was an absolute mess as he was thrown into a vacant jail cell. He was continuously begging to be let go, jail was no place for a guy like him. He swore on his life that he never had and never would harm Jungkook in any way a day in his life and that everything was a big misunderstanding. Nobody seemed to care to listen to his cries or pleas. He was trapped in a cold, dark cell, all alone with nothing but his anxiety and depression. He sat down in a corner and sobbed into his knees. I'd never hurt him. I'd never hurt him. I'd never hurt him.
Not even two days later, Jin had court. The members were sitting right up front waiting to prove their hyungs innocence. They didn't even know what the hell evidence the police had, but they did know Cho was behind it. They gathered a ton of their own evidence in support of Jin's incomprehensible love for their maknae.
When Jin was escorted in, Jungkook shot to his feet. "Hyungie!" he screamed, "It's okay hyungie we're here!"
Jin was in the same clothes he'd been arrested in and it made the members angry knowing he was most likely neglected or treated badly these past two days. They could tell Jin hadn't stopped crying since the moment he was taken. They could see how puffy and bloodshot his eyes were from across the room.
Jin went to wave to his members but got scolded for it. He had to sit far away from them.
The judge immediately called Cho to the witness stand and discussed his evidence. First the picture he had taken of Jin pinning Jungkook to the floor was put up on a screen. Then a video of Jin chasing Jungkook and smacking him.
But Namjoon wasn't an idiot, and knew the video had been edited. He recognized their outfits from that rehearsal and knew exactly what Jin and Jungkook were doing. He stood up, "Objection! He messed with that footage! Jin never hit Jungkook, he cropped out the end! Jin grabbed Jungkook and hugged him!"
The judge listened to Namjoon and called in a video analyst. Someone who was trained in determining if video and audio evidence was tampered with.
The court played the video again. The members stared at the video analyst with great anticipation. Jin couldn't even watch the video, he too knew that video ended in a hug but seeing it messed with broke his heart because it really looked like he was trying to hurt his maknae and he couldn't even imagine doing that.
"The video has been tampered with," the video analyst said.
The members clapped because they gave credit to Namjoon for pointing it out. Jin sighed with relief. Cho protested, saying it hadn't been, but the professional analyst did not lie.
The judge presented the last bit of evidence, which was audio evidence against Jin. "He admits to abusing Jungkook. It's all right there," Cho said. Jin and the members were confused because they knew nothing like that even existed.
The court played the tape and they heard Cho and Jin talking.
"I can't help but notice you tend to hurt him quite often. Isn't he just a kid?"
"Who, Jungkook-ah? Hurt him? I'd hurt him."
"So you're saying you intend to inflict pain or harm on him because he's the youngest and smaller than you?"
"That's what I'm saying, yes."
"That's child abuse, Jin. "
"Yeah...I abuse him. I hurt him. I'm aggressive with him."
The audio ended.
"I rest my case," Cho said. He looked at Jin and smiled. You'll be locked up for a long time after that one, Jinnie.
Jungkook shot up. "None of that is even true!"
Taehyung stood up too, "That's fuckin fake too! Are you kidding me?! Jin wouldn't say shit like that!" He pointed an accusing finger at Cho, "He did something to manipulate that audio!"
Jin's anger bubbled over and he angrily stood up as well, pointing at Cho. "I remember that conversation! You fucked with that audio and you know it! We both know damn well I said I wouldn't ever hurt him or hit him or anything. You're lying!"
The judge banged on his platform and screamed at everyone to sit down and be quiet. He asked for the video analysts insight.
"It was tampered with," they said.
The members cheered again.
Cho turned red with frustration saying everyone else was lying. At this point the judge was getting annoyed with Cho and asked him to go back to his seat.
Jungkook asked if he could go up and speak. Jin was not only surprised, but so incredibly grateful and proud of his maknae doing something so incredibly brave in order to save him.
My baby.
Jungkook was able to walk up to the witness stand. "Is my testimony not enough? Just because some asshole is claiming these things doesn't mean they're true! If Jin was so abusive why would we all be fighting so hard to prove he's not?! That wouldn't make sense! I love him! I love my Jin hyung! We all love him!"
Jungkook asked for his own counter-evidence to be displayed on the screen. The members had gathered many things in their hyungs defense and it was finally the maknae's turn to present it.
"Hyung makes me laugh and smile more than anything. Does any of this look like the face of a kid whose being abused by his big brother?"
Through tears, Jungkook went on and on about how great of a hyung Jin was. All the times he was there to protect him, guide him, take care of him in any possible way. One by one the members stood up and also testified about how great of a hyung Jin was to not only Jungkook, but to all of them as well.
Jin couldn't stop sobbing. Even though this was a shitty situation, his heart was overflowing with love for his dongsaengs and how much he appreciated all this effort.
To everyone's surprise, even the judge was in tears. He suddenly turned to the video analyst and asked if any of the photos or clips Jungkook was showing were tampered with.
"They have not been tampered with. These are, simply speaking, authentic interactions between both Jin and Jungkook," the video analyst said.
The members held their breath as the judge banged on his podium again. With a loud sigh, he declared Jin innocent and to be immediately set free. Jin shot up out of his seat and ran to his members.
"Oh my god, oh my god!" Jin cheered, "I love you! I love you guys so much! Oh my babies!" They all cried tears of relief and joy together.
Cho shot up and started screaming, claiming that the members were lying and that he'd seen the abuse with his own eyes.
Hobi turned to one of the cops that was standing in the room, "Can we charge Cho with false reports and tampering with evidence?"
Namjoon also made a quick connection between Cho and Jungkook's bruises and mentioned if the cops could investigate that as well.
The cop said yes, and threw Cho in handcuffs.
"Haha!" Yoongi screamed and laughed at Cho, "Karma is a bitch, you fucker. Don't mess with this family!"
Cho screamed and protested as he was dragged out of the courtroom. Now it was his turn to go to jail.
The members hugged for an extremely long time. Finally this was all over and their hyung was free. They were happy to leave the court with a happy ending, and Namjoon offered to pay for ice cream for everyone to celebrate.
In the car Jin went on and on about how much he loved them all and also talked about his few days in jail. He started joking about how they all better watch themselves, since he was a criminal now and all.
"Well if you're a criminal, I guess I'll have to beat you up!" Jungkook joked and playfully punched Jin. Jin lightly shoved Jungkook in the shoulder.
"And it begins," Taehyung laughed at the typical relationship between his hyung and maknae, the others joined in laughing too.
Jungkook pulled Jin into a tight hug, he never wanted to let go.
Jin felt the last bits of fear and anxiety wash out of him. He could feel his maknae's love radiating from within. Jungkook looked Jin in the face while smiling and told him,
"And I wouldn't change it for the world."
[The End]
