Wolf 9
- DO KYUNGSOO -
I tried, for the rest of the day, to act normal. Like I didn't see Baekhyun's eyes turn from brown to red. Like he didn't almost devour me inside the school grounds. Like people are not talking about me behind my back. Like everything is how they're supposed to be.
But it's difficult. And most of the time, I just find myself staring into nothingness, seeing images of Baekhyun (or even Chanyeol) turning into the four-legged beast I just see on books.
I went to Math alone, even trembling and tripping on my own foot. My legs feel like jelly and my mind feels cloudy from all the things I realized just now. But what if I'm wrong? What if I'm just being paranoid? Or overreacting?
I shook my head, patting it with my right hand. "Stop it Kyungsoo." I hissed under my breath. "Stop thinking. Just stop." I gave out a sigh. Even my face feels hot and I don't think I'll be able to concentrate during my next class.
"Enjoying the attention?"
I turned and came face-to-face with one of Hanjeon's friends. I don't know his name. He has red hair and a nose too large for his face. Another guy, a black haired one, went to walk to my other side and I just fastened my paces, keeping my head low and pursing my lips.
"Hey!" the second guy called, pulling the strap of my bag.
"Let go!" I hissed, breaking free from his hold.
They both chuckled but he let go of my bag. "Woah." He whistles. "The guy's fighting back." He gave me a playful look and he suddenly looks like a maniac. I shivered.
"What do you want from me?" I hissed, glaring at the two of them.
He smirked. "Revenge? Since you killed our friend?" He looked at his friend for approval and the red-head nodded, staring at me from head to toe. I stepped back, shaking my head.
"I didn't kill him. I know you know that." I turned with a resigned sigh. Suddenly, they're beside me again, matching my pace. The black haired guy tried to put his arm around me but I brushed him off harshly.
He just grinned. Insulting.
"Look. Why don't you hang out with us, Do Kyungsoo?" The first guy smiled, looking at me. I shook my head and headed faster to my next class. I suddenly had the feeling they're going to touch me anywhere and I don't like that.
The red-head tried to touch my arm. "You won't regret it, I swear."
I stopped on my tracks and turned to both of them. "Stop it." I hissed, glaring. I suddenly felt a sudden rush of rage for these two assholes. What do they think of me? A slut?
The second guy crossed his arms over his chest. "We'll stop or what?" He smirked, watching me.
The conversation I had with Baekhyun replayed in my head.
I let out a shaky breath. "Stop or you're both dead."
It's about eight in the evening when I reached the foot of the mountain. I got off my bike and started walking towards the path. I pulled out the flashlight from my bag, hearing the sound of crickets and birds from the distance. It's really dark tonight and the breeze is cold and strong.
I started walking, the mud clinging to my shoes and to the wheels of my bike. It would again take time to clean those off. I am used to the forest being this quite, just the sound of nature and animals filling my ears. But part of me is waiting for that usual noise.
I looked around, squinting and trying to see through the walls of trees enveloping me. I admit I feel afraid, uncomfortable, when I hear that noise. But there's something more to that than fear. Somehow, I feel secure. Like someone is watching me. Someone is guarding my back.
Just when I'm about to take a curve along the path, someone grabbed me from behind, throwing me against a nearby trunk and knocking the air out of me. I groaned as pain struck through my body, sending me curling on the ground whimpering.
"We're dead, huh?" Someone breathed against my ear and I heard laughter from almost everywhere around me.
Those guys. They followed me up to here.
A hand grabbed my arm, pulling me up. "Look who's about to get killed." he grinned. My flashlight is on the ground but the moon is suddenly way brighter than a few minutes ago. I could make out their faces. These are the two guys from this morning. And they brought their friends.
I'm dead. I swear I'll be dead in a few minutes.
I squirmed and I was given a strong punch to the gut, sending gastric juice straight to my mouth. I whimpered and tried to talk but another strong blow to my face sent me to the ground again. I groaned and started crawling my way out of the path. I opened my mouth to breathe but my spit suddenly tastes like copper. Blood gushed out of my mouth, painting the muddy ground red.
"Go ahead!" One of them shouted, laughing. "Go ask your Grandma for some help!"
They all laughed out loud, their voices echoing through the forest. I reached a bush, grabbed and pulled myself up but someone kicked my arm away. It was followed by another fat kick to my chest and legs. They started throwing stones, I suppose, because something hard is hitting my body continuously.
I could feel them getting closer and my sight started to get blurry. Black and red spots block my vision and my arms feel like steel, it's difficult for me to raise them. I feel like I'm carrying a ton on my back and I could smell the rust from my own wounds. The throwing continues, some hitting me straight on the face. They would all howl with laughter.
I gasped for air. "S-stop..." My mouth tastes nothing but blood. I was grabbed by the collar of the shirt I'm wearing, pulling me so I could look straight to his face. When my eyes won't focus, the guy holding me slapped me hard on the cheek, I could feel his rough palm scraping along my skin.
"You're dying." He sneered. His breath smells of alcohol and smoke. "But before that, we'll get what we want from you first." He smirked and threw me to the ground with a loud thud. I tried to get up just as they started laughing and giving each other high fives.
I managed to get up on one arm but someone pulled my foot. "You're not going anywhere." he hissed. He grabbed my waist, turning me so I could lay flat on my back. "We could have done this the easy way, you know?"
I shook my head despite all the pain. "N-no..." I gasped. "S-stop..." I could feel the tears streaming down my face and I didn't try to stop them. I would want to fight back but I know I'll be dead soon. Real soon.
I tried looked down at him. This unknown guy, who's about to kill me or worse, even take what they want. He started unbuckling his jeans.
"Stop!" he shouted. "Don't damage his face, assholes!"
He leaned so he could whisper something on my ear. "You're really pretty, Kyungsoo." he breathed and I tried to squirm away, disgusted.
I pushed him by the chest but my arms did little. "P-please..." I whimpered, blood dripping from the sides of my lips. "Please..." I begged and sobs started escaping my mouth and I can't stop them anymore. He started to crawl on top of me, his hand reaching for my jeans.
"Sshhh..." he whispered. "Don't make any noise, my dear."
I looked up and away from his face. The moon is so full and the stars decorated the sky in the most beautiful way possible. If I'll die tonight, I want this scene to be the last thing I'll see. I don't want my killer's face imprinted on my mind. That wouldn't be worth it.
I closed my eyes just as he started kissing the side of my neck.
And that's when we all heard a loud growl from deep in the forest. We all paused, looking around in fear and surprise. I tried turning my head this way and that but I can't see anything clear considering my present state.
"What was that?" someone asked.
The guy over me leaned back to a sitting position. "What the hell?" he hissed as he stood up, brushing dust from his pants. I was currently forgotten for a minute as they roamed around the clearing, trying to spot what animal is causing that creepy sound.
I slowly pulled myself up, resting my back against a tree.
Another growl came. Closer. I shivered and some of them started walking fast out of the place.
"Where are you going?!" the red-head from this morning shouted. "Come back here you---" but he was cut off as someone from the forest jumped over a bush, grabbing him by the neck and twisting his head against his arm. I heard the crack of his bone under the man's arm and it's so sharp and distinct, I knew he's dead.
I curled up against the tree in fear.
Then the guy turned to look at me, his red-eyes flashing with rage and urge to kill. And then it turned to worry. Even pain.
Kim Jongin.
My own eyes went wide with shock and it's all my body could contain. I can already feel the consciousness seeping out of me and I tried to fight it back. The other guys started running, some started advancing towards Jongin.
Just when I'm about to point out a guy, grabbing a large stone from the ground, Kim Jongin turned away. He leaned, his body suddenly shaking uncontrollably.
And right before my very eyes, he turned into that four-legged beast I will never forget.
