Hello (S)
TW: Tattoo Soulmates!AU
'Hello' doesn't give much detail, does it? We don't know anything about the person saying this. Are they happy? Upset? Are they greeting someone with a smile or with a smirk? Is it genuine or sarcastic? Is it mean or meaningful?
Who is it?
Lomadia has been asking herself this since she was told why she had a permanant tattoo of a greeting on her upper left arm.
Soulmates isn't new to the world, and has been around since time itself. One person is linked to another, and in some cases, multiple people are linked. The system is simple; the first sentence or word your soulmate says to you are tattooed on your body. Kids aren't told why they have this tattoo until their parents or teachers tell them. It's like puberty; it's there, but you don't understand it yet. Not until you're taught about it.
Lomadia, as a young girl, would display her tattoo, greeting everyone she met with a bright and cheery, 'Hello!'.
Then, after learning what it meant, she hid it and never spoke of it. She was always paranoid, listening carefully of how people greeted her for the first time and couldn't help notice that no one introduced themselves with a simple, 'hello'.
A young woman now, Lomadia grows past this time of her life. She has other things to focus on; Owl Island, for instance. So, she covered up the permanant ink, and continued on her life.
Ignoring the tattoo, Lomadia didn't think much when Lalna started talking about his new apprentice(and her secretly wondering the safety which this new apprentice will be in around the scientist). And when Lalna asked Lom to meet her, she complied.
The girl she met was shorter than she was, and seemed bouncy. She was a pretty girl, made more beautiful with the purple swirls decorating her skin. Immediately, Lomadia's heart skipped a beat.
Lalna introduced them. So far, the girl - Lalna had said her name was Nanosounds - hadn't said a word.
"Lomadia, this is Nanosounds. Nano, this is Lomadia," Lalna said, taking a step back to let the two girls greet each other.
"Hello!" Nano greeted. A chill went down Lomadia's spin at the familiar words. She said the first thing that popped into her head without thinking.
"Oh god," Lomadia murmured.
Nano seem to react in a similar manner, her eyes widening and her jaw dropping slightly. Then she started to giggle, her mouth forming a large smile. Lomadia had joined in soon after. She could feel her eyes heat up with unshed, happy tears, and let them fall. She could see Nano was close to that point, too.
Lalna just looked confused.
"What just happened?" He asked. Then, a second later, the pieces seemed to connect. Everyone knew that Soulmates meeting was an emotional time, and was easily recognizable. A smile crossed his own lips at seeing the two giggle together.
After the two girls calmed down, Lomadia showed Nano where her Soulmate tattoo is. Nano did the same. On her lower back, written in bold letter, were the words, 'Oh god'.
The two chatted and joked the entire day, telling about themselves, their childhood, asking questions to one another. Lalna had left soon after his realization, rolling his eyes at the love sickness, but smiling all the same.
By the end of the day, they had worn themselves out, and settled on easy conversation instead of long stories.
"It's so good to finally meet you," Nano said.
"Same," Lom agreed.
Nano reaches over and laces her fingers with Lom's. Lomadia's skin sparked with electricity everywhere Nano touched. She curled her own fingers around Nano's.
"This is gonna work," Lomadia murmured, not to anyone particular. Nano hummed in agreement, smiling at their laced fingers.
