Vacation (S)

TW: None, set during Moonquest (I think?)

They're only in the air about ten minutes when Xephos twitches so hard, Honeydew worries he's going to somehow knock himself out of the airship and into the ocean below. "Don't you think– is he going to be all right, d'you think? Did you leave him enough food? What if he has one of those wild parties and the place is in even more of state when we get back?"

Honeydew keeps his eyes forward, his hand resting low on the steering wheel. "Lalna, throwing wild parties?"

"That's what human boys do when they've got the house to themselves, I know I've heard that somewhere."

"And who is Lalna going to invite to his party, the villagers?" He shook his head and reached over to place his free hand on Xephos' knee. He felt the tension there and squeezed lightly. "Call him up on the communicator if you're so worried."

"And he'd be upset with me for being– concerned for him." Xephos huffed and looked out over the side of the ship, his face flushed bright blue. It was a good thing; Honeydew was fairly proud of the airship design, but he'd forgotten lights around the cabin. It wasn't the first time he'd found himself comfortably dependant on Xephos' lamplight eyes.

"Well, that's what happens when you're a foot taller than everyone, mum, you tend to hover."

Xephos' head swung around to glare narrow-eyed at Honeydew, but his anger dissolved as the ship passed up through the clouds and they came out the other side. This high up, the stars were brilliant, so plentiful it was breathtaking, almost hard to process. Honeydew hadn't lived underground for a long time, not since meeting Xephos really, but it was still unnerving to look up and see so muchabove his head.

For Xephos, though. His eyes brightened further, his mouth open around a soft exhale. He smiled slowly and all the tension in his shoulders seeped away as he looked upward. "Oh, lovely." He slumped sideways, draping over Honeydew with his long limbs, his cheek against Honeydew's hair.

"Feeling better?" Honeydew asked with a touch of smugness.

"Don't ruin it," Xephos chided, but remained where he was, stargazing and letting Honeydew steer them around where the air was cold and thin for a long while.
