The Gypsy Princess: Family Tree and Explanation (Part 1)

Buckle in cuz this is about to be complicated!

Princess Primrose is descended from light just as her adversary is descended from darkness. Her direct ancestors continue from the path of light although some of her family may, unfortunately, follow the path of darkness.

To prevent confusion and make this family tree easier to decipher, we will only cover a certain number of generations before and after Rose and not all as the family tree gets a bit muddled at certain points.

First up is Primrose's great grandmother on her father's side, Queen Irene.

Queen Irene was known for being a spiritual woman with enormous power. Irene was born with white hair and an affinity for the strange and unusual. As a child, she showed great potential for magic and witchcraft, something that would help her in the years to come. Her parents died when she was still a kid due to a mysterious illness that swept through the land. With her as the only heir, Irene was put on the throne, making her the youngest ruler at eight years old. As years passed, her powers grew until she could enter portraits, see the future, communicate with the dead, create beautiful things out of nothing, and was a master at riddles. She never married but had a torrid affair with an unnamed soldier of fortune whom gave her a child. When her child was grown and married, she disappeared without a trace. It is said she went mad and walked herself up in her room, only to reveal herself to her namesake many years later.

Meanwhile, on her mother's side, we have King Roland the First.

Not much is known about King Roland the First aside from his friendship with his court sorcerer, Goodwyn the Great, very unlike his namesake's relationship to his own sorcerer.

Back to the paternal side: Irene had a daughter through her torrid affair named Marie.

Marie ended up marrying the emperor of a far away kingdom and the two ruled happily for many years and were very pleased when their little family grew and grew, spanning over many countries including Russia, China, and France.

King Roland and his unnamed queen also had a daughter, this one named Atla, a beautiful enchantress.

Atla eventually married King Kashekim Nedakh.

The king, young at the time, had discovered a secret weapon to make their family very successful. With it, they created a kingdom unlike the world had ever seen, a kingdom that years later, would disappear beneath the seas, never to be seen again and named a legend.

The Emperor and Empress Marie together had a son and 12 daughters. Their son, Roland the Second, was named after his grandfather.

Roland married his first wife and had a pair of twins: James and Amber.

While Roland was allowed to carry on his happy life with his wife and children, his sisters weren't so lucky. Some years into their marriage, the Emperor and Empress went their separate ways, she to France while he moved to England. Slowly, over time, the emperor began to go mad. He trapped his 12 daughters in one room every night with the door locked. However, they seemingly kept finding a way out because every morning they would be tired and their shoes would be worn as if they had been danced in all night long. He finally had enough and sent out a proclamation: any man brave enough had three nights to discover the secret of how his daughters got out at night could take his pick of them but if he failed, he would be executed come the fourth morning. Many brave kings, princes, and knights tried but failed. One day, sometime later, a knight named Alexander returned from war and tried his luck. With some help from a sorcereress and his own cleverness, he learned that the 12 princesses had a secret in the stones on their floor that when danced across just right would open a staircase to a pavilion that would lead to a magical world. He ended up picking Andromeda, the eldest, as his wife.

They ended up having 12 daughters of their own years later.

Some years later, just before the emperor died of old age, he married his second eldest daughter, Aubri, off.

She was married to his old friend, King William, over a trade agreement between their kingdoms.

They never conceived of children of their own before her untimely death.

The third eldest daughter, Jadis, never married and never had children of her own. She was well endowed with the power to control ice and snow and could freeze people and animals into stone.

More on her later.

The fourth daughter, Lilian, was married off around the same time as Aubri to another good friend of the emperor's.

Lilian married Harold, a former king that was cursed. Enter in the plot of the Frog Prince.

The fifth daughter, Narissa, married her best friend, a boy from the village. He died in the war. Sometime later, she began to dabble in the dark arts, a decision that would negatively influence her. More about that later.

The middle daughter, Elinor, moved to Scotland and married the chief of the four kingdoms, Fergus, whom she fell in love with.

Years later, when Andromeda was pregnant with her middle child, Elinor and Fergus had their only daughter, Merida.

Elinor's little sister, Ariana, was also endowed with magic but this would show in her own child more than her. At a young age, she, too, married an older man, Frederick.

When Andromeda was pregnant with her seventh daughter, Ariana had her daughter, Rapunzel Tremaine. More on that daughter later.

More to come...
